I’ve always wanted to do a Dirt Sheet intro to this blog but since there’s no second person I can’t. Maybe for the Talent Exchange then. Anyway you know that this is One Night Blog. My Wednesday’s are jam packed between writing this and newspaper meetings but journalism can wait. ECW is where it’s at right now. Before we get into that let’s chat shall we?
I’m not one to talk about being a perfect role model, but what is up with the enigma? If you’ve been living in a cave lately Jeff Hardy was refused entry onto a flight because he was intoxicated. Now if he had been high we would have had a big problem. We’d have a different No Mercy main event. However he was drunk and got drunk at the right time. According to the WWE Wellness Policy if a superstar is intoxicated within 12 hours of a scheduled performance it will count as a strike (don’t quote me on that). Since Hardy had more than 12 hours he’s good. However he needs to be more careful. Remember its 1..2..3 strikes your out of the WWE. Hardy definitely listens to Kid Rock: Smoking funny things, sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking about tomorrow. But he won’t be singing Sweet Home Alabama.
Guys this is the last edition of ECW that’ll be airing at 10 p.m. ET. Starting next week it’ll start at 9. I’m usually in bed by 10 because of school and work next day so having it at 9 is better for me. I’ll get blogs up quicker.
Also next week SD! is moving to MyNetwork TV. If you don’t carry that station then either find a good guy on Youtube or ask Chris Jacks for the site he uses.
People sometimes ask Luke, Chris, and I (not sure about KB) why our blogs are up late sometimes. Here’s why: We watch the show, we write about it, put it into Notepad, paste that into a website where we apply the appropriate tags and tell what category it should be filed under, submit for review, Richard proofreads and approves it. Depending on the time we post it and Richard gets to it that’ll be the time it’s posted. So now you know.
Carpel Tunnel Syndrome kicking in. Enough ranting and let’s get on with ECW. Oh and I promised you an Anthony blog and your getting it.
ECW kicks off and we are welcomed to the show by Matt Striker and the Hall of Famer Jim Ross. Wow, I can tell this’ll be a great edition of ECW. Striker has established his own style of announcing and Ross is Ross.
Miz and Morrison come out to a chorus of boos. M&M seems furious over their losses to Evan Bourne and say that he only won due to interference. They then proceed to trash the entire new superstar Talent Initiative. They say that Teddy Long should be focusing on them instead of the locker room frosh. Long then comes out to say that all superstars who have been part of the new superstar initiative have made it big. Morrison brings up what everyone’s thinking and brings up Braden Walker. Poor Chris. M&M wanted Bourne but due to his beating last night their selling that he’s not there (even though this was taped on Sunday). Ricky Ortiz comes out and puts up a challenge. Long then says that M&M will face each other and the winner to immediately face Ortiz. Good opening segment. M&M are great on the mic and I don’t care what anybody says but Morrison is a great heel. I cant wait for this main event.
Backstage Ricky Ortiz talks with Long about this challenge he has tonight. Tiffany comes and says that h’ ready and then wears the Ricky O’Rally Towel around her neck. Pointless segment IMO.
Our first match is the hard hitting Irish Brawler: Finlay. His opponent is the biggest joke in WWE since Katie Vick: Bam Neely. Seriously if they wanted a bodyguard for Chavo make him somewhat intimidating. Bam is probably only 6’5 and is not that well built. I’m more afraid of my uncle then I am Bam, and my uncle is the most loving man I know. It looks like they want to put Bam in his own direction now as Chavo did not accompany him to the ring. This could mean the future endeavors wish for the border control agent. Let’s hope so. Finlay dominated Bam six eights of the match. When Neely was in control he didn’t look impressive. Finlay and Horny go through the usual antics. Finlay wins it with the why do I even try. After the match Finlay takes a few kids in the ring and they dance.
Next up is the biggest waste of our time tonight, Michelle McCool vs. Maryse. I know Smackdown and ECW still have this Talent Exchange going on but why have one brands feud on the other one. They had a pretty good match though last Friday considering it was a Diva match. This match was basically a repeat of the Smackdown match. It was a good Diva match but couldn’t we have had Bourne on?
Mark Henry comes out and cuts a promo on how he’s invincible. He says Hardy hasn’t pinned him and will never pin him. And that at No Mercy he will become champion again. Henry’s getting better on the mic.
I’ve never really had it but I always get my weekly helping of squash and this week’s no exception. Mike Knox will take on the newest ECW addition: Chase Stevens. I know a few people were pissed about me using the title, Jack Swagger vs. Jobber last week. You guys have to remember I don’t and have never watched TNA. As with any new person give me some matches to watch in the comment board. Knox dominated the entire match which makes this the second job match out of three matches we’ve had so far. After the match Jack Swagger finally tells us if he’s a heel or a face. He’s a heel. He attacks Stevens with his newest move. This guy is impressive. I see big things for him. After this Dreamer comes down and checks on Stevens. Knox distracts Dreamer allowing Swagger to hit Dreamer with his power bomb. I’m sick and tired of Dreamer being the new guy savior.
This might be the most enjoyable main event for me. Miz and Morrison are the future of the WWE. As soon as they disassemble they will start their roads as the an upper mid carder on the other two brands. This match was great. It was a great combination of mat wrestling and some fast paced action. Miz and Morrison aren’t afraid to work stiff and they proved it here. A lot of counter wrestling and new moves out of the two superstars. There seemed to be a lot of smirks on their faces as they worked over their partner which leads me to believe they might split apart. I hope not. End comes when Miz and Morrison are on the top rope and fall down. They both get counted out thus the match ending in no contest. I think this is good as it doesn’t hurt either’s credibility by being pinned. After the match Ricky Ortiz comes out and splashes both of them. I still think he needs a new finisher.
A lot of people might complain that the show was no good due to the lack of either Evan Bourne or ECW Champion Matt Hardy. But you know what I think this is? Sans Mark Henry this’ll be what an average WWE TV show is like once all the big names are gone. There’s going to be new people in the main event, new people being developed, and new names being made. I thought this was a great episode of ECW and gets an 8/10. That’s all for this week. Remember that if you want to watch ECW live next week tune in at 9 not 10. Also for the reason why this is late check my pre show notes.

