By Anthony O'Reilly on November 12th, 2008
What’s up everybody? This is of course the most charismatic blogger on WNW: Anthony O’Reilly. And if I’m in the building that can only mean one thing. It’s time for One Night Blog. A lot’s been happening in the wrestling world as of late. And I can only get to so many. However if you always want to be in the loop, please do not go anywhere else then right here on Wrestling News World.
I firstly want to talk about something that happened on Smackdown last week. As some of you may know it was revealed that Brie Bella has an identical sister, who will be called Nikki Bella. First off, they are hot. I mean they are two fine women. Now that I got that out of my system let’s talk business. As stated on the comment board in Chris’ blog most people, including myself, would like to see something along the lines of Brie and Nikki aligning themselves with the Colons. Perhaps each brother has a sister as a valet. But for the careers of the Bella’s to start off good they need to stick with the current Natalya and Victoria feud they got going. There could be some good comedy stuff going on between Colons and Bella’s. We’ve already seen some with Primo almost picking up Brie and then rejected by Nikki. One more thing I have to say is that their synchronization on the double teams last week was just about flawless.
WWE usually has two times of the year in which they do a little house cleaning. This happens to be one of those times as over the past few days six superstars have been released. As usual I will look at each individual’s case, their future, and what could’ve been done to save this in some cases.
Lena Yada- No real surprise here. There was no chance that she would really go anywhere in this business. Really there was nothing I could see for her to do. And I don’t see anywhere for her to go.
Chuck Palumbo- Last year I was really high on this guy. His debut showed that he could be a force to be reckoned with. I found that there were a few things that led to the downfall of the Chuck. First off was him turning him heel. Once he was turned heel his only program was with Jamie Noble. As we all know that leads to nowhere. He then had no program whatsoever. I feel if he stuck to being a face then he could’ve contended for the U.S. title. Putting him on Raw where there were too many veterans was also a huge mistake. He would absolutely go no place on there. His talents are plentiful and I will miss him. I heard he will try to go to AAA. Not sure about that association so if it’s good for him then go for it.
Kenny Dykstra- What can I say about this guy? He has immense talent, great charisma as a heel. Sadly the only solid thing he’s had was during Spirit Squad days, and his brief program with Naitch. During his Smackdown days he briefly feuded with Chuck Palumbo which I thought had the potential to be a good program especially since Victoria and Michelle were partially in it. The big thing that could’ve saved this was the program that he could’ve had with Triple H back in September. That really could’ve boosted his career. Even if it was a dirty win it would’ve been good for him. I don’t think TNA will probably pick him up.
Super Crazy- Oh man. Why did this guy even enter into the WWE? He was used for basically nothing at all except for Snitsky’s monthly feeding of squash. He was much better used during the two One Night Stand’s. I was thinking that with his return to ECW he might be used a bit more but this is obviously not the case. The guy is a great luchadore wrestler. I don’t think that TNA is a good destination point for him, even though he could do well in the X-Division. He should go back to Mexico. We’ll always have the memories…. from ECW.
Paul London- Perhaps half of one of the best WWE Tag Team Champions of all time. BK&PL were a modern day Hardyz. The easiest thing to do to avoid this release would’ve been to obviously keep this awesome duo together. However then we wouldn’t have had the man we know today as The Kendrick. I forget who but somebody on this site said that there was one perfect time to repackage London. Remember when DX “reunited” and faced Jericho and Cade. Well instead of Triple H how about they used London. Paul trained under the Heartbreak Kid and would’ve been a perfect fit in the feud. I hope this guy goes to ROH as he would be a lot better in there then anywhere else. He’s naturally quick and a great mat wrestler.
