Backstage News On Hulk Hogan Working With WWE Once Again & Why His Inclusion In WWE 2K14 Is A Big Deal

We reported earlier here at that WWE 2K14 will feature a game mode called “30 Years of Wrestlemania.” The mode gives the player the ability to re-live 45 classic Wrestlemania matches such as Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant at Wrestlemania III. That announcement accompanied the obvious announcement that Hogan will be a playable character in the game.

We're told Hogan cleared it with Dixie Carter for his likeness to be used in the upcoming WWE title. According to a source, Hogan is doing this to help restore his relationship with WWE and Vince McMahon. This is seen as a way to "re-cement the bridge" in order to solidify future merchandising opportunities with the promotion that made him famous.

Hogan just turned 60 and knows that the best way to help rebuild himself financially (following the ugly divorce with Linda) is to make himself available to the WWE giant. We're told Vince doesn't feel Hogan has the drawing power that he once had, as has been evident in TNA's ratings, but does see him as "big money" in terms of merchandise, licensing and DVD sales. Hogan recognizes this as well and his inclusion in WWE 2K14 is part of the two sides working together again.

For people to look at Hogan's inclusion in WWE 2K14 as "no big deal," we're told they aren't seeing the bigger picture. Hogan is clearly getting himself back under the umbrella of the company he help build.

linda mcmahon and hogan were gonna last i swear. They were so cute together. My heart is completely broken

Who knows? Had Linda Mac & Hogan lasted, she might be a senator as we speak. Very Bizarro World, indeed.

Surely the Linda McMahon is a typo

    • Yeah it was because let me tell ya. The Bubba Love Sponge/Hogan stuff was bad enough but if he and Linda McMahon had something… I just… OK that visual was too much.

      • amaanakter

That visual will forever be in my mind now Richard! Thanks haha!

I like the concept of the WrestleMania mode, however the fact that the game is being made by the same people, means it’s probably going to suck again!

Yukes has had its share of ups and downs in the programming department, but I think the publisher change will help the Quality Control some. THQ never cared about quality as long as the game was done on time. Take 2 and 2K Sports try to make sure most of their bugs are fixed prior to launch.

Hogan has been on a serious fence mending tour lately.

  • T-Zone

Well, congrats to Hogan at least that he’s able to put his pride to the side.

Let me just be blunt here, as I usually try to be pretty PC with my comments. The only reason Hogan is doing this is because he isn’t getting enough money to live the extravagant lifestyle he wants to. TNA has failed to live up to what he thought it could and he wants to make sure that when he departs the organization in a year or two he has the financial ability and relationship with WWE to do so and never look back. If anything, I see this as a slap in the face to EVERY TNA fan, because Hogan puts no effort into marketing the brand he signed on for. Yes, you can blame Dixie and her lack of business sense and Spike’s refusal to market TNA unless they pair up with MMA such as Bellator, but to say that HH isn’t a draw is sorely mistaken. When I went to the sold out Impact Tapings in Jonesboro AR, 90% of the people I talked to had little knowledge of the TNA product’s history. Most of them had started watching in the last few months or were there to see Hogan and Sting. As much as I love TNA’s in ring product, as it reminds me of the territorial days with a modern flair, they are quickly showing that they are on their last legs. Letting Hogan in effect work for their competitor just shows badly they need leadership changes.
