Taker vs. HBK, Thoughts On WWE NXT, TNA, Daniel Bryan
Written by Richard Gray on Feb 24, 2010 - 11:10:07 AM
Why is WWE doing The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels again? One would think they are going to have impossible expectations to live up too given their outstanding match last year?
WWE is hoping the streak vs. career stipulation is enough to sell the match and it sure makes it more interesting to me. I agree both The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are going to have to live up to nearly impossible expectations but both are seasoned veterans that are going to give it all they have. There are questions about both of their health, working much more banged up than they were last year. We'll see what happens but the streak vs. career stipulation should be enough to sell this match.
What did you think of the opening episode of NXT? What kind of expectations do you have towards it?
I actually posted my reactions on the WrestlingNewsWorld.com Facebook page as the show aired. The opening segment featuring The Miz and Daniel Bryan was flat. Bryan has never been known for his mic skills and I thought that was a poor way to open the show. Christian & Heath Slater vs. Michael Tarver & Carlito was a good TV match carried by Christian. WWE needs to do more with the rookies working with the pros as it keeps their "greenness" from being exposed. David Otunga vs. Darren Young was terrible and Otunga needs a lot more work. WWE gave them a very basic match, less than five minutes long, and it came off really bad. Otunga botched the go-home sequence and really made himself look bad on national TV. The main event was a great TV match with Daniel Bryan proving how good he is. There was no way they could put Bryan over Chris Jericho but it didn't make him look weak. He took a hard bump to the outside (on the announce table) which will earn him respect from the boys backstage.
Is TNA making a mistake jumping to Monday nights right in the middle of Wrestlemania season when Raw ratings usually skyrocket? Especially with Stone Cold hosting March 15th, do you think it would of been smarter for them to wait until after Wrestlemania?
It's sink or swim for TNA Wrestling. This is the time of the year where the wrestling business is at its peak. There isn't stiff competition on Monday nights (such as Monday Night Football) so I think it's a good decision. The fact that Raw ratings increase during Wrestlemania time is actually a good thing for TNA as there are more wrestling fans watching that they have a chance to "flip". TNA needs to promote it like crazy and go for it. They've messed around for eight years (making moderate gains) but it's time to get serious.
Do you think Bryan Danielson will be used right in WWE?
Bryan Danielson Daniel Bryan is going to be the face of WWE NXT. After what he did last night there is no way WWE officials can ignore him. Bryan can go and it's time for those that do not know about him to learn about him.
