Hogan/Bischoff, WWE Titles, Christian, WrestleMania

Written by Richard Gray on Mar 5, 2008 - 10:31:22 AM

Hey WNW, I’m a big fan. I visit the site, about 10-15 times a day. Not so long ago you posted on the site, that Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff were possible starting a new wrestling promotion. What is the latest news?

Thanks for the compliment! There was nothing to Hulk Hogan’s claims that he and Eric Bischoff were going to start their own wrestling promotion. Apparently Hogan was just trying to get the attention of Vince McMahon so that he would put him on WrestleMania. As of the time of this writing it does not look like the chances are good for Hogan to get a role in WrestleMania. As for Hogan’s project with Bischoff I heard that it was more of a reality television thing that they were going to do involving professional wrestling, but who knows if that will ever get off the ground.

A coworker of mine was telling me how great it is to have so many championships in the WWE, but I don't get it. Maybe I am alone on this, but I feel that there are so many titles that some are just forgotten about, or their status has depleted from what it once was. For example, the IC belt. I see little worth in that title anymore, where as once talent strove to get it to elevate them to the next level. It seems the only titles worth anything are the WWE and World Titles. How do you feel about the current situation?

I do think that there are too many titles in WWE. What a lot of people don’t understand is that when the Intercontinental Championship was used to elevate mid-card talent to main event status there was no ECW Championship like there is today. Now WWE has an entire brand dedicated on developing talent to put them on Raw or SmackDown. Let’s face it, ECW is a brand where talent is further developed, no one looks at it as the cream of the crop and there isn’t anyone that is going to say that it is superior to Raw or SmackDown. With that being said I think it is pointless to have both the US Title and Intercontinental Title when neither is defended on a regular basis. Also I do not see the point in having two sets of Tag Team titles when there are note a whole lot of tag teams out there. My recommendation would be to scrap the US Title and the World Tag Team Titles. Send all tag teams to SmackDown where they could compete for the WWE Tag Team Titles and let the US Title competitors work on the IC Title scene on Raw. I doubt that would ever happen, but I do think that there are too many titles.

Do you know if Christian Cage is planning to (or maybe it’s in the works already) write and publish his own biography?
Ryan and I had the opportunity to talk with Christian a couple of months ago in a media conference call. The question about an autobiography was brought up and I believe that he said that he plans on writing one later on down the road. If memory serves me correct, that is all that came out of it.

Hi Richard, I am a HUGE fan of the site and visit it many times a day. I think that WrestleMania 24 is shaping up to be the worst WrestleMania in a while. There are good matches like Undertaker vs. Edge, and Triple Threat for the WWE Title, but the rest doesn't seem great. I mean Finlay vs. JBL, that’s like a high mid-card match on SmackDown! or Raw. I am hoping WWE makes the Finlay vs. JBL fight a Hardcore match or something because that will help the WM match card get up to par. So my question is do you think WM 24 will be good?

Thanks for the compliment; I’m glad that you enjoy the site! I actually think the WrestleMania card is rather strong again this year. I agree that a JBL vs. Finlay match is questionable for the biggest show of the year but with JBL’s friendship with Vince McMahon there was no way that they weren’t going to give him his own singles match where he can stand out. They are going to push JBL as a major player whether you and I like it or not. In all fairness I believe that JBL and Finlay can have a good match, but I do feel that there are other people on the roster that could put on a better match. However, I think that the card has three very strong matches. The triple threat match for the WWE Championship, Edge vs. Undertaker, and the MITB ladder match should all be outstanding. Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels has potential to be outstanding. The only real weak part of the card is the BunnyMania match with the divas but hopefully they’ll keep it short. Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show will be entertaining if they do something like they did at No Way Out. All and all I do not think that this is the best WrestleMania card that I’ve ever seen, however, it does look like it will be a strong pay-per-view.
