Kozlov, Kevin Fertig, Noble's Retirement, Overbooked, Edge
Written by Richard Gray on Nov 16, 2009 - 9:51:09 AM
This time last year the Moscow Mauler was undefeated on Smackdown and at one point gunning for the WWE Championship. His insurmountable athletic ability was a delight, however, now he seems nothing more than an average member of the lowest brand ECW. Is there any reason why Vladimir Kozlov has been treated in such a way?
Vince McMahon and other WWE officials were disappointed with how Vladimir Kozlov performed in the top of the card which is why he was demoted. Kozlov faced Triple H and Edge at last year's Survivor Series and struggled to get over the way they wanted him too. He faced a lot of criticism for underperforming despite working with two of the best workers in the company.
I read that sometime within the past few months, Kevin Fertig (formerly Kevin Thorn in WWE), worked a tryout match for TNA wrestling. How did the match go? Is Fertig TNA bound? And what is your general opinion of him as a wrestler?
The match went well but Kevin did not get a deal. Kevin is a friend of mine but I can objectively say he is a very talented worker and I think WWE gave up on him too quickly; especially with the Mordecai gimmick. He is interested in working in TNA and his match got good reviews, so hopefully something can be worked out in the future.
Has Jamie Noble really retired or is it part of a storyline?
As I reported here on WrestlingNewsWorld.com Premium, Jamie Noble's in-ring retirement is legitimate but he is expected to remain with WWE as a backstage producer.
I've heard people mentioning that matches were "overbooked". What exactly is an overbooked match?
A lot of times when people refer to a bout as "overbooked" they are talking about the finish. An overbooked finish is when there are multiple scenarios to end the match that result in the go-home sequence being cluttered. For example, both wrestlers hit their finishers but the referee gets knocked out. Another referee comes out from the back but another wrestler comes out from under the ring and knocks out that referee and helps one wrestler in the ring with a foreign object. The original referee wakes up and makes the three count. One of those scenarios would have been plenty to end the match, but when multiple are used the match finish is "overbooked".
When Edge returns to the ring do you see him as a heel or a face?
If WWE goes forth with plans to have him feud with Chris Jericho, he'll return as a babyface although I'm not sure how long that will last given Edge's natural ability to get over as a heel.
