Leaving TNA, Creative, New Announcer, Steiner/Booker
Written by Richard Gray on Oct 16, 2009 - 11:38:45 AM
I've heard you say several times that workers like Christian and Gail Kim will never get a big push in WWE because they were big in TNA. Why did Jeff Hardy get such a huge push in WWE after leaving TNA? And if Kurt Angle were to return to WWE do you think he would get booked the way Christian has been booked, or do you think he would go back to the main even spot he was at before he left?
Jeff Hardy is a different situation because he was never really a top worker until WWE pushed him as a World Champion. Vince McMahon has humbled Christian and Gail Kim, many feel because of his own ego, but the feeling is he doesn't want anyone to think TNA made a top WWE star. I'm not sure where Kurt Angle would be pushed if he were to return. There's talk if Booker comes back, he would also receive the "Christian treatment".
I read your response to the question about Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera in TNA. I'm not going to defend these two, but I am going to ask who else is out there that can do what they do? Among who's available who would you hire to run creative for your wrestling company?
There are plenty of people out there that I would hire above Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera. Eric Bischoff is very savvy on the business and has proved he has what it takes to book entertaining material. There are tons of former wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Ric Flair, etc. that all have great knowledge on the business and would work great as a head creative team member. I'm not sure if any of these people would accept, but they would all be better than the tandem of Russo and Ferrera. If I owned a wrestling company, I'd book the product myself and hire some of my friends that are former WWE creative team members to help me. TNA doesn't even need a big name; they could just find some people that would book storylines that made logical sense. Russo and Ferrera have a terrible track record and the majority of people would agree with me.
Who is the new female ring announcer on ECW?
The new female ring announcer is Lauren C. Mayhew. She is an actor and singer. WWE liked her because she is able to sing. For more on Lauren, you can visit her official website.
Hey Richard, I wanted to get your thoughts on Scott Steiner and Booker T potentially leaving TNA.
I actually do not think it will affect TNA as bad as some people may think. If Scott Steiner and Booker T both leave the company it will open the door for TNA to start pushing more of their talent. Guys like Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Hernandez and Matt Morgan deserve to work in the top of the card and should be pushed above a lot of these former-WWE guys. It'll be interesting to see if Booker and Steiner leave what they say about the TNA locker room. Jim Cornette has been very vocal about his discontent with TNA creative since leaving the company.