Bourne was held off the show to sell his match with Kane from Monday (even though it happened after ECW was taped). And since the time was used for a good match and to continue an angle, I have no complaints.

How good were JR and Striker together. They were much better than JR and Tazz
September 25th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
I enjoyed the show but that’s becoming a norm for Tuesday night. I’m not sure how I feel about the move to 9 pm, I have to rearrange some of my viewing habits but since House comes on at 8, I think I’ll be ok.
Love M&M as always. I agree that Ricky Ortiz needs a new finisher. That splash is gay (no offense to anyone out there).
I don’t understand why they had the Divas wrestle but the match was decent. Always up for seeing Maryse on tv, but why is Michelle smiling so much now? She got planted on her head and she’s smiling. Grimace, dammit!
Bam stinks. Swagger is awesome. Poor Dreamer. Where’s Super Crazy?

good blog dude. enjoyed very much as always. morrison is the future.

Anthony you rock and so do your blogs. I’ll go as far as to say you’re my favorite WNW blogger! Miz n Morrison delivered big in the main event and that’s got to be good for their respective futures in WWE. I think Evan Bourne will be the next face to be ECW champion (after someone?? beats Hardy).
September 25th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
You guys rock and are the reason I stay here on WNW. As long as you guys keep supporting me I’ll keep blogging.
Chris- I forgot about the whole Kane and Bourne thing.
Richard- I agree. I feel that Matt Striker’s gimmick with using all the SAT like words complimented J.R. quite nicely.
Shane- If you cant be home by Nine. DVR. Greatest invention for TV. I agree that sometimes WWE superstars are way too happy. Like Kofi losing the IC title and then coming on RAw
Chris Jacks- Morrison is the Future.
Future- Bourne might, MIGHT, have to wait in line behind Finlay. Plus I feel it’s possible, although, I hopen not that he might go to RAW to work with Rey. Morrison or Miz most likely.
September 25th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
i very much want Bourne to go to Raw and team with Rey. they can become a tag team for a while. We all know Rey isn’t getting a world title shot for the forseeable future. The tag division needs participants and Bourne and Rey looked great when the tagged a few weeks back.
after Henry, Hardy is probably going to face the Caveman Mike Knox or Finlay. But if MnM are going to stay on Tuesday nights, hopefully Miz or Morrison will get ECW title shots. Those 2 have had great matches with Matt.

