Bret Hart Selfish?, Colin In WWE, ECW Ratings, More

Written by Richard Gray on Jul 21, 2008 - 2:41:43 PM

Don't you think that the Montreal Screw Job was necessary? I do. To me it was ridiculous and selfish of Bret to think that he could just walk away from the biggest company in the industry and go to the competitor having been undefeated. It was a necessary evil for Vince, Shawn, and Earl. All did their part to preserve their company's integrity and in my opinion, neither of which should feel ashamed of what happened.

I agree from a business perspective that the move made sense because WCW was closing in on putting Vince McMahon and WWE out of business. However, I do not agree with how Vince McMahon handled the situation at all. Bret Hart never wanted to leave WWE but had to do what was best for he and his family. I'm not sure how that it could have been worked out but to humiliate a guy like Bret Hart in front of his Canadian fans in a pay-per-view main event is despicable. Bret Hart did great things for the wrestling industry and he deserved more respect than what he was given. Like I said from a business perspective, Bret could not walk away champion, however, I do not agree at all with how it happened.

I was wondering, what the point was of bringing Colin Delaney to WWE? Does Vince have any plans for him or will he continue to job on ECW?

Colin was originally scheduled to do a one-night job but he got over so much that he earned himself a superstar's contract. I think that he has a future in ECW especially with this new program with Tommy Dreamer. I think that Colin is a great example that hard work pays off. He is actually a very good wrestler and I could see him picking up wins against smaller opponents. I do not think that he will ever be a World Title contender but he could have a good career in WWE if he continues to work hard.

First and for most, great site - it's kind of like the WWE of wrestling sites. My question though, do you think that the reason or main reason that ECW has seen a ratings spike, may have something to do with Evan Boure/Matt Sydal? The ratings have been 1.4 the past three weeks, something ECW hasn't done since the week prior to WrestleMania and didn't start to rise until after he had been there a few weeks. Even with the draft the shake ups were still sort of balanced, the only thing that really changed was "Evan OMG he is insane Bourne" And if you do think he is the reason, do you think that Vince may take the hint, that size doesn't matter? Please give me your thoughts.

Thank you for the tremendous compliment! I think that some of the new names on ECW have helped the show but it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up. Remember last week's show featured the Hardy Boys so of course that is going to garner a larger audience than normal run of the mill programming. So far the draft has helped ECW but we'll see if it keeps up in the coming weeks. As for Vince taking the hint that size doesn't matter, I think that he has already realized that if you look at CM Punk as the World Heavyweight Champion.

Would it not be a great idea for WWE to split up its programming to appeal to different audiences? One "Wrestling" Show for the diehard fans, with faced paced intense wrestling and less focus on the "Entertainment". And another show with more of an Entertainment value that appeals to the masses.

In my opinion WWE already does this with the different storylines and content featured on all three programs. I do not think that an "all wrestling" show for diehards would work because there are going to be diehard wrestling fans that are never going to associate WWE with pure wrestling. Furthermore WWE has to make sure that they appease the masses and I think that it is understood that all three shows have fan bases comprised of different types of fans.
