Calling Spots, Styles As Champ, ROH In WWE, Vickie's Heat
Written by Richard Gray on Jun 10, 2008 - 10:13:25 AM
Do wrestlers plan all of the moves they are going to do in a match or do they plan certain spots and wrestle by themselves? And do they have any communication techniques that they do to try and know what moves to do?
A lot of spots used to be called directly in the ring with the heel giving out the commands. With today's WWE product in High Definition the workers have been instructed to not call their spots in the ring and keep it quiet as much as possible. Most of the time the workers in the match will go over the match beforehand and sometimes only the big spots are planned out and the rest are done based on feel. There are certain communication techniques that wrestlers use without making it obvious but you would be surprised how impromptu a lot of spots can be at certain times.
With the recent push that A.J. Styles has received do you see him getting a run at the TNA World Heavyweight Title or X Division title any time soon?
Remember A.J. Styles held TNA's World Title back when it was still the NWA World Heavyweight Championship as he had three reigns from 2003 to 2005. With that being said, yes, I could definitely see Styles getting another run as TNA's top guy. Even though it was not clean, Kurt Angle putting him over on pay-per-view was in my eyes a big step for the career of A.J. Styles. That outcome absolutely had to happen if A.J. were to be perceived as the real deal in TNA Wrestling. As far as the X Division title goes, I think that he would be more of a World Champion candidate at this point based on his current main event status in the company.
Which two Ring of Honor wrestlers will end up in the WWE? I think Chris Hero and Nigel McGuinness because they both have the size and athleticism to make it big.
That is an interesting question but I'm sure that Bryan Danielson working a dark match for WWE last night will certainly raise some eyebrows. The last Ring of Honor wrestler to go to WWE, Matt Sydal, made it up to the main WWE roster and he doesn't have great size so I do not believe that is essential. I don't know about Chris Hero but I'm actually quite surprised that WWE has not courted Nigel McGuinness. William Regal said in a recent interview that he has tried to get WWE officials to take a look. I agree with you in that Nigel would be a perfect fit in WWE because of his size and athleticism.
Why is it that Vickie Guerrero is gaining so much more heat than any other past GM's? People like Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman were making equally unpopular decisions to gain heat and were arguably more charismatic than her, what is it about her in particular that generates such a reaction?
Like it or not, I think that we have to give the tremendous heat reactions to the job that has been done by the WWE creative team. The Undertaker is one of the most loved superstars in WWE history and with Edge t also comes from fans thinking "what would Eddie think?" Unforbeing one of the top heels in the company it has been genius aligning Vickie with Edge to screw the beloved Undertaker. As unpopular of decisions that Bischoff and Heyman made in their tenures, they were not able to screw over Undertaker while at same time being "in bed" with the enemy. I think a lot heatunately I never met Eddie but I would like to think that if he saw this, he would be very proud of Vickie. She is a real natural and probably the most hated person in WWE right now from a storyline perspective.
