HBK/IC Title, TNA Tribute, Lance Cade, PPV Replays

Written by Richard Gray on Jun 17, 2008 - 10:32:37 AM

First, Richard, let me say that I am a big fan of the site. This site has quickly become my #1 source for wrestling news online. My question concerns the IC Title and the problem with it as I see it. Being that I watched wrestling in its glory day, I am upset about how the WWE is using the IC Title on Raw. Back in the good 'ol days of the WWE(F), the IC Title was a major title held by the main eventers. The IC Title served as a stepping stone to the WWF Championship and almost seemed like a necessary transition for a champion. The IC Title was once the object of some of the best matches I can remember (Macho Man V. Ricky Steamboat, HBK V. Razor Ladder Matches, anyone?) I think that Michaels is in the twilight of his career and does not need another Heavyweight Title Run. However, I think this feud with him and Jericho needs to culminate with HBK getting the IC Title. It could make for some great feuds to renew interest in the IC Belt & also add some much needed prestige to the championship.

Thank you for the wonderful compliment, it is greatly appreciated. I agree that in today's day and age, the Intercontinental Championship belt has turned into an afterthought; once a stepping stone for a superstar, the IC belt has turned into nothing more than a prop that is held by upper level mid-card workers. I think one of the reasons for this is because that WWE has two World Championships as well as the ECW Championship. Factor in the United States Championship belt and you have a ton of championships. I think that it would be refreshing for Shawn Michaels to get a run as IC Champ and like you said - maybe restore the belt's image but I haven't heard anything either way. It's really frustrating how WWE utilizes their titles with them rarely being defended and with Champions getting beat clean in non-title matches.

During TNA last Thursday I noticed that every wrestler as well as the referees and commentators had an armband with an "A" on it. Was it a tribute to someone and to who was it a tribute to?

The armbands were a tribute to Kevin Sinex, the crew worker that was killed after the Slammiversary pay-per-view. Sinex was helping take down the set when some scaffolding collapsed and he fell to his death. Another crew worker lost his thumb in the accident. Sinex worked for an independently contracted stage lighting company called Christie Lights out of Orlando, Florida - they made the trip with TNA to help setup the event. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Sinex.

I like how Raw ended with Cade coming down, but do you have any idea what this means? It just seemed odd that Cade would come down and attack Triple H. Unless it's the beginning of a little friendship with Y2J, in order to start a feud with his trainer Shawn Michaels. What do you think?

I didn't like how Raw ended. I thought it was a very questionable call to have Lance Cade - who has been nothing more than a lower level mid-card worker - come out and help Chris Jericho lay out two of the company's top guys. Obviously it is the beginning of a monster push for Cade as a singles worker but I could think of thousands of different ways to bring him in rather than have him lay out Hunter and Cena. Nonetheless it looks like WWE has big plans for Cade although I am not completely sure as to what they mean.

Hi Richard! Kind of a weird question, but what do you think of WWE PPV replays? I mean, they hype them all up, while at the same time giving away the results. I can see them trying to hype up the replay to make money, but why basically give away the results, especially to the people who are trying to avoid Raw in order to not find out the results who missed it live?

The replays are sold so that people that want to see how things happened and didn't see the show live can get a chance to watch it. WWE isn't worried about spoiling the show's results as they are going to become obvious on Raw based on storyline advancement. I understand what you are saying about people trying to avoid Raw but that is not the majority. The majority of replays are sold to people that actually watch Raw, ECW, or SmackDown and order the show because they are intrigued with how it happened. DVRs and other tools can be used to prevent getting spoiled.
