Hey everyone and welcome to this very special Pay Per View predictions blog that I am doing solo due to the fact that Anthony is currently enjoying the sunny weather in Australia. Fear not the Talent Exchange will be back for Summer Slam! I am doing this one slightly different to usual in order to give you the usual bumper blog you would get from The Talent Exchange.
Every WWE Pay Per View has delivered so far this year with only the Royal Rumble being a slight disappointment in my eyes so I am expecting nothing different here, last years event was built almost entirely around the so called “dream match” between John Cena and Bobby Lashley and in my opinion that did not really live up to expectations so without further ado here come my picks.
United States Championship Match: Matt Hardy © vs Shelton Benjamin
The Build Up
This match was very much added to the card at the last minute. Shelton gave a strong showing in the July 4th Fatal Four Way match and then continued his momentum with a clean win over Matt on Smackdown the following week. However the rivals were then separated due to the wedding shenanigans this past week and the only mention this match got was a brief confirmation that it was taking place by JR on commentary.
The Match
The match itself should be very good. Both of these guys are incredibly talented in ring performers. The problem with Shelton is that he has all the charisma of a dead fish. However when in comes to talent that is no doubt that he could mix it up with the very best in WWE. The one on one match between the two on Smackdown was solid and I believe this would be the perfect show opener with plenty of high spots and near falls to get the crowd going. Matt Hardy always performs and has had a solid if not overly spectacular run so far as US champion.
The Outcome
I think it is too early for Matt to be dropping this title just yet especially seeing as how it now seems to be based on ECW and I expect it to remain there for the near future. So I am going with: Matt Hardy to retain
The Aftermath
I expect Matt to go on to feud with either the Miz or John Morrison for the belt on ECW whilst Shelton I think will go on to work a program with Jeff Hardy on Smackdown. Both of which should be awesome!
Fatal Four Way For The WWE Tag Team Championship: Team Morrison © vs Jesse and Festus vs Finlay and Hornswoggle vs The Edgeheads
The Build Up
This match is another one that just seems to have been added to the card to get more guys involved. As far as I am aware this is not an elimination rules fatal four way which is a shame. The reason for the match seems to be that Miz and Morrison have beaten everyone in their path and therefore must face the entire tag division at once. Team Morrison had a good match against Jesse and Festus this week on Smackdown and Finlay and Hornswoggle have been consistently winning on ECW, The Edgeheads have become somewhat of a joke and I see them being in this match as the guys to get pinned.
The Match
Any match involving John Morrison is going to be good simply because he is such an outstanding athlete. I am also very high on Festus who I believe is one of the most unique wrestlers on the current roster. This should be a very fast paced affair with plenty of action and dirty tactics employed by the heels. Hopefully it will be given enough time as all of the guys involved (with the exception of Hornswoggle) are good performers.
The Outcome
I love the team of Morrison and Miz. I do not think any of the teams involved are good enough to take the belts off them one on one. However since this is a fatal four way match I am expecting to see a title change take place here. I think Finlay will be distracting the champs allowing Jesse and Festus to win the belts by pinning the Edgeheads. Jesse and Festus are incredibly over on Smackdown and provide very unique viewing. I really hope creative keep the belts away from Hornswoggle and this is the last time we see him involved in any kind of title match. So I am going with: New WWE Tag Team Champions: Jesse and Festus
The Aftermath
I think this will be the beginning of the end of the tag team of John Morrison and The Miz as WWE begins to push them as singles stars. Jesse and Festus will take the belts back to Smackdown and feud with the tag teams there whilst Finlay and Hornswoggle will continue to create “comedy” on ECW. And as for the Edgeheads they will continue to job to everyone left right and centre which is a shame because they are both pretty solid wrestlers.
ECW Title Match: Mark Henry © vs Tommy Dreamer
The Build Up
This match has been built up very well on ECW. Tommy Dreamer represents everything that was good about the original ECW and deserves this spot in a pay per view. When he speaks and calls out Henry you can really relate to the fire and passion in his voice for what has been done to his beloved company. This rivalry is intense and the addition of Tony Atlas has made it personal for Tommy Dreamer.
The Match
Unfortunatly I do not think we are going to get a classic here. This would have been much better off being an extreme rules match although I feel they may hold this off till Summer Slam. This will probably be a quick one with Henry looking like a dominant and powerful champion in his first Pay Per View Defence. I certainly expect Tony Atlas and Colin Delaney to play a part in this match. I would not be at all surprised if Atlas did not start beating on Colin allowing Henry to take advantage of a distracted Dreamer.
