By Anthony O'Reilly on July 23rd, 2008
Ladies and Gentlemen. You see I may hail from New York City, but today I come back home to WrestlingNewsWorld.com to take my rightful spot as the writer of One Night Blog. Luke can go do his little Raw blogs, but nobody will ever be as good as I am. I can promise you that Luke will never write ONB ever again. Tonight you are treated because I have returned. I am Misterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr O’Reilly. O’Reilly. Sorry just had to do that. Kennedy mark here. Yes I am back as promised and I am here to give you all the actions of tuesday night wrestling. In all seriousness I once again thank Luke for covering ECW last week. Australian hotels don’t give as wide of a selection of channels as America does. So I’m not nearly caught up on all the happenings of the WWE Universe. However my brothers filled me in on the majors so let’s get on with it.
First off I want briefly discuss some parts of the GAB. Firstly I think it’s great that we have a NEW United States Champion. Did Hardy get the reign he deserved? No. However Hardy could have a much better run by leading the ECW brand as their champion. Back to Shelton, I think he really deserves this and I hope he gets a major push on Smackdown. It looks like M&M’s reign is over. But seriously, and I can’t believe I’m saying this; Horny and Finlay deserved those more than Ryder and Hawkins. Why do I say this? Well since becoming Edge heads R&H really aren’t over. As previously said their job run- in guys. At least Team Ireland gets a reaction. Colin turning heel was really unpredictable. HBK and Chris Jericho’s feud is really picking up. Feud of the year so far. I think that they should have a blindfold match because of the eye injury. Kane is getting meaner and meaner and WWE’s trust in the reign of Punk is still shaky. I’m not even going to talk about Cena and JBL’s piece of trash (I’ll talk about Cena next week). Trips retaining is predictable. Congratulations to Michelle McCool on being the first Diva Champion. Pays when you’re doing Taker. And that’s about it.
I think Time Warner Cable put it right when they put the preview for Smackdown as: Another Classic WWE Wedding. And of course we know that means that… they didn’t get married. There were rumors going around that Edge would cheat on Vickie with the planner and I’m glad they went with it. I think Edge is better when he has a sexy valet to actually accompany him to the ring. Like he was with Lita. I like what happened between them on Smackdown and Vickie’s… um reaction if you will. For those aching to know go read the SD! spoilers.
One small detail I want to quickly discuss is Beth Phoenix. After kissing Santino on Raw I can see her becoming a Chyna like bodyguard. I say this because I know they’ve been looking for a bodyguard for Santino. Just thought I’d say that.
I’m still adjusting to American time right now. For those who care NYC and Sydney are 14 hours apart. Yeah so I’m screwed up in the head. However without further ado I know give you this week’s episode of ECW.
Our show opens up with the announcement of a Fatal Four Way to take place between Miz, Morrison, Finlay, and Matt Hardy.
Teddy Long welcomes us to the show standing next to the new ECW Championship belt. It looks like a silver version of the diva belt without the butterflies. And their doing this in Philly too. The birthplace of ECW. I just got a whiff of irony. Long brings out Spandex King along with Tony Atlas. Atlas talks about the new title and says that it’s all about prestige and credibility. There’s that smell again. This eventually brings out Delaney, who basically gets no reaction until he opens his mouth, who gives the usual heel turn speech. He saw Henry as the future and Dreamer as yadda yadda yadda. This prompts Long to set up a match between Dreamer and Delaney. Now Delaney may think he’s got his boys to protect him but.. nah. Henry and Atlas leave the ring and our first match up is after the break.
Along with his ….. twenty other matches Delaney got squashed. Very little offense in on Dreamer and it did little for his heel turn. Dreamer got in a nice move when he hit an abdominal stretch suplex. Other than that it was a boring squash but it was nice to see Dreamer get a win.
Backstage we see Miz and Morrison being pissed about the result of the tag match on Sunday. And who could blame them? Anyway they have to focus on the main event tonight and they try and boost each other’s confidence by saying the other will win the match. It almost looked like they were going to make out at the end. Ew.
