Nash's Work, TNA's Bold Move, Joe, WWE Superstars

Written by Richard Gray on May 1, 2009 - 11:29:02 AM

What is your opinion of Kevin Nash still wrestling?

I have never been high up on the ring work of Kevin Nash but he looks especially bad when working in TNA. Nash comes off to me as someone that is willing to "go through the motions" in order to draw a paycheck. TNA pushes him because he is a big name from the past while they should be building their younger workers as superstars. Aside from marketing issues, this is TNA's biggest problem and I think will end up hurting them in the long-term.

With TNA holding Slammiversary at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, a huge arena even in WWE terms, do you think this is a wise decision as it could either be a tremendous success and help cement TNA or it could further show the gap between TNA and WWE?

TNA holding Slammiversary at the Palace is a very bold move by the company. I'm not sure what makes them think they can fill that large of a venue as I don't even think they'll come close, but we'll see what happens. They are going to make sure there are people in seats and will probably have to heavily paper the show. The biggest problem with papering is you get a lot of fans that do not follow the product so the crowd reactions are off.

My question is about Samoa Joe's new "Nation of Violence" character. What are your thoughts on his new persona?

TNA repackaged Samoa Joe in an attempt to make him look more like a major star but I think it makes him look more indy than ever. As far as I know there are no plans to change it but it certainly needs tweaked. Joe is one of TNA's biggest missed opportunities. They spent so much time building him for a title reign last year then they gave him one of the most lackluster runs I have seen. They'd rather Mick Foley hold their title which is beyond me.

My question is in regards to WWE Superstars on WGN. Why does WWE need another television show? It seems that with the economy going the way it is, WWE would want to save as much money as they can, which is why I don't understand why they launched a new television show. And it's obvious from the ratings that not many people are paying attention. Why would WWE spend money on a show no one is watching?

I haven't seen the costs for WWE Superstars but I would imagine they are relatively low with the company taping at their weekly TVs. WWE wanted to establish a working relationship with WGN America, especially if something were to happen to MyNetworkTV, and wanted a show on Thursday nights. The ratings have been low but I think the clearance of WGN America has to be considered.
