WWF To WWE, ROH Talent, New Pushes, WSX
Written by Richard Gray on Jul 18, 2008 - 2:42:53 PM
I read that before the World Wildlife Fund sued WWE (WWF) that there was some agreement as to how WWE could use the WWF initials overseas and they violated it which was why they got sued. My question is what was this agreement and how was it violated? And now since the World Wildlife Fund is Called the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, is it still using the WWF initials?
This is a pretty old story but from what I remember WWE violated their agreement in their merchandising overseas. Rather than trying to explain the agreement and how WWE violated it, here is a link to the actual agreement that WWE entered in 1994 with the World Wildlife Fund. Also to answer the second part of your question, yes the World Wildlife Fund for Nature still uses the WWF initials.
Love the site, it's a dream come true for a wresting fan. With the ECW's newest "Superstar Initiative" and TNA always looking for new stars who do you believe is the next ROH star to sign a deal with a major company, and how soon do you think it will happen?
That is quite a compliment - thank you! As for the next Ring of Honor worker to sign with WWE or TNA I think that the most obvious name would be Bryan Danielson because he got a tryout match with WWE a couple of weeks ago. The hang up on the deal I believe has to do with his ROH contract. I still can't believe that WWE has not gone after Nigel McGuinness. Nonetheless there is no way for me to project how soon that any of these workers will sign with WWE or TNA.
I was wondering, what the deal is on some of the newly drafted stars and if they will get a decent push. I have seen what they have done with Brian Kendrick and Deuce, but do you think Carlito, Super Crazy, and DH Smith are going to get a push or continue to job to the younger talent?
I think that DH Smith has the best chance out of those you named to get a push. Carlito is still having problems within the company and honestly I do not expect him to be there much longer unless things change. As for Super Crazy, I think that he is more of a career job guy that will probably continue to work in the same capacity as someone like Funaki.
I enjoyed WSX on MTV. They had athletic matches and entertaining programming. Why wouldn't WWE steal some of the ideas used with that company for ECW?
Vince McMahon and the powers that be at WWE are not very fond of their talent executing maneuvers that carry a big risk of injury therefore they try to get around it as much as possible. Just recently McMahon has allowed talent to start using the 450 splash again but there is still a style that McMahon wants his talent to work to prevent a serious injury. I liked the stuff in WSX as well but they were working the more fast-paced style to try and gain attention. In the end it did not work and probably would not work in WWE. Sure it gives diehard fans like you and me a rush but it is not something that appeases the masses.
