I’m a fan of both John Cena and Triple H. However, I feel Randy Orton should retain the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. It seems WWE isn’t taking his title reign seriously, and I believe Randy retaining at WM will finally legitimize it. What are your thoughts on Randy? Champ? Or WWE’s fluke boy/pastime?
I already think that Randy Orton has legitimized himself as a real WWE Champion. I think the feeling was when he was first crowned the champion after John Cena’s injury is that even though he had already worn the strap before and is also a former World Heavyweight Champion that he was more of the “fill-in” champion until Cena could get back or Hunter could get his hands on the gold. However, I am under the impression that Orton’s latest run has changed the way a lot of people look at him. Orton is now seen as more mature and a top guy in the company. It would not surprise me at all if WWE decided to keep the strap on him at WrestleMania but I do not feel that it is necessary to legitimize his reign.
What do you see Bobby Lashley doing after WWE stops paying on his contract in May?
Neither Ryan nor I have spoken to Bobby Lashley since the end of January so it’s pretty clear that WWE has a gag order on him until after they stop paying on his contract. With that being said I think that the most likely scenario calls for Lashley to end up in TNA Wrestling. I know that Kurt Angle and Booker T are already pushing the company to reach out to him and I think that he is far more marketable in professional wrestling than he would be in Mixed Martial Arts. Lashley told me himself that he would not work for UFC.
It seems like a lot of people do not like the announcing work of Jonathan Coachman on SmackDown. Well how about this: why not have the best talker in WWE, Santino Marella announcing, he would be hilarious and also when he would wrestle, it would actually mean something?
That is a good idea but I doubt it will happen. Marella is seen as a guy that is too valuable not to be a regular on-screen character rather than announcer and his role is important in that he can develop storylines by losing and still be legitimate. However, personally I think that the move would be a good one since SmackDown lacks personality with Cole and Coachman and needs something to spice it up.
Do you miss WCW programming?
This is a different but interesting question. I do and I don’t. I miss some of the better programming they did such as the New World Order angle in the beginning or the excellent bouts featuring Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Benoit. However, I do not miss the disaster of the company that we saw in the later years. WCW ran its course and ultimately died because it was poorly managed. If the company were ran better we could very well be watching WCW programming now instead of WWE.
