London & Kendrick, WCW, Taker's Gimmick, Snitsky
Written by Richard Gray on Jul 24, 2008 - 10:34:34 AM
Paul London and Brian Kendrick were a very solid tag-team, but little more than jobbers as singles wrestlers. Why would the WWE choose to break them up and can we expect to see them back in the ring?
Brian Kendrick is actually in the midst of a push on SmackDown. I'm not sure if you caught the show last week but he has been given a bodyguard and a repackaged gimmick. As for London, he's still working as a job guy but he does possess very good in-ring talent. I do not see WWE teaming them together again anytime soon, especially until they see how Kendrick's push goes over.
I have to believe that the dangerous Powers that be angle of WCW is what ruined the company, I'm sure that at least 95% of wrestling fans know its fake, but we don't want it blatantly represented in its storylines, it is why I stopped watching WCW. With that said why would TNA hire Russo knowing all of this especially with a few former WCW stars such as Booker T, Sting, and Kevin Nash?
It would be far too easy to blame the downfall of World Championship Wrestling on Vince Russo. Russo did not help things but the company was doomed far before he got there. If WCW were to succeed it needed Ted Turner to take an active role in it and watch how he was spending his money. Basically Eric Bischoff was given a job that was way too big for him with an unlimited payroll and while it worked initially - it was not a sustainable business model. Bischoff made it a habit of signing talent to lucrative contracts and gave people such as Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash creative control over their characters. Doing this conceded any power that he possessed so the politics were uncontrollable. Backstage the place was a mess as talent was drinking before matches or doing other types of drugs. There was no control over the company which is why that it failed. I don't want you to think that I am blaming it on Eric Bischoff either as he was just given a job that he simply was not capable of doing.
Hey Richard, This is truly the best wrestling news site out today. My question is do you see WWE changing the Undertaker's gimmick back to the more realistic biker or him staying as the Deadman?
Thank you for the compliment. I get this question a lot but I have been getting it even more in recent weeks. I do not see WWE altering the Undertaker's gimmick at this point in his career. At 43 years old, Undertaker is approaching the later days of his career and I think that it would be a very poor decision to change what has made him a household name for so many years. Several fans enjoyed the biker gimmick; however, the Deadman gimmick is what made him the star that he is today.
I have noticed that WWE has tried to push Snitsky as a dominate superstar a few times; why do you think it's failed every time?
I think that it has failed because of poor booking of the Snitsky character. One of the biggest downfalls was when WWE paired him with Goldust Dustin Rhodes several years ago. He didn't look tough then and as a result he's become a career job guy. I don't think that Snitsky will ever be able to get over under his current gimmick. My only suggestion would be to repackage his character with a mask or something.
