How come guys like Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Randy Orton have so much political influence backstage?
There are several reasons. First of all Triple H is married to Stephanie McMahon who is head of WWE creative. Vince McMahon looks at Hunter like a son and values his input. Even before Triple H was with Stephanie, he and Shawn Michaels were known for their ability to politic Vince McMahon to get favorable rubs. Another reason why these particular workers have so much influence is because they are main event level talents and they draw for the company. People that draw (and make WWE money) are going to have more input on how to enhance their characters to help the company.
Do you feel WWE NXT is a good idea to showcase development wrestlers on TV?
I am optimistic about the new show. When WWE first made ECW a vehicle to put developmental workers on television it started to gain momentum (remember when Evan Bourne tore the house down for months?). Hopefully the new show will allow them to go back to that model. With the success of reality TV I would like to see WWE capitalize on how a worker pays their dues, makes it to NXT before going to Raw or Smackdown. That would be much more entertaining than Vince McMahon's version of ECW.
What does WWE have planned for John Cena now that he has sustained a back injury?
John Cena's back has been bothering him for weeks and WWE faces the possibility of him needing surgery after Wrestlemania. A lot of people are banged up right now but no one wants to miss Wrestlemania. So for now Cena will continue in the main event picture on Raw until after the big pay-per-view next month.
Do you think Jeff Hardy shot himself in the foot when he appeared on TNA, essentially cutting off all future ties to WWE?
Sources within WWE told me the night that Jeff Hardy showed on TNA television that was it for his WWE career. Obviously Hardy burned a lot of bridges but things in this business have a way about coming full circle (Bret Hart is under WWE contract). Right now I think Jeff's focus needs to be on his trial on drug charges because he is facing multiple felony counts that could land him in prison for several years.
