WWE will hold their No Mercy pay-per-view Sunday night from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
World Heavyweight Championship
Ladder Match
Chris Jericho © vs. Shawn Michaels
This feud is easily embarking on one of the best rides and it’s a potential Feud of the Year winner. It’s been an intricate twist throughout the past few months. As I said in my RAW is Blogged, I thought the match choices could have been handled differently. Either way, I’m expecting a bloody and exciting show. With Michaels as the “innovator” of the Ladder match and Jericho able to pull off damn near anything, I expect this to be great. I also expect Jericho to win since Michaels won their “unsanctioned” match last month. I can’t really do much more previewing for this match. I’m expecting greatness.
My Projected Winner: Chris Jericho
WWE Championship
Triple H © vs. Jeff Hardy
I have to admit that like the Undertaker-Big Show feud, I haven’t seen much of this one. However, I would have a hard time believing that Triple H would put over Jeff Hardy. He’ll get to the big time but this won’t be the time he gets the belt. As far as Triple H is concerned, he’s running the show on Smackdown. So for him to lose, it would take a miracle. I’ve read about the rise of Vladimir Kozlov. I don’t agree with it but Vince will always have a hard on for big guys. I figure this will be the bullshit finish of the night with Kozlov interfering or farting or something to cause the referee to inexplicably ring the damn bell and cheat the fans out of a finish. Then again, I may be wrong but I’ve been batting 1.000 in being right as of late.
My Projected Winner: Triple H
ECW Championship
Matt Hardy © vs. Mark Henry
I don’t look for Matt Hardy to lose the belt although I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. Henry was built up pretty good in ECW but Hardy is supposed to get the John Morrison treatment. There’s no question that Hardy is ready for the big time. He’s got the promos. He’s got the work ability. He’s got the fan support most Superstars dream about. Matt Hardy is ready.
My Projected Winner: Matt Hardy
Women’s Championship
Beth Phoenix © vs. Candice Michelle
I’ll keep this short and sweet. Candice Michelle is nowhere near the wrestler Mickie James, Jillian Hall, Melina, nor any of the other half-way decent Divas are. I’ve been saying it all along that she doesn’t need to be in a title feud. She’s not fluent in the ring like the other Divas are. Beth on the other hand is a force. She’s basically a smaller and sexier version of Awesome Kong. She better retain or the product will continue to become dull.
My Projected Winner: Beth Phoenix
#1 Contender’s Match: World Heavyweight Championship
JBL vs. Batista
Most of us know of Batista’s dissatisfaction with being a lower-main-event guy. When I hear stuff like that, it just pisses me the hell off. It’s like that wide receiver who’s averaging a TD catch a game yet he’s still bitching. It ticks me off that he’s so selfish that he doesn’t want anybody else in the main event. That’s not very nice! A few weeks ago, I blasted Shawn Michaels for being “content” with where he’s at. Batista is the opposite as he wants to move up. However, if you can’t let other guys have a chance to succeed in the main spot, I have no use for you. With that said, I hope JBL wins. I’m tired of Batista being in the title picture. It’s time he stay out for a while.
My Projected Winner: JBL
Mask Match
Rey Mysterio vs. Kane
I hate this storyline. It started off good with Kane and his mask. I figured they would put a mask back on Kane. Involving Rey Mysterio caught me by surprise. Now, this has turned into the Kevin Nash-Rey Mysterio feud which ended with Mysterio having to take off his mask. If Rey loses this match and has to unmask, the WWE might as well come out and tell us the ending of every match before hand. It would be stupid on their part. How many kids do you see each week with Mysterio Masks on? An assload. About as many kids wearing his mask as kids with toy spinner belts. I just hope they do some angle, either with Rey or somebody else, to get Kane his mask back. Even though they’re building him back up, “older” fans like myself won’t take him that seriously because we’ve seen him torn down since he lost his mask.
My Projected Winner: Rey Mysterio
The Undertaker vs. The Big Show
I really haven’t watched this feud unless it was recapped on RAW or ECW. Quite frankly, I’ll never see Smackdown again because of the network change. The reason I haven’t seen it is I’m a coach for a high school football team and we play on Friday night, the same night Smackdown used to air on the CW. From what I’ve seen, the decision to turn Show back heel was right on. He’s much better as a heel. As far as the Undertaker’s concerned, his feud with Vickie Guerrero just doesn’t do too much for me, mainly because it’s been going on way too long. I hope he’ll pick up the victory here and move on to something better, like a feud with Montel Vontavious Porter…M…V…P.
My Projected Winner: The Undertaker
Hopefully this will be a good PPV. I hope WWE can deliver a great event. I’m glad to be back writing for WNW. I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Looks like we all pretty much have the same thoughts on the PPV. I would be majorly shocked if Henry won it back. Your not missing much with Undertaker and Big Shows. Sucks you dont get SD! anymore.

I think Candice is decent, and the other girls you mentioned are quite good. However, I’m fine with Candice getting this shot as Mickie vs. Beth has been done and done and done again. Plus, the only other babyface right now is Kelly, who they have all the time in the world to push.
I doubt Candice will win the title as they’ve not really played up the revenge angle. I really don’t know why they haven’t constantly shown video packages of Candice getting hurt with promos by Beth mocking her while Candice promises revenge. I think this feud could be bigger because it has a ready-made backstory, but WWE just isn’t playing it up.

