HHH's Character, Main Event Mafia, Non-Compete, More
Written by Richard Gray on Aug 19, 2009 - 1:45:12 PM
You said in yesterdays question to Ask WNW that John Cena's character has gotten stale. While I agree with that statement, I also believe that Triple H's character has grown a bit stale. I guess that is partly why he has gone back to the DX angle?
WWE is bringing back the Degeneration X gimmick to promote it on their upcoming November tour of the United Kingdom to spike merchandise sales as well as give Legacy very over opponents to work with at SummerSlam. I agree Hunter's gimmick needs a makeover as Eric Bischoff said a couple of months ago, it has become outdated. As for why WWE hasn't altered it is the same reason they haven't touched John Cena. Triple H moves merchandise and remains over with the fans. This is the main reason they are bringing back DX, it is very profitable for the company.
What are your thoughts on the Main Event Mafia now that Hard Justice is over? They control all of the male championships (and let's face it, soon the Knockouts title as well) where do you think they could possibly go with this storyline that would be remotely interesting?
I was intrigued with the formation of the Main Event Mafia when it was first started but now feel it has run its course. The problem with company-wide factions is that they dominate so much television time they grow stale very fast. The NWO dominated WCW TV and eventually divided the locker room because if you weren't in the faction, you weren't getting on TV. I could not imagine how the younger TNA workers feel that are passed over time and time again for the workers that should be serving as mentors/agents and not champions.
In the real world when an employee is fired he is free to work for any other company he chooses. Why is it when a WWE employee gets fired, he has a 90 day non-compete clause. Is he still being paid by the WWE during those 90 days?
A non-compete agreement is actually a fairly common clause in a contract and is not restricted to professional wrestling. Many professional positions that require contracts include non-compete agreements. These types of agreements can also be included in the sale of a business such as a restaurant. I'm not sure if the 90-day non-compete agreement in a WWE performer's contract includes some type of severance pay or not. When the worker signs the contract they are aware of the clause and agree to it.
On house shows do the wrestlers have road agents in the back giving them a plan and winner for their matches?
Yes, the road agents or producers (as they are called in WWE) give the match decisions to the workers at WWE house shows. Everything is booked from creative, goes to the producers and is given to the wrestlers.
