Orton/Batista, Punk's Job, Lashley, WWE Studios, DiBiase
Written by Richard Gray on May 18, 2009 - 1:31:53 PM
What was the deal with the ending of the Randy Orton vs. Batista match at "Judgment Day"? I mean, seeing Ric Flair return was awesome, but the "disqualification" ending made the entire match seem like a complete waste of time and money.
WWE had to book the finish dirty to bring Ric Flair back. I'm not usually a fan of dirty finishes, especially on pay-per-view, however, Judgment Day is a B-level show and the finish kept tremendous heat on Randy Orton and Legacy. Furthermore it gave WWE more time to build Orton vs. Batista for a bigger showdown between the two. Therefore I didn't feel ripped off as I felt it helped add to the surprise of a Flair return and furthered the program with the inevitable return of Triple H.
Richard, I find it very confusing how the WWE is handling CM Punk. He won the MITB match for the 2nd straight year and moved to SmackDown to become one of the top babyfaces. Yet, the last two pay-per- views he has lost to Kane and Umaga CLEAN. Do you find this confusing or is it just me?
Kane had to go over CM Punk at Backlash because of how many times Punk had defeated Kane on television. As for Punk doing a job to Umaga, as I noted in my Richard Reacts blog earlier today, it does make him look weak but it is WWE booking 101. WWE booking 101 is that a worker always jobs in their hometown. That seemed to be a changing trend with John Cena going over at Survivor Series in Boston last year, but it held true last night. The company also wants to establish Umaga as a top heel on SmackDown.
What is the latest on Bobby Lashley's contract with TNA?
Lashley has still not signed a contract with TNA Wrestling. I believe he met with TNA officials at the last set of Impact tapings but a deal has still not been reached. They are working on ironing out a deal that will allow Lashley to be a TNA worker but will still allow him to compete in Mixed Martial Arts fights.
I just recently watched Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia starring Kennedy & have seen every other WWE Studios release except 12 Rounds. My favorites have been See No Evil, The Condemned & now Behind Enemy Lines, I was just wonder what are your favorites and what do you think the future holds for WWE Studios?
I have seen every WWE Studios production except for Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia and 12 Rounds. My favorite has been The Condemned starring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. It should have done better in the box office than it did. See No Evil starring Kane was probably my second favorite and The Marine is pretty much a blur to me. As for the future of WWE Studios, Vince McMahon said in the investor conference call a couple of weeks ago they were going to continue operations but with straight-to-DVD releases. Their next straight-to-DVD project is The Marine 2 starring Ted DiBiase which they have finished shooting.
Is Ted DiBiase Jr.'s brother up to WWE standards yet?
I'm assuming you are talking about Brett DiBiase who is under a WWE developmental contract. They also have a brother named Mike who is a professional wrestler. I was told a couple of weeks ago Brett looks to be ready and could be called up soon.
