Choosing TNA, Factions, DVRs, PPV Changes, More

Written by Richard Gray on May 28, 2009 - 1:40:00 PM

Do you think that most of the former WWE workers that go to TNA rather than re-sign are doing it because they can negotiate a lighter schedule?

Yes this is actually one of the main reasons WWE workers go to TNA. They are able to keep their name out there, work a lighter schedule and still collect a pay check. This is why Sting has never gone to WWE. He doesn't want to be on the road all the time and Vince McMahon won't hire someone that is only going to work a limited scheduled.

I understand that one of the main initiatives in the WWE is to build new stars. Do you ever see WWE ever using the DX stable in order to build new superstars as they are currently doing with Tyson Kidd and D.H. Smith with the Hart Foundation/Dynasty and Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase with the Legacy? Would HHH and HBK be willing to use their famous DX gimmick as a way to groom one or a few new superstars?

Anything is possible but I don't see that happening. The pairing of Tyson Kidd and DH Smith is a nostalgic way to get them over and is an excellent idea. Legacy is a fresh new stable which is also being utilized in the appropriate way. WWE has kept the DX gimmick alive since bringing it back in 2006 as something to use on special occasions to move extra merchandise. I don't see the company using the faction as a way to bring up younger workers. Then again, you can never say never in the wrestling business.

I was reading in one of the Ask WNW articles about Booking 101 and jobbing in hometowns, why exactly do they do this and why?

It's more of a running joke than anything else. There is no set policy saying that a worker must job in their hometown, it's just something the company routinely does. There are numerous examples where workers go over in their hometowns.

What's the effect DVR's have had on wrestling? Do they account for ratings if the shows are recorded?

DVR's have not hurt the business. The use of this type of equipment is factored into the rating but I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Why has WWE been changing some of their PPV names?

WWE changed the name of One Night Stand to Extreme Rules because of their new PG initiative. I heard The Great American Bash was changed to The Bash for more international appeal. As for WWE Unforgiven being changed to Breaking Point, there's talk of doing some type of submission gimmick in the show's main event.
