HIAC, Screwjob Finish, Batista's Return, Jeff Hardy
Written by Richard Gray on Sep 15, 2009 - 10:54:21 AM
I love the Hell in a Cell matches, especially when used a couple times a year. I feel this way they had more to a feud. I tried to think of the pay-per-view idea with an open mind, and hoped it would be the two main event matches. But I already see Raw has made two Hell in a Cell matches already and I find myself thinking that the HIAC idea will get stale quickly. What is your opinion?
I recently stated here on the website I thought the best idea would be to keep the gimmicks in the two main event matches, as they did with WWE Breaking Point. I agree with you in that I was willing to give the concept a chance but it looks like they are going to overkill the Hell in a Cell gimmick. I'm not a fan of gimmick matches and think more than two Hell in a Cell matches is going to be too much. We'll see how it goes next month but it appears to be too much on paper.
Given the stipulations for matches at Breaking Point, many people had to expect that there wouldn't be a clean finish in the CM Punk/Undertaker match. Given what played out with the screwjob finish, do you see a program developing that would have Undertaker being cheated out of the WHC repeatedly by Punk or having the odds stacked against him to regain the title (much like the Edge feud last year)?
I haven't heard about the current plans for the World Heavyweight Championship other than the rumored SmackDown main event for Hell in a Cell with CM Punk defending against The Undertaker and Batista. I don't think they'll be another "screwjob finish" as the Breaking Point finish as inevitable given they were in Montreal and Vince McMahon gets a kick out of re-living certain situations.
Watching Batista's return tonight, I began to wonder, was Batista's return expedited by the departure of Jeff Hardy. Is this also the nature of his move to SmackDown?
Batista's move to SmackDown has to do 100% with the lack of main event talent on the brand. With the recent departure of Jeff Hardy as well as the suspension of Rey Mysterio, the brand needs more main event workers. As far as I know Batista's return was not pushed up as he was scheduled to see a doctor last week to gain full clearance. I reported exclusively on WrestlingNewsWorld.com Premium last week that Dave had began full workouts in the gym which indicated he was getting very close to an in-ring return.
Do you think Jeff Hardy will still get his realty show deal with his arrest over the weekend?
Apparently Jeff Hardy's reality show was picked up by FOX 21 prior to his drug arrest on Friday. I haven't heard if the deal would be affected but I imagine it will be. Hardy is in a heap of trouble and faces a lot of jail time if he is convicted on the very serious charges brought against him. I am all for giving a guy a second chance but Hardy has had one too many. There is no excuse for his most recent arrest and I'm finished with feeling sorry for him.