The Outcome
It is too early for Mark Henry to drop the belt and when he does so I do not think it will be to Dreamer unfortunately. I do not think this will be a squash victory by any means and I expect Tommy to give a good account of himself and remind us why he was known as the “Innovator of Violence” So I am going with: Mark Henry to retain
The Aftermath
I hope this feud continues culminating in an extreme rules encounter at Summer Slam. Dreamer at least deserves a spot in some high profile matches due to the tremendous amount of work he puts in week in week out for WWE. Henry has potential to have a strong run as champion if he is booked correctly and I think the addition of Atlas will help him tremendously.
NYC Parking Lot Brawl: John Cena vs JBL
The Build Up
This match has been booked very well by WWE creative. The rivalry between Cena and JBL is intense and you really believe that these two hate each other. The build up between Cena and Cryme Time causing problems for JBL has been very good although it has come off slightly goofy at times. It was finally good to see JBL get some advantage over his long time rival this past week on RAW and the six man tag match was excellent. In a sense this match has had better build than the Heavyweight Title match as both Cena and JBL have dominated RAW to varying degrees of success recently. I thought Cena’s serious promo was excellent and much better than the suck up kiddy crap he normally comes out with. Bring back Mr Ruthless Aggression and we will have ourselves someone that we can all relate too!
The Match
Oh yes there will be blood! This match is going to be one of the most brutal encounters seen in WWE for some time. A technical master class this will not be, but I fully expect a good old fashioned brawl and I think I will enjoy it very much. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cryme Time and Maybe Rhodes and Dibiase show up to interfere. Expect plenty of big bumps into cars, trucks and concrete, also the use of whatever weapons these guys can get their hands on. Its going to be brutal! What I DO NOT want to see is JBL dominate for the whole match only for Cena to hit the FU from nowhere for the win, that would suck!
The Outcome
It remains to be seen whether WWE will ever put JBL over Cena on Pay Per View but I think now would be the perfect time to do so. This feud is far from over and in order to get some much needed credibility back for his character JBL needs a big win here. It will not hurt Cena to take a loss especially if it is done in an underhand fashion. So I am going with: JBL for the win
The Aftermath
I do not see this as the end of the feud which is why it would be a perfect time to put JBL over. I see them continuing this rivalry all the way to Summer Slam and possibly beyond especially with the addition of Cryme Time and Rhodes and DiBiase this has the potential to be one of the most intense rivalries of the year. I cannot predict what sort of match they will have at Summer Slam but my preference would be a three on three Hell In A Cell.
Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho
The Build Up
This is defiantly a candidate for feud of the year in my opinion. Every single time these two have clashed either via promo or in the ring it has been intense, powerful stuff. The rivalry has been them has been told so well on RAW and also past Pay Per Views. Michaels has seriously over sold his eye injury in past weeks and I certainly hope to see no repeat of this tonight. Jericho has become such an impressive heel, hell bent on the destruction of HBK and with the addition of Lance Cade at his side he has become a force to be reckoned with.
The Match
I expect a match of the year candidate here without a doubt. This certainly has the potential to steal the show considering how much history and animosity there is between the two. Lance Cade will defiantly be involved in some shape or form and after the events of RAW this past week I would not be surprised to see Paul London in HBK’s corner. Should be plenty of high spots, near falls and great wrestling here to really get the fans going. I cannot wait to see this one unfold.
The Outcome
Michaels has beaten Jericho every time they have clashed on Pay Per View however tonight I expect to see that come to an end. The force of Jericho and Cade will prove too much for HBK this time and whilst I expect it to be a very close fought match I expect to see Jericho pick up the win albeit in an underhand fashion. So I am going with: Chris Jericho for the win
The Aftermath
This amazing feud should continue and culminate in one final blow off match at Summer Slam. Other than CM Punk and Kane, this feud is the most enjoyable part of RAW right now and does not deserve to end at a so called B Pay Per View. Expect Cade and possibly London to play a more predominant role in the feud as it continues.
WWE Championship Match: CM Punk © vs Batista
The Build Up
The build up for this match has not been great. WWE got off to such a great start Punk winning the belt and then Batista winning the fatal four way. However I think the way Batista took out Punk so easily with the Spinebuster was a bad move and having Punk struggle so much against Kane (more on him shortly) was also a bad move. That being said seeing CM Punk as champion is fantastic and the fact he is extremely over with the crowd can only be a good sign.