Elijah Burke- Perhaps the most devastating of all six releases. This guy shined during late 2006 to mid 2007. I seriously have one person to blame for this release: John Morrison. If John Morrison wasn’t pushed so much then Burke would’ve been the top heel on the ECW roster. We saw this as he fought Punk for the title during JoMo’s suspension. He did everything in ECW, was the leader of a stable, brought a feud to WrestleMania, and he even announced for an entire show. However he not once held the championship. There still is a spot on the roster right now for Elijah to shine. He could’ve been a great mid card wrestler on the level of Shelton Benjamin. How great would a Burke and Truth feud be? TNA is the perfect destination for him. They will likely accept him with open arms due to his talent and immense charisma. The Pope has left the building.
If you have Premium Service here on WNW (which by the way is awesome and if you can afford then I suggest you buy it) then you know all the detail’s on Christian Cage right now. I’m not going to say much and spoil it for all of you but let’s just say that it could be very interesting on how this unfolds. During this time of economic depression people need to secure their future. Christian will be a big player anywhere he goes. If he does return to the WWE I have a feeling he’ll be pushed a lot more then he was before his departure. I don’t read TNA spoilers so I have a feeling he’ll probably reject going into the Main Event Mafia (more on them next week) and then be fired or something. Or he’ll turn heel and join them. He certainly has enough prestige to join a group of that stature.
It’s a sad day in wrestling. There’s no more Honk-A-Meter. And even worse is that there’s no more Honk-A-Perfect-Mountie Meter. Santino was hilarious but really I’d rather Regal hold the gold than him. Regal is an amazing wrestler and hopefully can hold the title for a good bit before dropping it in the opening match at WrestleMania.
Final story I promise. In case nobody read the story it seems that ECW is getting an extension on their current TV deal with Sci-Fi. I think that’s a good choice. ECW has been a great show lately and although I’m not sure what the other ratings are for other shows, the ECW ones have been consistently good. Of course last week pulled a little less due to the Election Coverage that even I was watching. I’ll watch ECW no matter what channel it’s on but seeing that their current channel has extended the deal is a pretty good sign for WWE. I remember last year there were serious conversations of cutting it from the schedule.
I know you’ve heard enough of me talking. What you really came here for is to find out what happened on Tuesday Night Wrestling. So without further ado I give to you ECW!
Before the show WWE shows a great video honoring our Veterans. My uncle fought in Nam. If you know anyone who is fighting or did express your appreciation please. I remember TNA didn’t do anything for 9/11 which I was so pissed about. Also we get a video about the main event of Matt Hardy and Finlay going one on one for the strap.
The video rolls and the pyro explodes as we are welcomed to ECW being broadcasted from Chris Jack’s home country of England. To start the show is the Shaman of Sexy John Morrison finally coming out to the slow mo entrance for the first time in awhile. Out next is of course his tag team partner: The Miz. Their tag team partner for this week is the All American American Jack Swagger coming out to a theme song that sounds new and by Rage Against the Machine. Out to a tremendous pop is Cryme Tyme and Tommy Dreamer. Why can’t Dreamer come out to his own music. They bring up that Striker is from my home Queens and I believe he also believes in Bayside like myself. I gotta look him up. Swagger quickly tags in Miz to take care of Dreamer. JTG then comes in to a nice double team. JTG is flying all over the place and looking impressive. Swagger then comes in and wants Dreamer but gets Shad. All six heels dumped to the outside. JTG pressed slammed into Jack. Dreamer hits a freaking somersault in mid-air. That’s right 260 lb. Dreamer hit a somersault in mid-air from the ring apron onto M&M2. Move gets a small E-C-Dub chant and rightfully so.
During commercial there’s a commercial for Ortiz appearing on a new show called Cha$e.