Up next we have Chavo Guerrero at ringside to help call the next match with Bam by his side. Out comes Evan Bourne. His opponent tonight is the multi-time jobber extraordinaire: James Curtis. So Bourne faces a former ECW Champion one week and a jobber the next? Huh either it’s the six flights I’ve been on or that doesn’t make sense. Anywho they put on a good match with a lot of interesting offensive maneuvers from both Bourne and Curtis. Bourne shows a little more of his mat wrestling skills this time around. Bourne wins it with the most fantastic SSP in the business. Afterwards Bam and Chavo try and attack him but to no avail. Looks like Bourne might have his first feud on his hands.
Backstage Finlay talks about the main event. He runs down his opponents for tonight. Him and Hornsowoggle compare shillelaghs.
After a quick commercial break we see Ricky Ortiz and Tiffany backstage chatting it up before GM Long comes in. Apparently Teddy had hair like that too back in the 70’s. Ricky tries to come up with some marketing ideas and a new nickname. He once again brings up the fact he’s “undefeated”. He’ll be in a match next week.
We are then…. Treated if you will to a video package of Mike Knox who won’t be doing his weekly squash. I guess their trying to build up Mr. Face on a Milk Carton as something dangerous.
Backstage Hardy gives us, US, a pep talk before his match. Things happen for a reason and even though he lost the United States title he’ll soon become ECW Champion. That match is next.
The Fatal Four Way match started with Miz coming out, then Finlay, then Morrison, and lastly is Hardy. This Fatal Four Way match may be the best ECW television match that we’ve gotten this year. It lasted a long time, somewhere around twenty minutes I think, it had great double teams, and of course the classic tag team falls apart stage. A really interesting part of the match was when M&M had a mini tag match against Hardy and Finlay. The match was really good in my opinion and showed what a main event should be like. As previously stated M&M showed signs of working against each other which may lead me to believe if they’ll split up or not. Hardy gets the win after catching Morrison with the Twist of Fate. So at SummerSlam it’ll be Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry. Henry comes out for a confrontation.
Well we got our usual ECW happenings. Bourne continued to show off his awesomeness, Henry talked, Delaney got squashed, and GM Long made stuff happen. However we got a fantastic main event. I’ll give ECW a 7/10 this week. At the risk of falling asleep yet again while writing this blog, due to jetlag, I’ll finish it off with the first ECW Top 10 Power Rankings. Hey why can’t I have one? Thing is I basically only have 10 people to work with.
ECW Top 10 Power Ranking
1. Mark Henry
2. Matt Hardy
3. Evan Bourne
4. Chavo Guerrero
5. John Morrison
6. The Miz
7. Finlay
8. Mike Knox
9. Tommy Dreamer
10. Colin Delaney

Hey LOSERS. Just wanted to point out how RIGHT I was about cm punk. I told you ALL his run with the belt would consist of bull shit wins because hes to small. And guess what you pecil neck geeks, he has 1 clean win! Over Snitsky. He sucks and so do all of YOU who support him.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
O Rielly:
Blind fold matches are the worst! Thats a HORRIBLE idea.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:46 pm
And JBL… nice blog..
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I enjoyed ECW this week. I would have to say it was better than RAW and I wish I didn’t have to watch all the RAW rewinds. Oh wait I don’t I just skip right through them thanks to my DVR.
The new ECW belt is pretty impressive, it looks big. I wonder if it will look too big around the waist of say Matt Hardy or possible in the not so distant future, Even Bourne. It’s a bit different for it not to have any gold on it or maybe it’s white gold.
Where was Brayden Walker/Chris Harris? Maybe Mike Knox can squash him or if they wanna build Walker and Knox, they can have a legitimate fued.
I would like ECW to have another title to vie for. Maybe bring back the Cruiserweight or European title.
Fatal 4 was cool. Lots of quick near falls. Lots of nice moves. Quick action. Not really a Matt Hardy fan and would have much rather had Morrison win, but it’s ok. They also kinda teased a Morrison/Miz fued. Which could be very entertaining.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:53 pm
JBL was distracted by CTC, after he was killing poor cm punk. So that doesnt count as a win he earned himself.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Since when has a double dq counted as a win Tim? Sheesh get off your high horse. Most of us understand that creative doesn’t know where they want his run to go so they aren’t gonna put him over or cut his run short. And most of us want a title picture on RAW to not involve Cena. And Punk has a clean win over JBL. And don’t say it wasn’t. A dirty win is pulling tights, using the ropes or some other tactic.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Punk’s win pisses me off too Tim. But someone said something and I forget who but I completly agree with them. Why is the WWE worried aout ratings with CM Punk as champion when at this time last year they had Khali as champion and the ratings were consistent? Dont they know that CM Punk is the most highly watched superstar on Raw? More so then CTC.
