WWE PPVs, Bourne On Raw Or SD, Jeff Hardy, More
Written by Richard Gray on May 13, 2009 - 10:46:40 AM
Do you think WWE should reduce the amount of pay-per-views they do? I feel like there are too many close together which limits the amount of time to effectively build feuds.
I wouldn't mind seeing WWE cut down to 12 pay-per-views a year but I haven't heard of any plans to do so. I don't think WWE would ever do less than that because of how profitable the pay-per-view shows are for them. I agree with your point in that there is not enough time to build programs between pay-per-views which is why we see a lot of rematches at certain B-level shows such as Backlash.
Do you think Evan Bourne has a chance of heading to either Raw or SmackDown by the end of the year?
There is always a chance but I don't think it would be the right move. Evan Bourne is one of the top babyfaces on the brand (only second to Christian) and he needs more time to establish himself before being moved to Raw or SmackDown. I like how WWE brings workers up from developmental to ECW to give them much needed television experience. I'm afraid if Bourne is moved to Raw or SmackDown now or even in the next couple of months it will be too early and he will run the risk of being buried as an enhancement guy.
Do you think Jeff Hardy could be given the World Heavyweight Championship at Judgment Day as an extra incentive to sign a new contract?
I think it would be the right move but I'm not sure if WWE will switch the belt again this soon. Jeff Hardy needs to be built back up as a legitimate top guy because SmackDown is in dire need of top babyfaces. As we have been reporting on WrestlingNewsWorld.com Premium, Hardy is expected to sign an extension very soon.
Recently I attended a WWE House show, and during Shawn Michaels' match, periodically some fans were chanting "You screwed Bret!" after this went on for a couple minutes I overheard a kid no older than 10 or 11, ask Who's Bret? The kid was wearing the new Jeff Hardy T shirt as well as arm bands, and he even drew CM Punk X's on his hands so He's obviously a big WWE fan. It got me thinking how do you explain Bret Hart? Yes there is a DVD out but if he's never really talked about on air other than a name drop new fans have no idea who he is. My question is do you think Bret's decision to distance himself from wrestling is ruining the legacy's of not only him but of Brian Pillman, Davey Boy Smith, Jim Neidhart and Stampede wrestling?
I do not think that Bret's decision to distance himself from wrestling is ruining his legacy. Sure there are going to be younger fans that do not know who he is, but there are also going to be younger fans that do not know who Steve Austin or The Rock are either. This is just the evolution of the business and the younger generations are not going to fully comprehend what went on before them. The older, more educated fans, know who these workers are and have great respect for them. However, there are not many fans out there that know all of the legends in every generation but that does not by any means devalue what they did for the business.