“However, I would have a hard time believing that Triple H would put over Jeff Hardy.”
I thought that in his last big push that Jeff got put over by Trips. Can’t remember to clearly, but I thought at the time that it was obvious HHH had real respect for Jeff.
Doubt he’ll drop the belt tonight though.

I hope Jeff doesnt win this time, Im saving my money and waiting for right ppv and the huge buildup towards him winning.

i enjoyed reading ur work as i always do Luke. And I agree with the Batista being selfish part but I still don’t think Batista will lose. Both men have been in or around the title pic since being moved to Raw and it sucks. Batista needs to go take a break for like 2 months. JBL needs to go down to midcard, announce, or manage.

I’m getting tired of seeing Beth with the women’s title they really need to find someone to give her a challenge, she keeps faceing either Micki James or Kelly Kelly or Candice , maybe they should bring Victoria or Natellia (or how ever you spell her name) Hart over to RAW yes both are heels but both have the wrestling background to challenge for the title and I wouldn’t mind seeing two heel women fight for the title.
The Triple H /Hardy match will be good but I don’t see Hardy wining at this time of course if he doesn’t win that just proves Triple H’s point that Hardy all ways fails at the big Matchs, which Triple H may or may not point out on Raw the next night.
I hope the Undertaker/Big Show/ Vicki storyline ends at this pay-per-view. They need to Have Undertaker move on and fight someone else.
Rey Mysterio vs. Kane: Like most of you I was disapointed that Kane didn’t put his mask back on and become the monster he was when he debuted. They way they handled the whole angle was dumb, I mean Rey is supposed to be hurt and he comes back well and after a supposed Kane attack, Rey must be getting tips from Cena on how to heal quickly. No I don’t think Rey will lose the mask that was done before with Nash. I see Rey going over Kane but then Kane destroying Rey after the match.
JBL vs. Batista: I don’t want to see JBL win, but now I don’t wish to see Batista win after hearing him whine and complain how he is not higher on the card and treated better in WWE, he is supposed to be a professional and he has had more then his far share of being champ and in the title hunt. so needless to say I don’t care about this match and I lost some respect for Batista.
Chris Jericho © vs. Shawn Michaels: Jericho mentioned he has been in at least one more ladder match then Shawn Michaels, he had been in a lest three of them…(if I remember correctly), if true well no that is not tree they both would have had the smae number of Ladder matches, I remember Shawn Faced Bret in a Ladder match for the IC title in a house show taped for home video when Sheri was his manager, and he faced Scott Hall/Razor Ramon two times once at Wrestlemaina 10 and then later at Summer Slam that year. so that is three total.
but dispite the history leason I feel this will be a good match and in the end Jericho will retain but just barely, if Shawn does win it will be a short reign at this stage of his career his body is to beat up. plus if he did win and later we find out he has torn that injury more well that puts him on the shelf for a long time.
I remember Richard Grey questioning Shawn being in this match to begin with ,with a small injury and risking more damage to it Yes it is a big risk and while the smart thing to do would be to rest and heal completely, but wiether it is Shawn or not any of the wrestlers they won’t do that and none of them are smart and do the right thing they enjoy wrestling and being in the spotlight and sitting home on the couch they don’t wish to do that.
For Example years ago Bret Hart was reported to have been sick had a fevor having a high fevor and the smart thing to do would have been to sit home and get well but no he faced the Mountie defended his IC title and he lost..Yes he shouldn’t have defended it and stayed home but being the type person he was that wasn’t a opition he was scheduled to appear at a event and honored that even though he was sick as a dog he still wrestled. Cena last year was injuryed and not supposed to be back untill around Wrestlemania but He came back at The Royal Rumble and was only out a month or two when he should have been out longer he was risking firther injury coming back early.. that is just the way the wrestlers are, they are not worried about themselves they want to preform before the crowds is that smart? probably not but it is what they do. wrestle healthy or injuryed…
As far as I know no one who plays Baseball or Football (both boring sports I don’t watch to begin with) continues to play when injuryed they stay home and recooperate. Wrestling is entertainment and pre-determined ect ect, but they can still be hurt and they still wrestle injuryed or not.

If JBL wins, then there is probably going to be a triple threat at Cyber Sunday and I guarantee you, Batista will be one of the choices to face up against JBL and Y2J.

Umm, patrick, HHH is on Smackdown, not raw
“I’m getting tired of seeing Beth with the women’s title they really need to find someone to give her a challenge, she keeps faceing either Micki James or Kelly Kelly or Candice”
They ought to scrap the 2 women titles and just have the Divas battle over the women championship from all 3 brands

Thank you for pointing out the mistake I made, my fault.
October 5th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
candice actually had a good match best divas match in a while.
October 5th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
I’m all hyped up for the HBK-Jericho ladder match.
October 5th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Is MVP going to raw
October 5th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
My god the end of the ladder match was one of those edge of your seat moments. Holy crap.
October 5th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Like RVD said, Candice did really good tonight. At the end of the ladder match it had you wandering if maybe just MAYBE Michaels might win. It was AWESOME!
October 5th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Indeed Jake. Though the way I was seeing the ending was HBK loseing his grip and Jericho falling to the mat with the belt. Btw, anyone notice that when the ref got in the ring to help Jericho up he caused the ladder to fall off the rope and back into Jerichos face? Bad enough he lost a tooth.