July 23rd, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Other tactics like haveing CTC distract his opponent. This makes a lot of sense Shadow “understand that creative doesn’t know where they want his run to go so they aren’t gonna put him over” There not going to “Put Over” the Champ? Yea because NO one in there right mind would believe it.
July 23rd, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Tim, all i can come up with regarding what you say is a rather famous 4-letter word: STFU! no, not the lame asSTF cena uses, but rather SHUT THE FU** UP!!!! punk is on a trial right now, supposebly his first clean win is at summerslam. either that, or he will lose the title, which means WWE are not happy with him as champ. btw, this was an exchange-less ECW, which is always nice. (aspecially such a good 1)
July 23rd, 2008 at 6:43 pm
lol, nice of you to cut my sentence short but you’ve got your out look and i have mine. I don’t thin CTC came down on Punk behave. It was more towards getting revenge for getting tossed out. But again, you see it how you will and I’ll see it as i will. I’d rather have someone new hold the belt then the same guys fight for it all yr, like Cena for one.
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I never see CM as a multiple time World Champ. He’s more of a intercontinental or US champ guy to me. I think he’ll fade out of the main event status. I may be wrong about this but who knows.

I love the new ECW title belt! Only thing I wish they would have made it say would be “Extreme Championship Wrestling” instead of World Wrestling Entertainment. Other than that I really likes!
July 24th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
See Rob Dib is a thinker.
July 24th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Anyway, lol, I can’t help but notice that the new diva and ecw belts are not truely gold, even when the “going for the gold” line is used. But they are very unique. And I do agree that in the long run Punk will prob be more of a secondary belt wearer after his world title run but its a wait and see time I guess lol
July 24th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Theres no Wait and See. I said it so write it in STONE. Punks 2 small 2 be champ!
July 24th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
You people complain too much. Do you want another boring Batista reign or Super Cena reign. Raw is actually trying something new and people still shit on it.
July 24th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I shit on it because punk is just holding the belt for Orton. Go do some drugs RVD and try to get a clue.
July 24th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
how is shawn michaels bigger then cm punk in size? or mysterio? or eddie guerrero? i think punk is a true champ. hola hola
July 24th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
RVD you’ve said the wors I’ve been lokking for. We complain and complain about Cena and Botchista and then we get a new champ and you people shit all over it. Punk deserves this and should hold it until at least Survivor Series. Unless as Tim says it’s Orton who’ll win it. Orton #1 Wrestler in the business bitches.
July 24th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
If they are gonna make CM Punk a long term thing they need to develop their other young talent. CM punk needs other youngsters such as Morrison and Kennedy to grown with him. If you take them and others of about the same size you can pretty much transform the World Championship level players away from the big muscle men. No one is HBK so I don’t think they will ever get rid of the big, boring fellas. CM would need alot of superstars of the same size to succeed. No one is going to go for him beating Batista, Cena, JBL, or Trip H.

July 24th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Very good point RD. Yeah your right on that. However putting Punk OVER guys like Batista couldnt hurt him.
July 24th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
If we do that Rob it would be like the ECW title,
July 24th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
This weeks ECW sounds great. This is off topic but can someone tell me when Orton comes back? We don’t need JBL taking up the space as top heel. we got jericho and JBL is only a good brawler. I hope they dont cut CM Punks reign short because if used properly by the creative he can do a fine job. i hope things turn out well for the guy. matt hardy vs mark henry sounds better than dreamer vs henry but i doubt good old matt is gonna win the championship. imo mark henry is very good as ECW champion. i guess i misjudged him. and about his wrestling ability. well at least he aint no crappy khali now. And to RVD i agree with ur comment. i hate it when ppl crap on new world champions. i mean they were cryin when it was cena or batista and now ppl are hating even when its someone as talented as cm punk or orton for that matter. im happy with the title holders on Raw right now because its new fresh faces.
