Vickie Over Santina, WWE Superstars, Flair, Go-Home
Written by Richard Gray on May 19, 2009 - 9:43:11 AM
Why in the world was Vickie Guerrero given the win over "Santina" Marella to win the "Miss WrestleMania" crown? Has Raw become so boring that WWE had to resort to THAT?
I agree it was an eye-rolling call from creative. The company has spent a lot of time building up the Santina character, giving it clean wins over Beth Phoenix, now job it out after an attack from William Regal?!? I thought I was watching TNA Impact for a second. I wasn't high up on last night's show and wish I could explain why it was done. Santina has been pushed because of how over it has been which is why it was made a regular character after WrestleMania. There was talk the character was going to lead to a babyface turn for Beth Phoenix but it looks like that babyface turn went to Santino Marella himself.
My question is regarding the distribution of "WWE Superstars". Why hasn't it been available outside the US? Even major international markets in the UK, Australia and most of Europe have not picked it up yet. Will "Superstars" be exclusive to the US?
WWE Superstars has a very small distribution in the United States. WGN America, the network it airs on here, has a very limited distribution as it is not available in several markets (I don't get the channel myself). The best I can tell is WWE wanted to establish a working relationship with WGN America as they were in the running to get SmackDown before MyNetworkTV snagged it. I have speculated WWE wanted to form a relationship with another network should anything happen to MyNetworkTV which is currently having problems. As for the future of WWE Superstars, my guess is WWE is probably trying to get more clearance for it but nothing has happened yet.
It almost seems like Ric Flair is pulling a Brett Favre, retire, unretire. If Ric Flair wants to return to wrestling does he want to return full time?
Ric Flair has made it clear to WWE officials he wants to wrestle again. Flair has received offers from promotions all around the world offering him big money to return to the ring. Flair has told those close to him he wants to wrestle for WWE if he is going to wrestle. As I reported yesterday, he didn't have a contract when he worked Judgment Day so I'm not sure if they are working on one or not. The big hang up is he is booked for several upcoming Ring of Honor shows including scheduled meet and greets.
Hi, Richard. I always read your thoughts on the pay-per-views and they are really good. The question has to do with them. What do you mean by 'go-home sequence?'
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoy the Richard Reacts series on The Blog Spot. When I say go-home sequence, I am talking about the series of spots before the wrestler's go to the finish.
