Orton vs. Punk, Wrestlers/Movies, Adamle, Akio

Written by Richard Gray on May 6, 2008 - 10:45:43 AM

My question is about last night's match between Orton and CM Punk on Raw. I was really enjoying the match, and feel that the cheap finish with Regal turning out the lights cheated the fans. I thought it was a great idea last week when Regal did it at the main event to start up the story line, but the match between Orton and CM Punk was going great, and to end the match in that fashion when the two guys in the ring are the future of WWE makes me feel cheated. I was wondering what your thoughts on the match were, and how you felt with the ending.

I didn't have a problem with it and if you feel cheated then the angle worked perfect. It would be a different story if it were a pay-per-view and the company had been building the match for weeks only for it to end that way but it was just a way to get even more heat on William Regal. Personally I would rather have a couple of good minutes of wrestling (as we did in Orton vs. Punk) and no ending than no good wrestling at all. Sure it leaves you thirsty for more and you don't want it to happen every week but it was good to keep Regal's angle going. Furthermore I do not think that jobbing CM Punk out to Randy Orton would be the right move. He's done a lot of jobs lately, including last week on ECW. I remain rather puzzled as to why WWE gave him a clean win against Jericho only to job him out to Chuck Palumbo.

Hey, I love the site! I was just wondering what is your take on wrestlers acting in movies?

I think that it is a pretty natural transition. After all, WWE superstars are actors so doing movies is not really much of a stretch. Some are better than others but I think that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has made a good name for himself in Hollywood. I never saw The Marine with John Cena but Ryan did and told me that he played the role well. I thought Steve Austin did a phenomenal job in The Condemned and Kane was perfect for See No Evil. If a superstar wants to act and they are able to get the part, more power to them. In The Rock's case, I hold nothing against him. He is working a lighter schedule than he was when wrestling and is making more money. No matter how many people think he sold out, I respect him for following his dream and am grateful for the work that he did while in WWE. Without WWE, there would be no Rock but without The Rock there may not be a WWE.

What is the deal with Mike Adamle? Was he working last night or was he really that bad?

Mike Adamle was working in his commentary last night. I do not think that it made good sense to bring him back on Raw like that, but obviously the company is playing up the fact that fans have been very unhappy with his lackluster commentary. While I do not know this for sure, I think that he started out trying to be legitimate but they made it into an angle when he bombed. He could have been working the whole time but I doubt it.

I was wondering if Jimmy Wang Yang is the same guy who played Akio around 4 years ago in WWE.

Yes, Jimmy Wang Yang was Akio in WWE back about four years ago before he was released and went to Ring of Honor. Yang actually returned to WWE in 2006 as Akio but eventually adopted the Jimmy Wang Yang character when they put him on TV.
