RVD, Orton/Legacy, Incidents, Guest Hosts, TNA

Written by Richard Gray on Sep 9, 2009 - 12:58:02 PM

I know that Rob Van Dam is taking care of his wife recently, but is he ever going to return to wrestling and if so what promotion do you think he is going to, WWE or TNA?

Rob Van Dam is actually wrestling this weekend with WSW in Portugal. RVD wrote on his Twitter page yesterday, "The Van Dams have arrived in Portugal 4 the big WSW matches this weekend!" so I assume his wife is with him. As for him returning to WWE or TNA, I haven't heard anything along those lines.

Wasn't it nice to see Randy Orton take out John Cena on this week's Raw without help from Legacy? I feel like sometimes they make him look too weak by always needing help.

It was a nice way to build to their match this Sunday at Breaking Point as well as separate their feud from Legacy's program with DeGeneration X. A lot of readers are frustrated with Legacy helping Orton but it is all building to a blowup angle where either Cody Rhodes or Ted DiBiase are going to be greatly elevated. I like the cowardly heel gimmick and am looking forward to the blowup that is bound to create two fresh main event talents.

With the recent Big Show and The Great Khali incident, do you know of any other backstage rivalries?

Incidents backstage are actually fairly common in this business. They do not always get physical but every now and then workers will exchange words over something that happens in the ring. I remember about five years ago Booker T and Batista got into it. In WWE everyone is competing for their spot, they know one blunder and they could lose it so they get upset when another worker messes up. Take Mickie James' on-screen reaction to Gail Kim's botchomania a couple of weeks ago, no one likes to look bad in this business, especially at the fault of their opponent.

Do the guest hosts really set matches on Raw or WWE asked them to just act setting matches?

The guest hosts are on-screen characters just like the General Managers. They do not have any input creatively or with how the show works. They are there to promote something of theirs while putting the mainstream spotlight on WWE.

If TNA's ultimate goal is to be serious competition to WWE aren't they fighting a losing battle? Surely if Vince McMahon sees the beginning of TNA becoming any kind of a threat he'll make a buyout offer they can't refuse.

That's not exactly correct. Panda Energy, the parent company of TNA, is a significant financial backer and they've turned down offers to sell the company before. These offers didn't come from McMahon but they have shown no interest in selling TNA. Furthermore if TNA got big enough Vince McMahon would not be able to afford to jump in and buy them. The bigger TNA gets the more valuable it becomes. You have to remember, they basically gave Vince McMahon WCW as the company was worth nothing without a television deal.