July 24th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
I’m happy that it is someone new. CM is growing on me…. slowly. I love JBL. He is just a great heel in my opinion. A rich, stuck up, arrogant cowboy is a excellent heel.

I know I’m not shitting on the fact that Punk has the belt. Its a nice change from Cena
July 24th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I see orton back by november
July 25th, 2008 at 8:29 am
I would rather have Mae Young as world champ than John Cena’nuff. So CM is a nice change for now, I just don’t believe he can carry the load too long.

July 25th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Shadow- Orton should be back either before or soon after Summerslam
July 25th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
LOL. So idk how long some injuries take to heal. I’m in it for the action and not the sideline report lol
July 25th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Well that’s just word going around. I’m not 100% but the sooner Orton comes back the better.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
double that. saying orton has very solid skills is an understatement. WE WANT OR-TON clap, clap clapclap clap WE WANT OR-TON clap, clap clapclap clap.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I agree, Orton will be accepted back with open arms by myself. He brings awesome heat, better than anyone else.

July 26th, 2008 at 10:04 am
btw, did any 1 notice that the ‘latin assasin’ hand mark was LAX’s hand mark?
July 26th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Wow, great episode of ECW, especially coming after the suckfest that was Monday Nitraw (it’s seriously late 2000 Nitro quality now…) scoring high on virtually every good point a good wrestling show needs.
The new belt looks sleek, although it isn’t “gold”. Mark Henry still is doing fairly well as champ, but it’ll be good to see the title back in someone who can actually work an entertaining match, and most importantly, does not satisfy Vince’s giant fetish. The Delaney heel turn was not something I saw coming, and I actually think he has a little heel charisma in there. He still kicks ass. Best jobber in the business. The match was, of course, what you expect from a squash match. Although it was nice to see the Great American Jobber get a win, I found myself rooting for Colin.
Miz & Morrison’s backstage promo was hilarious. It’s like they didn’t even let the fact that they lost their championships to the most undeserving team in WWE into their heads. I hope this means they will move on to bigger and better things, for instance, Miz can go for the US title and Morrison can feud with Matt after he wins the ECW Championship.
Evan Bourne, was, as always, fantastic. What can I say? I put the credit for ECW’s rise in ratings squarely on him, not to mention the rise in WWE’s credibility for having good wrestlers. James Curtis looked a bit better than the last time we saw him, but he’s still nothing special. Not as many “holy shit” moments as usual, but the match showed that Bourne can also slow down and deliver the “effective” offense. The Shooting Star Press is still better than any finisher in the WWE right now.
Finlay really needs to turn heel right now and stop thinking about his son’s shillelaghs. (err, that came out wrong. Luke Parks told me to say it!) Finlay is a fantastic worker, but I don’t understand why they have to ruin his credibility. Hornswoggle is fun when he’s on his own, and not a serious championship contender.
Ricky Ortiz, huh? Really don’t know what to think of this guy. He IS, however, undefeated AND the Man of 1 holds, that being the ARMBAR! The same move(s) again and again is more of a late Ric Flair tactic. AKA boring. But hey, I know what he can do to add some excitement into it; blade himself in every match! And did he steal Hardcore Holly’s wig from when he was forced to dress up as Carlito for the Raw Roulette back in January? And why does this Tiffany chick look so damn familar?
Matt Hardy’s promo was cool, and I’d like to see a bit more of a mean streak in him for his feud with the Spandex King. One of the reasons why I think his US Championship reign failed was because he played the consummate face character ALL the time. Nobody in real life is *that* noble and pure.
The main event kicked granola bar ass. Miz, Morrison, Hardy and Finlay are all phenomenal together. Loved seeing the dying breath (or…?) of MNM II, as they teamed up to own Matt Hardy. Many great near falls, and it looked like every man was gonna win at some point. Fantastic finish, and it’s gonna be great to see Matt Hardy defy the odds (but not gravity) in a feud against a Super-Heavyweight once more.

All in all, the show was great. It was so much better than Raw, in fact, that Raw once again wins worst show of the week. Keep it up!
