Mysterio As Champ, Illness, Kofi A Main Eventer, Lashley
Written by Richard Gray on Apr 24, 2009 - 10:21:15 AM
Do you think that Rey Mysterio will ever be a World Champion again, if so when?
On SmackDown Rey Mysterio has a much better chance of reigning as World Champion again rather than on Raw. The Raw main event picture is very crowded and being on SmackDown certainly opens things up for him. So while I think the chances are better with Mysterio on SmackDown, there is no way for me to project future plans of the WWE and World Championships as the brand doesn't even have a world championship right now.
What happens if a wrestler gets sick. Like say it's something like mono or something and they can't physically perform in the ring. The only thing I've ever seen similar to that is every now and then an announcer is out sick. What about the wrestlers?
Most of the time workers gut it out when they catch a cold or the flu. If a wrestler is physically unable to perform, the card is changed. It is rare for a worker not to work if they are booked as most people are warriors and go no matter what. I remember John Cena telling a story where he worked one night with food poising and ended up defecating in his pants at ringside. Gross I know but it shows the commitment that the workers have when it comes to the business.
After Kofi Kingston's very impressive performance against Edge on WWE Superstars, do you see Kofi being a main eventer in the near future?
Since I do not get WGN America I didn't see the match on WWE Superstars, however, it does not surprise me to hear how well done the watch was. Kofi continues to impress with his in-ring work but I truly feel he needs a different gimmick to become a main event talent. There is no doubt he has the talent to work in the top of the card, I just feel with his current gimmick he would get stale quickly. We'll see but I think things need to be tweaked to get Kofi over at the next level.
My next question is about Bobby Lashley. Recently on MMA Live he was told UFC President Dana White does not allow people to fight in the UFC and also do pro wrestling. Lashley said he wants to be in UFC within the year so my question is regarding his TNA contract. Is it per show basis or does he have a deal where he can leave if UFC makes him an offer?
Lashley is currently working on a per-show deal in TNA but they are trying to work out a contract for him. The objective of the contract is to work it in so he can do both - pro wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts. While I am not well connected in the MMA world, from what I've heard, he has a lot of work to do before being able to compete in UFC. I also think if he does sign with TNA it will not bode well for UFC offering him a deal. I personally think Lashley agreed to work in TNA to keep his name out there in case his MMA career doesn't pan out.
