Abraham Washington Released From WWE

Abraham Washington has been released from WWE. Below is the official statement posted on dot com:

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar A.W. as of today, August 10, 2012. WWE wishes A.W. the best in all his future endeavors.

Washington had a tremendous amont of backstage heat last week after while wearing a live mic at ringside he said during a match on the July 30th episode of WWE Raw that Titus O’Neil was “more unstoppable than Kobe Bryant in a Colorado hotel.”  The dated joke, which referenced  sexual assault allegations brought against Bryant in the summer of 2003, prompted an immediate apology by WWE via Michael Cole.  Washington later issued his own apology for the joke but it didn’t stop the mainstream media from picking up on it.

We reported Vince McMahon was livid over the joke last week and was very close to firing him but later talked out of it by someone in his inner circle.  The thinking was releasing him would only cause more mainstream media attention as it had died down almost as quickly as it got started.  It appears as if WWE gave it a week to cool off then decided to go ahead and make the release.  While there were several high up on the AW gimmick, McMahon ultimately wanted him gone for the irresponsible remark on live television.

It appears AW decided to rib his Twitter followers by apparently endorsing Linda McMahon for Senate with the hashtag “#VoteOrDie4Linda.”  Since the news of his release has been made public, Washington has been on a Twitter barrage with comments on his release.

  • ekkz

just for saying "your momma" ? no comments

  • Truckerbob3007

Who cares…i NEVER understood how this guy was employed anyway…adios…but..makes you wonder what he did….

  • Lenny

Vincent K Macmahon is like Kobe Bryant peeing on a girl in a hotel room in Colorado! HES RUTHLESS!!!

    • Cheech

…..I don't think you read the news. You seem to have mixed up Kobe Bryant and R. Kelly.

      • reesecup

thats because he probably cant read or spell for that matter. Your joke is tasteless.

  • joe

    no loss.

  • Daniel

    Ouch, should've watched his comments

  • Wwefan4ever

    Wow that’s shocking

  • stoney

Is this because of his Kobe Bryant comment?

  • Patrick Peralta

I never was a fan of AW…but still I guess Vince doesn't care that AW made a mistake…everyone makes them that is nothing to get fired over at least in my opinion. AW did apologize…

  • DavidM

Did the PTP really need him anyway? lol

  • RobUK

Orton fails wellness (again) – straight back to main event level when sudpension ends.
AW makes a rash joke – all be it lude – and he’s fired.
Once again WWE show there fairness.

    • Luke

      Amen dude

      • Nostaljack

Yep. Totally ridiculous. He's hung in there for a long time and to get fired over *ridiculous* statements that no one should be concerned about it just sad.

    • Wwe4L76

      True!

    • Daniel Lim'ass

Typical WWE's double standard. So lame WWE, so lame.

    • Alex P

Not only is it rash…it's really dated…I mean I could understand if the whole Kobe thing was recent, but we are talking about something that happened almost 10 years ago…I mean it was inappropriate but I didn't think it warranted a release

    • Dimitri

The racism in WWE… It will never end.

      • PikaPal4ever

not racism, it's because orton is a top star in wwe and mcmahon doesn't care either way about A.W.
He would of fired him no matter what race he was. It was because he was a bottom card scrub.

  • mr shwo

    completely pathetic on wwe's part

  • Logan_Walker

I’m glad he’s released. What kind of moron decided to name him A.W? His name was Abraham Washington!

    • Mr Snaps

You're not the brightest bulb, eh?

  • Guest

Well, Maybe Booker T can be both GM and Manage O'Neil and Young.

  • Mohammad Abulawi

big show said the same thing 2003 rap battle vs cena and yet he still hired and im a huge fan of punk but he told a fan to kill himself yet he is you wwe champion, Triple H simulated mock s** with a mannequin in a casket, yet he is going own the company someday, McMahon is a hypocrite! It’s cool for him to mock JR’s Bells Palsy, & you aren’t cut any slack for one joke? #BeAStarVince… shame on you wwe Vince can kick the leg out from under a one legged kid, wrestle women, mock The mentally retarded and he fired you

    • PikaPal4ever

other than the jr part, i doon't mind any of that happening, but i agree A.W got fired for much less than what these guys did.

  • ghopkins13

I think if it would’ve been a house show things would be different.

    • Andy

really ?! finlay got fired for allowing the miz to interrupt the national anthem at a house show

  • Wwe4L76

To bad Vinc is old and dont have balls anymore. Cant get any critizism anymore (because of Lindas political campagne).

  • Daarko

It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan or not, because the symbolism in this the important thing. So ridiculous. Yes, dated joke. Yes, not PG. Yes, a bit negative PR. But once and you’re gone? It’s not fair. Simple as that. Doesn’t Randy Orton bring negative PR with his 934 wellness violations?

  • Thumpa

Shame, there goes PTP’s heat! WWE really is run by a child, pathetic.

  • Marc

AW is more irritating than Michael Cole!

  • Steven

Just look at it WWE’s business way. What’s worse a lawsuit from Kobe Bryant for defamation of character or releasing A.W. for the comment that started it all. If your gonna be in public on a live show then you should be careful about what you say on a live show.

    • PikaPal4ever

maybe i'm stupid, but i don't see how kobe bryant could sue if A.W was telling the truth. Defamation of character is when you spread lies about someone to make them look bad. A.W made him look bad,
      but he wasn't lying.

  • http://WNW Y2J2012

    F**K you AW

  • bob k

I DON'T CARE FOR THE AW CHARACTER, BUT WHAT HE SAID WASN'T TOTALLY UNTRUE.

  • ROB K

I DON'T CARE FOR THE AW CHARACTER, BUT WHAT HE SAID WASN'T TOTALLY UNTRUE. EVERYONE KNOWS KOBE OFF TO HAVE THE CASE CLOSED.

  • jeremiah

Absolutely pathetic on Vince's part! I've about had it with this "new" Vince. I think I'm about done with WWE anyway, and it's time to watch TNA and give Vince some competition again. Vince seems to have forgotten what has gottem him so far.

  • BlazeKing

The joke just mentioned sex with Kobe. It really didn’t specify rape at all. A person can be “unstoppable under the sheets”, if you know what I mean… hehe. Maybe Kobe had tons of consensual activity in that hotel. That’s more of where the joke was. It was a cultural misunderstanding of the usage of the word “unstoppable”. Plus he used the state they were in for “cheap heat”.

  • Kurt

Just saying’… Is someone really fired when they are fired? After all, Brian Danielson was “fired” for the choking incident, and eventually came back to get a belt and a nice place on the roster.

  • Kevin

I had a feeling this would happen. I'm surprised he wasn't ordered off stage immediately. When I read the statement that Vince wanted to fire someone but was talked out of it, I figured it was A.W. I'm shocked it took them this long.

  • BEY

What Aw said wasn't really important. Compare to what Vince has said to many people and Randy Wellness violation where did it go, well noway as usual
