Jeff Hardy's Contract, WWE PG & Ads, Contracts
Written by Richard Gray on Jul 30, 2009 - 11:27:22 AM
Does Jeff Hardy's World Heavyweight Championship win at Night of Champions mean he has signed a new contract?
As we reported on WrestlingNewsWorld.com Premium on Monday, Hardy reportedly agreed to a 30-day contract extension to stay with WWE through SummerSlam. WWE didn't want to lose Hardy going into one of their biggest pay-per-views of the year. Hardy agreeing to the extension caused many of the creative plans for the pay-per-view to be changed.
With WWE attracting big sponsors for SummerSlam such as Pepsi and 7-Eleven do you think this is a sign that the company's PG initiative is working in way?
There is no question with WWE gearing their programming to be more family friendly makes it more attractive to advertisers. This is one of the reasons why Vince McMahon has toned his programming down. Not only does the PG programming attract the profitable younger audience, it makes advertisers less hesitant about purchasing ads. Ad deals are hard to come by in this economy so with WWE securing deals with Pepsi and 7-Eleven shows there is a method to McMahon's madness.
Do you know who the highest paid superstar on the WWE roster is, and how much do independent jobbers get paid?
Top WWE workers such as John Cena, Triple H and The Undertaker make the most money because they have very high 6-figure downside guarantees as well as make a lot of money from merchandise sales. Remember a WWE performer's contract is structured with a downside guarantee (money guaranteed no matter what) plus bonuses. Bonuses include show payouts, merchandise cuts, pay-per-views, appearances and more. A WWE developmental deal is only going to have around a $25,000 downside which isn't a lot of money plus traveling expenses are not covered.