The Match
This has the potential to be a let down, It strikes me as the kind of match Batista will maybe not give his all for as he has done in the past. However if he brings his A game we will have a classic. Punk always performs even against the likes of Snitsky he still comes off looking very good. What I expect to see happen in this match is a hard fought battle with possibly Batista about to pick up the win when Kane comes out and takes out both guys, reaches into his bag, pulls out his mask and BANG his pyro hits and he walks out. That would be the perfect ending for me seeing as how I am a big Kane fan and have been loving his deranged antics on RAW.
The Outcome
So with my predicted interference from Kane I see Punk retaining here. If I was booking this I would have Punk beat Batista clean to cement him as a credible champion but with Kane’s antics on RAW I just don’t see that happening and by having him cost Batista the title it keeps him a strong challenger. So I am going with: No contest due to Kane interference (CM Punk retains)
The Aftermath
I see this feud continuing with the addition of Kane setting up a big triple threat main event between the three at Summer Slam. CM Punk deserves more than a three week reign as champion and a three way feud for a main title involving Kane is good stuff especially if he is back to his dominant masked self. I want to see more of Punk on the mic as he has proved in past weeks that he is very strong when Cena is not interrupting him!
Battle for the new Diva’s Championship: Natalya vs Michelle McCool
The Build Up
This match has been built extremely well. The rivalry between these two has been brewing for weeks, intensifying as Michelle won the second Golden Dreams match. Both girls have proved that they are both very talented in ring performers beating off competition from the other divas on the roster to become the undisputed two top divas on Smackdown. Natalya has impressed me so much since her debut and I am looking for a strong performance from her tonight.
The Match
This should be as good as any match we have seen involving Beth Phoenix. Natalya has so much ability and I am expecting this one to come down to a battle of the submission holds as Natalya has been implementing the sharpshooter to great effect whilst Michelle has developed her own submission style. I am so glad that WWE is giving us proper women’s wrestling these days and I am very excited to see this match.
The Outcome
Whilst Michelle is an impressive performer, Natalya is the next big thing to hit the women’s division and I fully expect her to be crowned Diva’s Champion tonight. The belt is even done in Hart Foundation colours! A close fought contest this will certainly be but Natalya will end up locking in that Sharpshooter for the victory and the title. So I am going with: New Diva’s Champion Natalya
The Aftermath
I expect a long and dominant reign for Natalya as Divas Champion. I imagine they will continue this feud for awhile, at least until Summer Slam seeing as how the next best face diva on Smackdown: Cherry, is not quite ready to step up to Natalya’s level just yet.
WWE Championship Match: Triple H © vs Edge
The Build Up
What build up? you may ask and rightly so! I cannot remember the last time that a championship match was booked as poorly as this. We have not had so much as an in ring confrontation between the two since this match was announced and that is not good. The closet thing to a build was Triple H ruining Edge and Vickie’s wedding reception on Smackdown the other day and something tells me that will play a key role in tonight’s match.
The Match
The match itself should be very good. These guys have never clashed one on one on Pay Per View to my knowledge so it is certainly something different. Both are two of the top performers in WWE and will be more than capable of giving us a 5 star match. I expect significant interference from Vickie here to try and ruin her “husbands” big match due to his sleazy antics on Smackdown. It should be packed full of near falls, counters and high spots to really send the crowd home on a high. It defiantly could have been hyped more though!
The Outcome
When I thought Edge was going it alone as a strong heel I was convinced he would be winning this match. However now with Vickie and probably the rest of La Famillia gunning for him I think this will prove to much for the Rated R Superstar and we will see a successful title defence from Triple H. I would not be surprise to see Vickie really screw Edge here and cost him the match. So I am going with: Triple H to retain
The Aftermath
This feud has almost been a non event on Smackdown so I am presuming this is just the beginning of it. Now Edge has been exposed as a cheat he will break off from Vickie and his crew and chase Triple H solo for a big showdown at Summer Slam where the Rated R Era may finally be re-started. We may even see the return of the Rated R Spinner belt as well!
So there you have it. My predictions for what should be a very solid night of wrestling action. I will be back next weekend with Chris Reviews Smackdown where I will also be discussing my thoughts on The Bash. Be sure to let me know your picks and opinions via the comment board or drop me an email to: a_agreement_called_forever@hotmail.com
Until next time The Rated R Era is on temporary hold!

