Vickie Guerrero & GM Role, Tag Titles, Morrison, More
Written by Richard Gray on Jun 12, 2009 - 3:08:19 PM
Why does Raw change its General Manager so frequently? It seemed like people bought Vickie Guerrero as a heel and her "excuse me" gimmick. Will she return to television?
The reason Vickie Guerrero "quit" as the on-screen General Manager of Raw is because she has legitimately quit the company. We have a lot of news regarding the situation in our Backstage News Section where I reveal what happened and how it has affected Rey Mysterio's status within the company. Be sure and check it out as we have a lot of exclusive news not available on the free version of the website.
I thought the Unified Tag Team Titles would be based out of ECW, but the Colons were drafted to RAW, I thought it was a good idea so that each brand could have two titles to compete for, have the plans for the titles changed?
When WWE creative first decided to unify the Tag Team Championship belts there was talk the belts would be based out of ECW. However, the company now recognizes the titles on all three brands so they can be defended anywhere. With Carlito & Primo being drafted to Raw, they are primarily defended there as company management wants Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes back in the mix.
Where do you think John Morrison will be by WrestleMania; in a title match or an upper mid card match with someone like Chris Jericho?
It's impossible for me to tell the future but things are certainly going in the right direction for John Morrison. WWE officials are pleased with how his push is going on SmackDown and his matches have been getting good reviews from house shows. If Morrison is not elevated by WrestleMania 26 I think he will be a good candidate to go over in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
I just picked up a copy of The Wrestler on Blu-Ray and it's an amazing film that really tells a lot about what goes on behind the scenes in wrestling. Why would Vince and WWE endorse this film when it makes the lives of wrestlers look so bad and even shows Mickey Rourke's character using steroids at one point? It would seem Vince and WWE would want to avoid this type of thing so why did they do so much promotion for the film?
The way the film was looked at by WWE was that The Wrestler portrayed what happens in the minor leagues, not in their company. It even gave Vince McMahon a chance to play up his Wellness Policy and talk about everything WWE does (such as pay for rehab) to prevent what Rourke's character went through in the movie. McMahon liked the opportunity for the celebrity tie-in for WrestleMania and was really hoping Rourke would win the Oscar before the biggest PPV of the year. That didn't happen but the tie-in did allow for a lot of cross-promotion. Rourke has said McMahon's response to the film meant more to him than anything else. I personally feel Rourke's performance in the film was one of the best individual performances of all-time.
I was wondering if you knew why Jerry "The King" Lawler is allowed to do indy appearances and wrestle for indy shows despite being under contract with WWE?
Jerry Lawler's contract is different from a regular performer's contract. It may be a Legend's deal but I know it's non-exclusive and allows Lawler to make appearances outside of WWE. All appearances he makes have to be approved beforehand by WWE.
