Austin Aries Wasn’t Happy With TNA Title Reign, SoCal Val Legal Update

Austin Aries Unhappy w/TNA Title Reign

Mike Mooneyham of The Post and Courier has a new piece online featuring quotes from Austin Aries. Below are the highlights:

Why his reign as TNA Champion was his least favorite: “I never really felt I got off the ground. I felt like I had my legs cut off from underneath me before I had a chance to run,” says Aries, who won the belt from Bobby Roode in July 2012 but dropped it 98 days later to Jeff Hardy.

Future of AJ Styles in TNA: “AJ Styles really is phenomenal, no pun intended, with what he does and what he brings to the table, but I think any company finds a way to survive, whether the names are Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Steve Austin or Ric Flair, all of whom have left and gone someplace else. Guys are going to step up. That doesn’t mean you’re going to replace a guy like AJ Styles. It just means that someone’s got to step up and carry a little more weight.

“That being said, I don’t think anyone wants to see AJ Styles leave. When you think TNA, he’s one of the first guys you think of. I think it would be great if he spent his whole career there if that’s what he wants and he’s happy. That’s the bottom line.”

Future of Hulk Hogan in TNA: “Hogan is doing whatever’s good for Hogan … just like he’s done his whole career,” says Aries. “And just like he should continue to do. And if that means staying with TNA, great. If that means going to some other venture, then I wish him all the luck.”

Aries gets it. Pro-wrestling is a business, and everyone who does it for a living is in it to do what’s best for themselves. So it just never made any sense to me when Hogan takes heat all the time from the IWC for doing just that. Especially when someone like Aries, who is a IWC darling, comes out and basically says there’s nothing wrong with it because everybody is doing it. Hogan has made a ton of money for other wrestlers that they wouldn’t have made otherwise just by working at the same company. Because when he was wrestling everywhere he went wound up being the top company. Not to mention the fact that if it wasn’t for him making wrestling as popular as he made it all of these wrestlers wouldn’t be making anywhere near what they are today. Anyone who goes into any business to be a nice guy, and to worry about somebody else is going to be a huge failure. Especially in a cut throat business like pro-wrestling. Every single one of the IWC that bitch and moan about Hogan would do things the exact same way if they themselves were put in his shoes. That’s a fact. Anyone saying they wouldn’t is lying. Either that or they wouldn’t be anywhere near as successful as Hogan was.
