Trump, Evan Bourne, Slammiversary Mistake?, Natalya
Written by Richard Gray on Jun 17, 2009 - 1:18:06 PM
Why has Donald Trump been named as the new "owner" of Raw when a lot of earlier reports suggested that Ric Flair would be announced as the new General Manager of the show? It just doesn't seem to me that Trump would be a good fit for the company.
Many people were speculating Ric Flair would be named the General Manager and he still might. However, to have it happen in Charlotte, North Carolina was just too obvious and I knew they'd swerve with something else. Remember Donald Trump is the "owner" and not General Manager and he could always "appoint" a GM for "his" brand. I don't foresee Trump being involved with WWE for the long-term but I'm willing to see where they go with the angle. As to why the decision was made to bring in Trump, there is no way I could guess what goes through the head of Vince McMahon.
My question is in regards to Evan Bourne and his push or lack thereof. Before Evan Bourne was injured he was getting major rubs from Rey Mysterio and other superstars but since he has come back he has been an afterthought.
This is one of the biggest risks a worker takes when they get injured and is also why a worker will do anything they can to stay on television to keep from losing their spot. Once someone suffers an injury like Evan Bourne, it affects management's confidence in them. It doesn't matter if the injury was the worker's fault because at the end of the day they are still labeled as the talent that got hurt. Just look at what happened to Kennedy, he got chance after chance but finally management was not willing to continue putting the effort in bringing him back. I'm not saying it is right but it's just the way this business works. This business is cut throat and as soon as one worker goes down, McMahon has someone else ready to fill their spot. I'm afraid for Bourne to be pushed back to the top he has to prove he can stay healthy. We all know Vince McMahon is not crazy about the fast-paced risk-taking style for this very reason.
With TNA holding Slammiversary at The Palace at Auburn Hills, the home of the Detroit Pistons, and ticket sales suffering, do you think TNA made a mistake by booking the venue?
Yes, I have no idea why TNA would book such a large venue in the Detroit area. Even in good economic times it would be a questionable decision but to book it in a city that is in major economic turmoil is eye-rolling. TNA will probably have to heavily paper the show to get a respectable amount of people in there but they are basically doing that anyway with tickets available for as low as $7.
What do you think of Natalya's role as Tyson Kidd & DH Smith's valet?
I like it. I understand it will delay her from getting a chance to perform in the ring but it gives her a chance to get over on television. With the current shape of the women's division in WWE, there are only a handful of Divas that are going to get a legitimate push. Natalya as a valet gets her out of the mix and on television.
