There is a good list of wrestlers in the WWE who could be in the main event in any of the three brands but haven't received that push yet. Who do you think is next in line to become a big time main eventer in the WWE?
I think the top of the list would include CM Punk and Ken Kennedy. Before his suspension, Jeff Hardy was scheduled to be that guy. After winning the Money in the Bank ladder match and with rumors that he is going to Raw, CM Punk seems like a lock. Kennedy was already scheduled to win the World Heavyweight Championship at one point last year but missed out due to injury. He should get a run at the top soon as well.
Hi Richard, I love the site and this feature in particular. My question is about the Undertaker's new Gogoplata submission. Lately I've heard a lot of fans and industry insiders criticizing the use of the hold. Why is this?
Thanks for the kind words! I think I read something critical that Lance Storm wrote about Undertaker using the Gogoplata choke. Evidentially Storm felt like it did not have a place in professional wrestling because it is a legitimate hold in mixed martial arts. Undertaker, an avid MMA fan, adopted the move into his repertoire and I do not have a problem with it and can't imagine why Storm does.
My question is about Kennedy. He seemed to be getting a huge push a while back when he won Money in the Bank last year and also with the McMahon's "son" angle. But he lost the MITB push due to injury and he missed the McMahon angle because of suspension. He seemed to be destined for the heavyweight title but then got moved to Raw. Now he's just kind of a background character. What's his future?
The reason that Kennedy has been used as a ‘background character' recently is because he has been filming a straight to DVD movie down in Puerto Rico. There is no heat on Kennedy and he does have a bright future in WWE. When he returns it will be as an upper mid carder as a heel and he'll eventually get a role back at the top.
I've heard that Kurt Angle will be facing Randy Couture in a submission wrestling match later this year, and Brock Lesnar in MMA was big news. My question has to do with the Undertaker. I've heard him called the "best pure striker in the business", and he does seem to have some ground skills. In your opinion, how would he fare in an MMA match?
Undertaker would probably do pretty well in an MMA match if he had the right training. The Undertaker has great size and is very athletic so if he was healthy enough and had the proper training he could be tough in the Octagon. However, he is 43 years old so I doubt he is thinking of a career change at this stage in his life.
