Mayweather Returning?, Attitude Era Creative, Announcers
Written by Richard Gray on Jun 13, 2008 - 3:42:33 PM
With Floyd Mayweather retiring from boxing his last in ring action would be WrestleMania, do you think WWE will reach out to sign him in some capacity?
I think that the door will always be open for Floyd Mayweather to return to WWE if he chooses to do so. The way the company wrote his storyline at WrestleMania, he left with a tremendous amount of heel heat which would be great to capitalize on again at SummerSlam. Whether or not it will actually happen is anyone's guess at this point.
I love all the great content on the site Richard. I was just thinking, you've been saying that one of the reasons for decline in ratings is the lack of good storylines. So I was wondering who was in the creative team during the attitude era when they had arguably the best storylines ever and would it be viable to bring any of them back?
Two of the most popular creative team writers for WWE back in the Attitude Era were Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara. Russo now writes the majority of the storylines for TNA Wrestling while I'm not sure what Ferrara is up too. When WCW was about to fold, they brought in Russo and Ferrara because they saw the success that WWE was having and felt that the creative duo could rejuvenate the company. Things went from bad to worse. The people that I know that work for WWE creative feel that Russo has genius tendencies but he needs someone like Vince McMahon watching over him. Whether or not that would work in today's day and age is unknown although if you have seen what is going on in TNA, Russo does not appear to be the answer.
I love to listen to great announcers, I think a great announcer can really sell a match the way it is intended to be sold. My favorite announcer is good old JR, I love his work. I personally think Mike Tenay and Don West are horrible and they bring down the TNA matches. Could you please give me a couple of your favorite and least favorite announcers?
I don't have a problem with Mike Tenay but I'm not a huge Don West fan. My favorite play by play man is Jim Ross while I am also high up on Joey Styles and Dave Prazak from Ring of Honor. I'm not an Adamle fan and I think that Jonathan Coachman has a lot to be desired. Michael Cole and Mick Foley seem to be working well together and I was a tremendous fan of Cole/JBL at the end of their run. Tazz is a great color commentator and Jerry Lawler is arguably the best ever.
