Jewish Wrestlers, Taker Retiring?, 1st Ladder Match, More

Written by Richard Gray on Jan 10, 2008 - 2:21:09 PM

My son has a small homework project. He has to write a small essay for Temple about famous Jews. Since he’s a big wrestling fan, he chose famous wrestlers. I told my son of some Jewish wrestlers I knew from the recent past, like Dean Malenko, Goldberg, and Raven. My son just started following wrestling, so he doesn't know them. He's interested in current, active, wrestlers in WWE that are Jewish?

Unfortunately I do not know of any current WWE superstars that are Jewish. I am sure there are some but I do not know of any. However, I can give you a couple of more names so that you can help your son out. Former WWE personality Paul Heyman is Jewish, as well as A-Train (former WWE superstar), Brian Knobbs (from the Nasty Boys), Jerry Sags (from the Nasty Boys), and Marc Mero (former WWE superstar). Two active wrestlers that I know practice the Jewish faith include Kevin Steen from Ring of Honor and WWE developmental superstar Colt Cabana

Hello, I was concerned about Jim Ross’ recent blog when he said in his report "Nobody is irreplaceable, not even Undertaker." Then he said about how Taker's legacy will live on. I am concerned about the way these comments came across. Has Undertaker officially said anything about retirement?

No, the Undertaker has not said anything publicly regarding his retirement. You are not the only one that got concerned from JR’s comments; however, let me assure you not to read too much into them. JR is just trying to answer comments from his readers and is not confirming or denying anything. If the Undertaker does decide to retire, we will have that announcement on the site. As far as I know Undertaker does not intend to retire anytime in the immediate future.

I was just wondering, what was really the first Ladder match to take place in professional wrestling? I got many different answers from people and don't know what is the right one. And in this note, what was the first Ladder Match in WWE history?

I am only 23 years old so I am not going to begin to speculate when the first ladder match was in professional wrestling. The first ladder match in WWE was between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels and was for the WWE Intercontinental Championship in July 1992. Bret Hart won the match. Note from Richard: A lot of people have been emailing me saying that the first ladder match in WWE history was Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon at WrestleMania. That is incorrect. The match between Michaels vs. Ramon was the first WWE ladder match on pay-per-view. The question that I answered above was what was the first ladder match in WWE history? It occurred two years before the first ladder match on PPV. I hope that clears up the confusion!

With the Royal Rumble pay-per-view just around the corner, which year featured your favorite Royal Rumble match?

This is hard for me to write but my favorite Royal Rumble match was at Royal Rumble 2004 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where Chris Benoit was the first to enter the Rumble and won the match. Benoit went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship later that year at WrestleMania. Like I said, that’s almost too sad for me to even think about.