wow a positive blog which is always nice to see.
JR and Striker sounded like the smartest and most knowledgeable announce team I’ve heard in forever.
Maryse is fine to see on tv but I agree, they got rid of divas on ECW cause the show was short on time and found out it was a waste on the show, I think they should continue with the format of no divas.
The Finlay match was actually cool to watch cause it looked like he was stiffing Bam pretty much the whole match anybody else notice that.
The tag team scence is about to be all about Punk and his partner taking in Priceless.
Don’t forget the Miz is a pretty good heel also. And it looks like he is upping his game in the last few weeks so when these 2 do split he isn’t put into limbo.
I think ECW could use a few more guys why not send London and Chuck P. over so they can prove themselves before they are let go. Chuck can go face again and fued with Knox/Mark Henry and London can work with most of the ECW roster.

good blog, but there was 1 thing missing to it… my poll. so for this week’s “One Night Poll” the question is: DO YOU THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE THE ESTABLISHED WORKERS (Finlay, MH, MH2, etc.) IN ECW OR SHOULD IT ONLY BE THE YOUNG, NEW WORKERS? IMO you should have 1 established worker that to keep ratings, have him dominant, and when you want to push a worker put them over him.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:39 am
tell you what next time we do the talent exchange we can do a dirt sheet intro but only if I can make up a morrisonesque line lol
September 26th, 2008 at 8:37 am
That question is faulty from he get go and can’t be decided upon. Nobody just out right cares about the new guys just fueding with each other and guys fueding with each other every other fued isn’t that fun to watch. The balance they have now is nice. Its very hard for one person to keep ratings going and if they are burying the new guys everytime how good does that look for them and if you have a few guy beat this established star hows that going to make them look after a few loses even if they new guys use under handed tactics?
September 26th, 2008 at 11:08 am
see, i forgot to mention that’s considering the talent exchange, so that the young guys will get exposure, and have them work with the RAW crew so that it does remain interesting. also you can have the established worker bury RAW jobbers. that’s what i meant. i met people that agree with my oppinion, and met people that agree with your oppinion. that’s what the ONP is for - to have a discussion. anyway, considering the talent exchange which i forgot to mention. (without it i agree the way it is right now is good)
September 26th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I agree with Kinjaj saying there should be a good balance. But there does need to be a little more focus on the young guys. But have people like Dreamer in the storylines.

Good ECW this week despite me not having slept for 32 hours. I liked it.
Miz and Morrison were pure gold on the mic. Miz is actually slightly better than Morrison on the stick. Or to be fair, he has a more “enthusiastic” flair to his promos, whereas Morrison’s are more cerebral. Not much heat for them all things considered though. But if there’s something that’s hard, it’s being a funny high-flyer heel and trying to get heat. Trust me.
Finlay always delivers and managed to carry the dead weight by the name of Bam Neely through a nice brawl. Bam Neely like the aforementioned Braden Walker (by Miz and Morrison in the promo, not me playa) will have many endeavours in his future.
Friday’s McCool vs. Maryse was a damn fine Divas match if I may so myself. I liked it. Tuesday’s match though wasn’t as good for whatever reason. Nice to see Maryse win one, she’s definitely improving every week, if a bit slowly. Meh, I want her for Divas champ rather than “Loving Life” McCool (check out WrestleCrap this week and get the joke.) But all in all, it wasn’t as good as good as the one on last friday’s SD.
You were wrong Anthony, the Knox vs. Cat Stevens, err, Yusuf Islam match was the biggest waste of time on Tuesday’s ECW. Well, I say useless, but I actually had a nice little snore during this sleep-inducing piece of crap. I loved the finish though, nice to see Jack SWAGGAHHHHH’s true alignment being confirmed. I say that this guy has skills and is definitely the second best Talent Initiative guy after Bourne. Hell, he could even best Bourne if he keeps improving. Keep watching this guy SWAGGAHHH (sorry I’m such a mark for Striker’s commentary - Cole, go kill yourself right now because you suck so much compared to Striker…) he could go far.
Miz and Morrison was a great, great, GREAT match. Miz actually was the most impressive guy in the match, he’s like the Cinderella Chick Magnet Man - going from a nobody to one of the best mid-carders in one and a half years. Hated the finish though…Ortiz’ finisher has to go. But his charisma is pretty good, I’ll give him that.

Overall, I was adequately satisfied in that I loved it, even if it had its Knox, err, pitfalls. Oh yeah….SWAGGAHHHHH!!!!
9/10
