Randy Orton, Springer Skit, Chris Masters, TNA's Move

Written by Richard Gray on Feb 16, 2010 - 10:50:31 AM

Do you see WWE turning Randy Orton to a face in the near future? The pops he has got lately are pretty good.

I've been told the current plan is for Randy Orton to turn babyface in this ongoing program with Legacy. This could change at any time but based on the reactions last night on Raw it seems this is the direction they are going. WWE usually starts the turn and lets the fans decide. Orton continues to be cheered so we'll see what happens. There was talk of Ted DiBiase turning babyface and Orton/Rhodes remaining heels back in December but that all changed because WWE felt DiBiase wouldn't be over as a babyface.

I feel compelled to say it -- after a while, I thought the in-ring segment with Jerry Springer was just a little bit silly, even though some parts of it seemed "not quite PG" and somewhat entertaining. What are your thoughts on the segment with Jerry Springer?

My initial reaction to the skit was that it was embarrassing but after it was completed it wasn't as bad as I first thought. I just have a problem with silly things being booked as I feel it exposes the business. I'm old school in that I think the angles should dominate the show and progress to the pay-per-views. WWE Raw is not Saturday Night Live and while I understand it was meant to be comedy I could have done without it. However, it was not the worst thing I've seen with a guest host.

Why has Chris Masters been reduced to a comedy role on Raw? His first go with the company; he was one of the top heels on Raw basically. Now, he's strictly in comedy segments. I don't get it.

Things are a lot different this time around with Chris Masters as he has a past that includes two WWE Wellness Policy violations. The only way Masters will ever get back as a main event worker in WWE is for him to convince officials he is worth taking a risk on. In 2010, where WWE wants to eliminate as much negative publicity as possible, I do not think it's likely. Masters is lucky to be back and should work hard in whatever role he is given; at least he's getting used on television.

Do you think TNA moving to Monday nights is a bad idea?

No, I think a move to Monday nights is essential to TNA Wrestling if they are going to compete with WWE. I've said it time and time again that Hulk Hogan in TNA is "sink or swim" for the promotion. The first time they went head-to-head with WWE Raw they set record ratings. TNA officials are hoping that continues. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff understand the importance of being live in order to compete. Airing on Monday nights and live (every other week) should help the company. The ratings will tell the tale but I'm looking forward to it and hoping history repeats itself.
