WNW, TNA's Future, Seth Green, Mike Knox
Written by Richard Gray on Jul 16, 2009 - 11:02:28 AM
I would just like to know, as well as other readers how long has WNW been around? I come to this site daily, it rocks!
First of all, thank you for the kind words regarding the site. Most people that send in questions include kind words for the site and I edit them out to make Ask WNW a smooth read but Ryan and I greatly appreciate all of the compliments. We both work very hard on a daily basis to bring all of you the best professional wrestling coverage in the entire world. As for your question, WrestlingNewsWorld.com began in 1999 as UltimateWWF.com under George Patton; I purchased the website from George in 2003 when it had already moved to WrestlingNewsWorld.com. In 2007, WrestlingNewsWorld.com became my full-time occupation. You can read more about the history of WNW at this link.
I know what TNA needs; you know what TNA needs and many older workers have said what TNA needs, how come TNA doesn't get it?
I'm assuming you are talking about logical storylines, better marketing and development of younger stars in summarizing that we know what TNA needs. As for why the company continues on the path they are, they do it because they continue to grow. For as long as TNA's viewership grows they are going to keep doing what they are doing. TNA has accomplished many things. When they first debuted many people didn't think they would last, 7 years later they are still here and growing. Their biggest problem in my opinion is they are not preparing for the long-term, letting workers such as Samoa Joe and AJ Styles be overshadowed by workers such as Mick Foley and Sting. Furthermore TNA has not done anything to suggest they are a WWE alternative. As Larry Zbyszko told me in a phone call several weeks ago, TNA watches what Vince does and they copy it. They've made some changes, such as a 6-sided ring, but it's still a product focused on storylines and gimmicks instead of showcasing the athletic talent of their roster. Not all of TNA's programming is bad; in fact, there have been TNA shows I have greatly enjoyed. I will be interested to see where TNA goes from here but I don't foresee any changes until growth becomes stagnant.
Seeing Seth Green wrestle on Raw reminded me of when WCW put Jay Leno in a wrestling match. It was a joke then and a joke this past Monday. Why did they do it?
WWE did it for the same reason WCW did it - they wanted a celebrity tie-in for the mainstream exposure. It was not meant to be something serious but something to get people talking about the product during the summer months. This has been the entire initiative behind the guest host gimmick.
Where is Mike Knox and what are they planning to do with him?
I heard a rumor Mike Knox has backstage heat and could be on the company chopping block. That's all I know at this time so I do not want to speculate on his future.
