Edge/Vickie, Kaz A Main Eventer?, Evan Bourne, Ratings

Written by Richard Gray on Jun 12, 2008 - 10:47:21 AM

When is the Edge/Vickie Guerrero storyline going to end? It has been going for what seems eternity plus it is BORING.

You are certainly in the minority for thinking that it is boring as it happens to be one of the most over angles in the company. Vickie Guerrero is drawing bigger heel reactions than anyone in WWE has drawn in several years. With that being said, I do not see WWE doing away with the angle for quite some time. Not only has the angle made Vickie the most hated person in WWE, it has also increased the heel heat on Edge.

With Kaz having competed in 2 TNA World Title matches in the last month, my question is do you ever see Kaz winning the TNA World Heavyweight Title and getting that big main event push down the road?

I think that Kaz could be considered a legitimate TNA World Championship threat, however, I am not confident enough in TNA creative to say that I could see a main event push happening. For some reason, TNA likes to push Kaz and then bury him. They tend to be very inconsistent with some of their pushes. We'll see but for now Kaz is going to be focused on the TNA World X Cup.

My question is about Evan Bourne, we all saw him on ECW this week teaming with Kofi Kingston. I thought Evan looked like a very talented wrestler. So my question is who is Evan Bourne, I've never heard his name before, when and where did the WWE find this guy?

Evan Bourne is Matt Sydal and he is best known from his work with Ring of Honor although he has done some work in TNA and worked in MTV's Wrestling Society X. He has gained a name in America and Japan as he has wrestled for the Dragon Gate promotion in that country. Sydal signed a WWE developmental contract in late 2007 and was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling where he was the eventual Heavyweight Champion. Since WWE ended its affiliation with OVW, Sydal was transferred to Florida Championship Wrestling in Tampa, Florida and finally called up to the main WWE roster a couple of weeks ago. Sydal has a tremendous upside.

I know that the dark main events are not broadcast on television and do not fit storyline, but do you think if WWE showed them as part of the show the ratings would go up?

No, the ratings problem is much more than a particular match or particular superstar. The ratings problem, as I noted yesterday, stems from a lack of interesting storylines and angles. WWE has to come up with ways to make people want to watch their programming. I'm not talking about diehard wrestling fans like you or me but casual wrestling fans that are looking to be entertained. There is not one match or one superstar that is going to be able to save the company's ratings it is a much bigger problem than that.
