Jim Ross, Wang Yang, Festus, ECW, Dinsmore

Written by Richard Gray on Jul 17, 2009 - 2:53:20 PM

Obviously Jim Ross is better than Michael Cole. Even though I enjoy SmackDown more than Raw most weeks, it's obvious that Raw is WWE's flagship show. I'm curious what the reasoning is behind Ross not being on Raw instead of Cole. Are there any up and coming play by play men in the world of wrestling that could be the Jim Ross of the future?

Jim Ross was moved to SmackDown during last year's WWE Draft because the company wanted their best announcer on the brand for the move to MyNetworkTV. I heard Vince McMahon was "over" Michael Cole on live broadcasts and there was a chance Jim Ross could be coming back to Raw. However, Jim Ross recently denied that rumor in a recent blog post on his official website. WWE has been searching for another JR for quite some time. A couple of years ago the company was close to bringing in Mike Goldberg who works for UFC, but they were unable to get a deal done. The infamous Mike Adamle was also believed to be a potential replacement for Ross one day but we all know how that played out. WWE continues to look for a play-by-play man with a job listing on their careers website at this link.

Do you know the whereabouts on Jimmy Wang Yang, Jesse and Festus?

Jimmy Wang Yang has worked various dark matches and house show matches in recent weeks but has not been used on television because there has been nothing for him. I'm not sure about Jesse as I do not believe he has worked anywhere in the past couple of weeks. Festus worked a match at the Florida Championship Wrestling house show earlier this week in Punta Gorda. You can read results from that show at this link.

What is your opinion of the new workers that have been called up to ECW over the past few weeks such as Sheamus, Tyler Reks, etc? How do you think they will do in WWE?

Unlike a lot of the fans, I like how WWE is utilizing ECW by calling the workers up from developmental. I'm high up on both Sheamus and Tyler Reks and look forward to watching them progress on WWE television. It's a little early to judge their futures in WWE because of how things change but I think both have tremendous upsides. Obviously some of the green workers have had some botches, but I think it's a good thing they are getting work on WWE television.

Why would a wrestler like Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore, who has decent wrestling skills, re-sign with WWE to play a mentally challenged person again? He should have signed with TNA to show off those skills.

I still haven't got 100% confirmation that Nick Dinsmore has re-signed as he never responded to a message I left for him. Furthermore, the people I spoke with are unsure if he is being brought back if he will be used as an on-air talent or as a trainer. Once I get confirmation, I'll post more about his status with the company. As for the mentally challenged gimmick, I agree Dinsmore deserves more and I heard he was unhappy with the gimmick during his first run in WWE.