9.8/10
July 26th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
By the way, nice to have you back O’Reilly. Parks did such a crap job, he made Russo look like a good writer. Yeah, I’m talking to you Parks! And I’m glad you other little jokers stopped this stupid BWF fad.
July 26th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
um… HK? weren’t you the GM of BWF?
July 26th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Thanks for the compliment HK but di you insult Ric Flair in your sub-blog?
July 26th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
by the way, anyone knows whats up with adit? he hasnt put his blog up yet, even though its been 2 days since iMPACT!
July 26th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Landau your not the only one who took note in the LAX hand sign. That was my first thought when i saw it
July 26th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Guy- He sometimes does that often for some reason. I wouldnt want to write about that show either.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
It’s not an insult as such. It’s fact. From 2003 to 2008, he did the same moves over and over again, which is boring. I know age limits your movement and stuff, but you should at least be able to do something other than chops. Also, I never got why he felt he had to gig himself in every match. It’s not that I don’t respect it, it’s just that it’s weird - high-profiled guys like JBL or Cena almost never do it anymore, while Ric Flair does, or did it all the time.
And I just played the “GM” role to humor people. And it’s not a sub-blog anymore, since that term pisses people off it seems. Sure, don’t delete a post that says “FIRST!!!!!!!!!”, delete the ones with good opinions instead.
July 26th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
HK makes some valid points there. But we still love Ric. He did good in his match at WM24 tho. Just thought i’d give my 2 cents
July 27th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Hey, just so it’s clarified - I’m not knocking the man. Ric Flair was, at one point, the very best in the world, ever. However, his later years (I didn’t catch up with his NWA/WCW/WWF stuff before much later) in WWE left me thinking, “Best ever? What the hell? Viscera has more moves!” so I think it can have that effect on people. You’ve gotta face it - the last 6 years of his career, Ric Flair was not the best wrestler in the world.
July 27th, 2008 at 3:08 am
Anthony i really don’t like your blogs. I usually find them boring and random. I don’t even like the title you chose “One Night Blog” is so unoriginal. How bout something like “Blood, Barbwire, and Blog” or “Extreme Rules Blog”. I think both of those are better titles and that was just off the top of my head. Not trying to be an as*hole just wanted to express my opinion.
July 27th, 2008 at 3:21 am
HK,
I understand your point. Age will limit someone but without a doubt Ric can easly be call one of if not the best in the history of the sport
July 27th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Ric Flair aways had that Charisma and heart. No one can denie that! This was a very good blog. Now People are right about cm punk. He is great, but wwe is trying to be like MMA. And In MMA the bigger guys destroy littler guys. But Cm punk is special. I belive once he turns heel. He will be the next stone cold. Well in terms of crowd support.Own and vickie brought taker back. Which i said would happen!sHELTON IS GOLd!
July 27th, 2008 at 8:11 am
its obvious that the next stone cold is misterrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….. KENNEDY!!!!! ….. KENNEDY. he is a mix of stone cold & the rock, yet modern. he is the next big thing.
July 27th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Yeah but I kinda hate Kennedy as face. I dont know why though. He still kicks ass as a wrestler but I’d rather him be heel.
As for the flair topic. Yes his WWE years were not his best but still. He was the best. His match with HBK was just outstanding.
July 27th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
I forgot Kennedy was in the WWE until that Battle Royal on SmackDown. Man, did he ruin his chance at Superstardom or what? I like Kennedy as a heel, but he seemed to be a good face for the short time he was one on RAW.
Guy, sorry to put you on the spot, but please don’t use Kennedy in the same sentence as The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. He’s not, nor will he EVER be as big as those two were.
I mean, he was on the verge of becoming World Champion then had to drop his MITB to Edge. Well, that was mostly the doctor’s fault for messing up his return date and seriousness of his injury.
The second time WAS his fault. The “Bastard Son” angle took a horrible turn. Kennedy got himself suspended and caused himself another chance. In fact, it’s his fault that Hornswoggle’s getting all this attention. I hate to pick on the guy, but it’s true. If Kennedy had not been suspended, he’d be on top of the WWE right now, and Hornswoggle would still make his random popouts from under the ring. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk.
July 27th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Well…Cena isn’t good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Ernest “The Cat” Miller, even.
July 28th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Ernest “The Cat” Miller. Thats some funny shit HK.