Well, I gotta say the build up to the Bash has been very so-and-so. Some of the feuds are interesting, while some are not, and others are predictable and barely pass as “feuds” at all. But again, as with every PPV, everything can happen and it may be another great one. Hell, it ain’t called the “Great” American Bash for nothing.

Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin has had extremely little build. We all know that Sisqo Benjamin is as charismatic as a wooden log, but as far as athleticism goes, there’s no doubt that he’s one of WWE’s top guys. Too bad WWE don’t care about that (see; John Cena). Matt Hardy has had a very disappointing run as US Champion in my eyes, but I fully expect him to retain. It could be good, I guess.

MNM vs. Jesse & Festus, Ryder & Hawkins and Finlay & Hornswoggle is the one I’ll be dreading the most. Miz and Morrison have elevated the WWE Tag Team Championship division to one of the best tag team divisions in recent history, and them dropping the titles will not benefit anybody. The only one I could accept them dropping the titles to are Jesse & Festus, who have proven to be a great tag team since the get-go. Hell, it’s better than giving it to the midget or the jobber team. But most of all I’d prefer Miz and Morrison to win.

We all know Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer is not gonna go Dreamer’s way sadly. Although Mark Henry has been a better ECW Champion so far than Kane (it didn’t take a whole lot of effort to beat that magnanimous failure…) I’d really prefer someone who’s actually entertaining to have it. Dreamer’s busted his ass for wrestling all his life, and WWE give him the jobber position. I don’t get it. Although I want to see Dreamer beat Mark Henry, it ain’t gonna happen.
_______________________________________
I really don’t give too much of a crap about JBL vs. Cena, because they’re most likely gonna run the Superman routine. An extreme match like that should feature only performers of the highest quality, and neither of these guys pass that requirement. As long as Cena gets a beating, it’s all good.
_______________________________________
Michaels and Jericho have always worked phenomenally together, as is evident in their Judgment Day encounter. It was a gem in a mediocre PPV event. This has the potential to be as good, if not even better. HBK is unable to wrestle a bad match, and neither is Jericho if put together with the right guy. I expect this to be one of the best matches on the card, although what with all the jobbing Y2J has done recently, he really deserves to go over Michaels this time.

Punk vs. Batista has gotten some of the worst match build treatment I’ve seen in a long time. Since the get-go, Punk has been booked to look like a weak champion and unless something magical (read: Heel turn) happens here, I don’t think Punk’s reign will last the night. Punk is an exceedingly boring face, so I really hope they go with an aforementioned heel turn as his heel work in ROH was some of the best I’ve ever seen. Batista has sort of redeemed himself in recent times in my eyes, and I wouldn’t be half as pissed to see him as champion as I would have been in the past. I want Punk to win, but if his reign continues the same way, I think it’s better to drop it before it gets started.
_______________________________________
Michelle vs. Natalya has the potential to be a really good women’s match. While I’m not a big fan of Ms. McCool, she’s a great athlete and one of the better female wrestlers of SD!. Natalya is one of the most impressive females (in more than one way…GIGGITY!) I’ve ever seen in wrestling, and the only good way to do this is to give her a dominant reign with the new Divas Championship (it looks cool…well, sort of anyway). Natalya is the future eh!
_______________________________________
The build for Triple H vs. Edge has been untraditional, yet effective. It’s been a more cerebral feud, finally leading into the physical tonight. I fully expect this to be a great match, as I’ve gotten over my childish Edge-hate in recent months and now recognize him as one of WWE’s best performers. Triple H’s WWE Championship reign has been a bit lackluster, as Triple H is always the most effective as a heel and is basically useless as a face. It would be awesome to see Edge get the title, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen quite yet. Triple H’s gonna win.
_______________________________________
All in all, the Bash has the potential to be a great PPV event, and will of course be worth every penny I’m not gonna pay to download it. And I won’t be able to see it until tomorrow of course. But either way, I expect it to be good!

What about this for a possiblity: Edge cheating was a trick Edge and Vickie came up with. Remember, HHH said he never saw the tape before he showed it… When Vickie comes out, supposidly to get back at Edge, she helps Edge win the belt!

WOW what a strong card and I agree with all of your predictions. I just hope to GOD Horny and Finlay don’t get the belts. I know damn well Miz and Morrison are going to drop the belts tonight. Jesse and Festus ftw. Hell every match looks to be entertaining and Like u Chris I hope Kane gets his mask back tonight and unleashes hell on Batista and CM Punk. This match could be great to all those doubters out there. Just a thought. I hope CM Punk becomes entertaining as a face. I’ll have to watch the Bash tomorrow since my Satellites not working right now and I feel a little pissed. Well at least it’ll be fixed by tomorrow morning!
July 20th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Oh yeah and I am also EXTREMELY happy at the fact that except the Raw mid card titles all the other titles in WWE are being defended. Maybe Vince has finally knocked some sense into himself!!! And I expect Cena and JBL to be great and bloody. If its a superman routine that’ll truly blow.
July 20th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
WHAAAAAT???/ THE EDGE HEADS ARE THE NEW CHAMPS??? NO FRIKING WAY THATS SUX!!!!!!!! And Shelton winning twice is another surprise. I hope this feud continues and its good to see Shelton getting the push he deserves. Now only to get some more charisma.
