Taped Shows/Ratings, Regal, Cryme Tyme's Release, RVD

Written by Richard Gray on Apr 17, 2008 - 10:53:03 AM

I am interested to know - why does a “taped delay” broadcast have such an effect on the RAW cable rating as was the case this past week? I did read a comment that part of the reason was the lack of Mr. Cena - but SURELY the rating is not based on him alone? Also, was it public knowledge that he (Cena) was staying State side? Thanks - and please keep up the GOOD work.

The fact that Raw aired from tape and the fact that John Cena was not on the show were probably part of the rating being so low but WWE should still not be doing ratings that low. Fewer people watch when a show is taped because they can reader spoilers on the Internet (we had ongoing coverage as the show was being taped) but that is still no reason for the show to do such a lackluster rating. To give you a better example, TNA Impact went live the Thursday before WrestleMania weekend and did one of their lowest ratings of the year. They were up against stiff competition with the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament but there are several factors that play into the television ratings. You have to take into account how the event is promoted; who is advertised for the show, as well as what else is on television. If you want my opinion on why the Raw rating was so low this past Monday I think it was because WWE treated it as a “throwaway” show. They were more focused on advertising for next Monday’s three-hour Raw throughout the week. I am not sure if John Cena was advertised for the show in London or not but there was very little promotion of the event here in the United States.

My question is about William Regal. Do you think he is better as a wrestler or General Manager?

I think the role that he is currently in fits him perfectly, especially how he was used Monday on Raw. Regal is a good talker and entertaining in the General Manager role and he proved Monday that he still has good in-ring skills. I think if Regal were not the GM of Raw than he would just be another mid-card worker. With him in the GM role it makes him seem more important and actually makes his matches important. To answer your question I think he is better as the GM that is still a wrestler.

Why was Cryme Tyme released on September 2, 2007?

While I do not remember the full details it had something to do with an incident at a WWE show with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch. Evidentially it was not that bad because they were brought back, however, it was enough to get them cut.

I am a big fan of Rob Van Dam and I was curious as to what your opinion is on his run in WWE? I have heard many complaints about his lack of a decent push among other things, but if you judge his success based on titles held I think he did pretty well.

I think Rob Van Dam had an excellent run in WWE. I know what you are talking about with people complaining but very few people get a run with the WWE Championship. If Van Dam would not have gotten busted for marijuana possession, it's hard to tell where that push would have taken him. He was extremely over with the fans and is an outstanding in-ring performer.
