Babyface Miz, Why Kizarny Left WWE, Troubling Ratings, Slammy Awards

What are your thoughts on Miz’s face turn that he has been pulling off the last few weeks? I’ve been hearing a lot of people bad mouthing it without giving it what I think is a proper chance, while I think it has been doing just fine as of late.

I was told last week that WWE officials were already second-guessing The Miz’s babyface turn. It’s early give up on it and WWE has a history of giving up on turns too quickly, however, Miz is a natural heel. I like him better that way and haven’t seen anything as a babyface that leads me to believe he will be a bigger babyface. That said, he’s talented enough to get over as either but I’m not sure babyface Miz can surpass heel Miz.

Why did Kizarny leave the WWE? He obviously had a connection with Edge and he had beautifully strange gimmick – certainly one I hadn’t seen before. What happened?

In June 2009 I spoke at length with Kizarny about his WWE release (interview here). He told me all of the producers gave him high marks on his matches and all of the writers were happy with his work. However, he told me that Vince McMahon was set on him as a babyface while everyone else felt he should be a heel. He was disappointed the company gave up on him so quickly but it’s just how things happened.

Given the ratings slide and live attendance issues, when does WWE start dipping into their pot of elders (e.g.. The Rock, Austin, Lesnar etc.) to stoke interest?

The Rock and Brock Lesnar are expected to be back on television in early 2013. Rock is confirmed for Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and Wrestlemania so it’s coming. The ratings slide is troubling and highlights a myriad of problems that I could spend pages trying to highlight.

Do WWE workers care about the Slammy Awards? Are they awards that hail a worker’s accomplishments or are they much like the HOF, whomever Vince thinks will draw an audience/make money wins the awards?

It’s just a scripted reality show, nothing more and nothing less. The Slammy’s aren’t held in the same regard as the WWE Hall of Fame as it’s more a promotional mechanism for end-of-the-year programming. It’s a fun concept and adds value to otherwise throwaway television.

    Poor Kizarny

    • Guy Landau

I remember him, no way did he receive high marks for his work. He had a unique gimmick, but I specifically remember WNW reporting he was given work with MVP constantly so that MVP could carry him, and he earned every bit of that treatment.

Seen him live once. I wish I could delete the memory. Not a good worker.

His one match I saw on SD, may have been his only, was awful. POOR MVP for having to job to him

  • Liam

Persoannly I think Miz is better now than ever. His mic work is supreme, and his interactions with Punk/Heyman and the Rhodes Scholars were excellent. For me it’s working

    • Philip Thompson

Yeah – his work this past Monday really seemed like he'd been studying the work of Chris Jericho – although Jericho is another one who Richard much prefers as a heel!

      • Blazeking

Jericho was was of the guys who mentored him. Seems like Jericho made a clone to be honest, lol.

    • KingKongBrody

      Agreed

KIzarny aka Sinn Bodhi is a wrestler I want to see return. I've spoken to him just a couple times, and he's really passionate about wrestling and is a great guy. I honestly believe that if he was allowed to be his Warlord of Weird style of heel persona, we would've had a top card heel in WWE that would've brought that Jake the Snake taste with a dash of Mankind added in for flavor appeal.

Is that a picture of Kizarny? Man, he got fat..

    • Nick B

He was always kinda fat. Go watch his match with MVP.

  • /travis.hyers Travis

He was quite old I think. Kizarny was.

  • Matt

The Miz is golden whether he's a heel or face. He's great on the mic and has a continuing better in ring work.

  • LeftyTosser

It would be sad for VKM to abandon the face turn of Miz. He appears to be someone that can handle either side of the coin with solid performances.

  • John

Ratings didn't really improve when much when Brock returned earlier in the year, or even during the build up to Wrestlemania when The Rock would show up.. The show just isn't very good right now, and with the last few weeks of the regular season coming up in the NFL, i just don't see WWE ratings improving at all in the next few weeks.

  • Jaryd

So Kizarny's release wasn't so much "creative has nothing for you" as "creative can't decide what to do with you so see you later"

  • Pashirt

Kizarny Is Awesome, But Now He’s Fat

He was crap. That's what happened.

On the mic, the miz is better than cena, shemus, orton, bigshow, del rio n all other main eventers except cm punk, rock n jericho!

WWE doesn't need to rely on legends to turn ratings around, they have talent on their roster which can do the job if they would just use them properly and build new stars. If WWE is going to persist in putting out a mediocre television product, that is going to reflect in the ticket sales for house shows. What makes them think you're going to go out of your way to buy a ticket to a house show if you don't particularly like what you're seeing on TV?

NXT produces a better quality product in one hour chunks whereas RAW is all flash and boring segments with MAYBE a brief opportunity for a seldom seen talent to let us know they're still on the roster. Hopefully WWE doesn't completely kill The Shield at TLC and have them vanish from TV altogether.

That's the problem with WWE effectively having a monopoly with the wrestling business, there's no incentive for them to actually improve.

  • JoMo12

I really hope they don’t scrap the face turn for Miz. I’m absolutely loving this so far! I haven’t laughed so hard at promos like his last two in a long time. It’s an edgier face turn not the same cookie cutter faces like Kofi and Rey.

  • Craig Harrison

I find I have to take a lot

  • Craig Harrison

Of what Richard says with a pinch of salt and form my own opinions. But that is what wrestling is all about opinions. Mix was due a turn live crowds certainly in the UK where doing his catchphrases with him.