Back from commercial and JTG has the role of Damsel in Distress as it’s shown during the commercial that he was pushed off the top turnbuckle. Striker says that M&M must be upset about Proposition 8 in California. That was hilarious. Heels work over JTG and Swagger gets a “Who are you” chant. Guess ECW isn’t popular in England. Submission move by JoMo as the crowd gets behind JTG. JTG gets the hot tag to the OG of Extreme and cleans house. Nice bulldog on Miz and then pump handle suplex on JoMo. Shad finishes Miz and Swagger gives JTG a gut wrench suplex. Chaos all over the ring as Dreamer gives Jack (who is still not well known in England) a DDT. Springboard kick misses, DDT reversed into Moonlight Drive for the three. Awesome match. ECW really puts on good six man tag matches and this one of their better ones so far. All parts of the matches were not boring at all and had plenty of action to keep everyone entertained. Heels pose in the ring.
Matt Hardy is backstage. Hardy says he’s going to give the man who loves to fight the fight of his life. He says to bring the luck of the Irish with him. Well Hardy I have to tell you that we have all the luck in the world.
Apparently WWE has visited over 200 military stations in the last five years. I’ve always given props to McMahon for this.
I change the channel because they showed some bullshit about a homo appearing on Raw and what he does outside of his job. I don’t know what that was about but I’m sure nobody finds it entertaining.
When the stuff that actually matters right now comes back Mark Henry is heading to the ring. He’ll be facing Oliver Biney who is obviously well known as he gets a good pop. Your basic squash match here. Nothing special at all here. Strongest Slam for the pin. Grisham is then in the ring and asks who he think will win tonight. He huffs and puffs but says nothing and leaves the ring. Video recap of the main event last week.
Tale of the Tape is shown. Both are even in height and Hardy has a one pound advantage.
Viva La Raza DVD commercial is shown. I’m getting that. If you’ve seen the match listing they have some great selections on there. The commentary by current superstars should be good too.
Back from break and out comes the Irish man. Seeing as he’s Irish I’m a little surprised he didn’t get booed. Hardy then comes out to a nice pop. This should be good seeing as their given a lot of time. Formal introductions are given. Crowd is definitely split here but Hardy gets the crowd behind him first. Collar bone tie up starts the match as they fight their way around the ring. Nice mat wrestling starts the match off and they bring some of it to the floor with submissions. Hardy gets in control and goes to the mat with a headlock. Finlay then gets control as he grounds and pounds Hardy. Atomic drop hit on the champ. Finlay in firm control of the match but not of the crowd as
‘Let’s go Hardy” “Let’s go Finlay chants” duel. Finlay over the top rope and Horny goes under the ring as we go to commercial.
Back from break and Hardy is in control and hits the clothesline-bulldog. Horny distracts Hardy and Hardy is rammed into the ring post. Horny looks to have tweaked something as he fell off the apron. Finlay now gets control of the champ and sends him back to the outside. Back in the ring and Hardy in a headlock. Finlay then goes back outside and Hardy rams Finlay into the barricade. Finlay stays in control with a shot the throat and a clothesline. Another commercial break taken. I have to say so far this match has not impressed me. Way too slow.
Back from our second break and Finlay is still in control as he is keeping Hardy grounded. Horny looks to be better now. Side Effect out of nowhere gets a 2 count. Another one and still 2. Third one attempted but Finlay reverses into a roll up. TOF reversed into backslide. Finlay press on Hardy. Match finally starting to speed up. TOF reversed into a Rolling Slam. Grisham mistook it for Celtic Cross. Finlay attempts to go up top but reverses into a roll up. Moon sault on Finlay. I can’t type fast enough. Both men clonk heads. Out of nowhere the Twist of Fate on Finlay and we have a winner. Hardy has retained. Good match. Not great first one third was way too slow. Second was all right. Third one was jam packed with action and happened so fast I had to pause my TV so many times. Good storytelling in this match. Handshake by the two competitors and the show goes off the air.
When I read the spoilers I wasn’t too optimistic about this episode but it was a good one. We could’ve replaced the promo with an Ortiz or a backstage segment. Six Man tag match was amazing. Main event was good. Until next week I’m Anthony O’Reilly signing out for tonight.

