I've been sitting here lately, thinking of something that may be in the cards for Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, and the Money in the Bank situation. It's been widely accepted that Jeff was originally slated to win MITB, which may or may not be true, but has been reported many times, before and even since the match happened. My question is what are the chances that they let Punk win the MITB for the time being, to test him out with the crowd reaction for a possible run later on, just to pass it back to Jeff once he's back from his suspension? Just a little something I’ve been pondering lately.
From what I understand Jeff Hardy will not return to the WWE Championship picture when he does come back to WWE. Despite a lot of people feeling bad for Jeff with his most recent tragedy, there are still several people that remain disappointed in him for his second Wellness violation. WWE currently has him booked in a mid-card feud upon his return. I’ll have more on Hardy in today’s Premium News Update.
Hey Richard, great job on the site. My question is will WWE ever try to help ECW become a better brand? I know your opinion on ECW but when they used to have people such as Big Show and RVD, they scored higher ratings. Could we ever see ECW being considered more of an actual brand and not so much a place for mid-carders to build up main event potential?
Thanks for the kind words! I think WWE is already helping out the ECW brand with the SmackDown talent exchange. Making Kane the brand’s champion also adds some credibility in that you have a legitimate veteran worker than can help the younger superstars. As for ECW being a distinct brand in WWE, I do not believe that will ever be the case. They will remain as a second leg for SmackDown for the foreseeable future. Removing Joey Styles from the mix really hurts the brand.
I think that WWE has made a terrible mistake in making Mike Adamle the new ECW play-by-play man. I have seen him make on-air mistakes such as stuttering multiple times. Besides Joey Styles was a key component in every single ECW broadcast that I have watched. His voice, his enthusiasm, and his passion for commentating make him who he is. You have said that WWECW will not be like the original ECW, but getting rid of Joey Styles makes it seem that WWE is really trying to kill ECW. Where will Joey Styles go and what will ECW be like from now on?
There has to be more to WWE removing Joey Styles from the ECW announce team. It was announced on last night’s show that he will now work as a part of WWE.com. Styles has a lot of Internet experience as he used to be part-owner of the 1Wrestling website before he returned as a play-by-play man to WWE. I agree with you that WWE has made a terrible mistake.
After seeing Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the WWE championship on the house card show for June 20th in Mexico, does that mean Orton will retain at Backlash?
Not necessarily. The house show lineups are done far in advance and are usually changed several times. I have not heard anything as of yet on what direction WWE plans to take with the Fatal Four Way match at Backlash. I have a hard time believing that they would do a title change in that type of match but anything is possible.
