Ashley/WWE, Elijah Burke, Title Changes On TV, Belts

Written by Richard Gray on Jul 3, 2008 - 11:03:16 AM

About Ashley's MySpace blog: Does it mean that she is still under contract & she will return after the problem is straightened out?

From what I understand Ashley has put in a request to be released from her WWE contract. Once it is processed her agreement will be terminated and she will no longer be under an independent contractor deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. Whether or not she will be rehired by WWE when her problems are worked out remain to be seen.

What is up with Elijah Burke's new gimmick? It seems like he is going to be using his "Black Pope" gimmick which has been hinted at throughout his latest Elijah Experience blog entries. Do you know anything else about it or when it is going to be debuted? I've seen pictures of it but seeing it on TV will make a huge difference!

There's nothing really "up" with it as they have repackaged him in hopes of getting him over on ECW. All the of the dark matches and stuff that he has done with the gimmick have been used to give the gimmick a trial run before putting it on television. I still maintain that Elijah has a bright future in WWE but he is just a "work in progress". So many people expect these guys to automatically get over and become huge superstars but that's not the case in any profession. It even took guys like Steve Austin and The Rock a considerable amount of time to get over and become the Hall of Fame superstars that they became.

I've been seeing negative comments online about C.M. Punk cashing in to win the World Heavyweight Title on RAW. Not so much directed at Punk getting the belt, but more at the fact that it happened on RAW as opposed to a PPV. I, personally, was ecstatic to see a Title change hands on a televised show! With a quick check of WWE's Title History website (and it was a quick check, so I may be off a little), since Sept. 2002, the Heavyweight Title has changed hands 5 times on TV, and the WWE Title only 2 times! I understand that a Title win on a PPV is considered more prestigious, but they basically have it to the point where a Title match on TV means nothing but to further a storyline. I'd love to see more Titles change hands on TV... it would make things more interesting, and I'd think it would help ratings. Any thoughts?

I think that it is good to change a title every now and then on TV, however, I do not think that it should be abused. I would have preferred for WWE to do the angle with CM Punk cashing in at the end of Raw because with it being done early in the show, it made it look like WWE lacks confidence in Punk. All of this should make sense by the time we make it to The Great American Bash. Nonetheless I think that both the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship should be held by superstars that are going to have long reigns as short pointless reigns do nothing but devalue titles.

I have always been interested in the title belts in WWE. Can you give us more details about them?

WWE has two title belts for every title. One of the belts the reigning champion travels with for promotional purposes and house shows. There are another set of belts that are kept at TVs that are only used on-camera - these are known as the HD belts and are the ones that you also see on pay-per-view.