I think Matt Hardy is going to hold this Belt for a good amount of time. I think if they push Swagger right and he starts getting a little more heat on him then Hardy should eventually lose it to him and then turn Heel and face Jeff for the WWE title once Jeff wins that. I’m Just Saying

“Perhaps half of one of the best WWE Tag Team Champions of all time.”
I can always count on you to say something COMPLETELY CRAZY!

Frankly Tim I think you are the crazy one here. BK&PL were amazing as a tag team. Although their reign wasnt that prestegious they were outstanding to watch.

Anthony, all they were was a smaller version of The Killer Bees!

This week’s ONP is: 1) for the wrestling gaming genre fans: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST WREESTLING GAME (Santino impression coming up) OF ALL THE TIMES?
2) for MMA fans: DO YOU THINK LASHLEY WOULD WIN HIS FIRST MMA FIGHT?
3) and here’s one for the non-game, non-MMA fans: WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST UNDERRATED STAR WWE (still) HAS UNDER CONTRACT? i’d go with MVP, if he wasn’t in line for a push. so someone else… Shelton Benjamin. even though he is US Champ, he is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond that level! he should be headlining PPVs hunting world titles! EVERY single performance he puts is stellar. i would go for London if he wasn’t released. regal is not underrated because he WAS in line for a push, until he blew it.
i still missed Bourne this week, though a way better show than last week.

Day of Reckoning (DOR to me and my friends) played the game all the time. It was such and awesome game and when you played with four people the matches were so intense especially ladder matches. Lashley will lose and hopefully realize he is a wrestler. I think the most underatted worker is also MVP, he is straight up ballin!!!

Best game was Superstars arcade game that had the Royal Rumble. My friends and i use 2 skip class and go play it at the arcade. Man those were the days.
Most underrated is Y2J! What hes done since mania is nothing short of amazing!
November 13th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I forget the name of the game but you could have unlimited people in the ring, use any weapon imaginable, and even lose limbs.
I dont know who Lashley isfacing so I cant tell you right now.
Jimmy Wang Yang. Honestly. If you see some of his work where he has no restrctions on what he can do it’s amazing. i’d love to see him pused a little more.
BDJ- I dont think Hardy’ll drop to Swagger. I’m not sure who he will.

I was trying to make sense of that comment. lol
November 14th, 2008 at 6:38 am
I’ll say that for the last time: by the end of his match at survivor series MVP should (according to plans) be officially recognized as a main eventer, cause he will be focused on his matches rather than his incentive bonus, since that will no longer be on the table. i agree about wang yang, although he did get a supposed win this past SD! against TBK if it wasn’t for Big Ziek. i think you can count that as a push, since he didn’t job.
November 16th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Back to the show…… i must say that i completely agree with Matt Striker, i used to like mr. morrison, but he and the miz seem to be rather happy together
i do miss Evan Bourne, for more reasons than one !!! I must have missed the promo that you are talking about Anthony, but i will take another look, to see in what context you use the word homo!!! i mean i thought the comment was like um soooo gay ! (rolls his eyes). Now that ECW has been granted an extention, i feel that it is now time to introduce another title to the show. Stop the talent exchange and start utilizing talent that are assigned to each show. I am in 2 frames of mind. The t.v title (as wwe is blanket rated pg) or the hardcore title and have each show rated differently, (excuse me if this doesnt make sense, being an aussie, i dont know how the ratings work in the u.s)Raw an M rating, SD a pg rating and ECW MA15+. There is nothing Extreme about the way things are at the moment. It might as well be Heat or Velocity, which defeats the purpose of having a brand extention on 3 shows! My thoughts for now…… 1. best game for me is actually the current SD vs Raw, game play is the best that i have experienced, im happy with the roster but it is easy to finish. 2. No i dont, but i dont care. im sure Kristal Marshall will pussywhip him into screwing that up aswell 3. Layla, she can act, she has great facial expressions, you can feel her presence and when she does wrestle,(considering she started from the diva search) it seems to flow. She in my oppinion carried Kelly and Brooke in ECW and has always stood out in the pack.
November 16th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
what gay promo? i must have missed that as well…
i guess you never got to play WWF No Mercy, have you?
November 17th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Jamie Noble is the most underrated
