One Night Blog- Survival Guide to ECW
  By Anthony O'Reilly on November 19th, 2008

Even though my life is as busy as a Toys R Us the day after Thanksgiving and my internet connection crappier than Cena’s wrestling, I will always find a way to get this up for you folks. Because I know you always look forward to One Night Blog. First off I want to give m congratulations to the first ever former WWE and now current UFC Champion: Brock Lesnar. I was at my friend’s house watching the fight and I have to say I’m shocked Couture lost. However as a professional wrestling fan I’m happy for Brock for his win. Now let’s dive into the pro wrestling world now.

First off, I realized something last week. While lying in bed sick I was watching old matches and for some reason decided to watch Hornswoggle vs. Mini Boogeyman. Now first off this was a hilarious match up. Second it was here that I realized that the WWE needs John Bradshaw Layfield behind an announcing table again. The combination of him and Michael Cole was just pure gold. Since returning to the squared circle he’s had no good matches and absolutely no good programs with anyone. Behind the table he was still a top notch heel but yet he was doing something good for the business. However the unfortunate thing is that I don’t think there’s a place you can put him in right now. J.R. and Tazz are doing great, Striker is amazing so he’s staying, and King and Cole aren’t going anywhere. So it looks like we’re stuck with him in the ring for now.

You know what pissed me off more than anything last night on Raw. No matter what was happening Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler always found some freaking way to mention John Cena. In fact the last thing that they said was “John Cena”. In the main event the said it at least three times. Two times during M&M2 vs. Rey and Shawn. And God knows how many times throughout the program. Cena’s got to be dry after all this sucki…. I mean promoting they’ve done for him.

It looks like Armando Estrada’s journey here in WWE has come to a halt. He was a good GM and I have to say he’s not that bad of a wrestler. It’s a shame that we could’nt have gotten a Castro like dictator gimmick out of him.

Now I want to question WWE. My question: Why oh why, do you put on 5 star shows for Canada and Britain, yet when you are in the states we get crap? Now that’s not to say all stateside shows are horrible, but whenever they cross a border we get matches that blow our mind. Hardy vs. Finlay, Hardy vs. Benjamin, Hardy vs. Undertaker, Michaels vs. Chris Jericho is just a few of the great match ups that took place last week. If WWE could put on show’s like that 52 times out of the year then I guarantee ratings would go up.

R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero. Hard to believe it’s been three years without you. I’m looking forward to buying the Viva La Raza DVD and watching him at his best. Heaven should be a fun place with Latino Heat in it.

Well with all that said and done I think it’s time to get out of the past and into the present. ECW of course.

The video rolls and the pyro explodes as we are welcomed to the latest edition of Tuesday Night Wrestling in Hotlanta.

Out first are the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in recent history. They recap the win against HBK and 619. That was a good match and the superkick to HBK raises my hopes for HBK vs. Morrison feud. They start by hyping Survivor Series and the match they are in. Massive heat for JBL’s name. They say as long as he brings them victory and not Krispy Kremes he’s good. He looks to be hitting those pretty often. They then bring up MVP and say he’s getting $1 Million a victory these past few weeks. They then say that Kane is a fan of torture and that’s enough said. They then mention that they are on the team and the crown jewel. Hell yeah they are. Their getting massive heat now. Going onto the opponents. They start with Khali and insult his taste in women. Then go onto Rey and mock his height and yell out in a stereotypical Mexican yell. Cryme Tyme gets stereotyped even further and say they steal the $$$ to get the bling. They then go onto say Shawn is at a disadvantage because none of his partners speak English. These guys are hilarious. It seems like they want Michaels to become the last person on their team. I like this push for M&M vs. HBK. Remember people: In life there are winners, and there are losers. These two are winners. Good opening promo. Not sure if it was fake or not but there were a lot of boos.

Announced for the main event is Matt Hardy Kofi Kingston and Finlay vs. Cody Rhodes William Regal (whose IC title is painfully obviously photo shopped) and Mark Henry.

The first match is a new superstar called DJ Gabriel and Alicia Foxx who’s been reinvented into a funk dancing machine. Theme music is something from the 80’s. I think his ring name in FCW is Jack Gabriel which might be his real name. Starts off with some nice wrestling moves that isn’t too common in WWE. Uses the real use of a fireman’s carry in a nice takeover. I’m impressed thus far. Defiantly a fresh face here in ECW. Diving Shoulder block finishes it. Despite the fact it’s a squash I was impressed. I look forward to seeing him in the future. After the match they continue to dance.

Backstage another Talent Initiative wrestler walks to the ring for an amateur wrestling challenge with Tommy Dreamer. Of course I’m talking of Swagger.

Back from the break and they announce the rules of the match which is that the first pinfall ends the match or the person with the most points after five minutes wins. I like Swagger’s new music. Dreamer then enters. Swagger puts on head gear and mouth gear. Swagger gets a quick takedown and gets two points. E-C-Dub chants. Swagger quickly gets another takedown. Dreamer gets an escape and gets one point. Impressive takedown by Jack. One and a half minutes in and the crowd does not like this. I don’t either. Didn’t work for TNA and wont work for you Vince. Dreamer gets angry and hits a takedown. Swagger quickly reverses and locks in a submission. They then go into Olympic rules and Swagger gets down and Tommy kicks him in the gut and DDT. Personally I think we could’ve done without that. It was boring and pointless. Dreamer then gets on the mic and says “Ooops my bad, you win”. Again pointless.

Oh crap I change my mind. Please put that match back on. Their showing a video of a gay guy being over pushed in something he sucks at.

Also shown is a promo for the return of The Boogeyman. I’m looking forward to this 100 times more than Cena. Simply because Boogeyman has done one thing Cena has never done: entertain. He’s returning next week. Let the squashes begin.

Backstage Ortiz is with Tiffany who wants to celebrate with her. Owwwww. Swagger moves in and complains about Tiffany’s incompetence. Ortiz and Swagger trade insults on each other. Long comes in and Swagger demands a rematch. Long (didn’t see this coming (sarcasm)) makes this an Extreme Rules. They then run down the card for Survivor Series. Striker is up on his feet. He goes over the rivalries in the match. He’s got the chalkboard just like Striker’s Classroom. He goes over the possibilities that can happen due to the elimination stipulation.

Henry comes out first with his insurance. After the commercial break William Regal is already on his way to the ring and Cody is already there. Kofi Kingston then makes his return to ECW and gets a great pop. Finlay then comes out to his usual. I don’t get why he’s in this match. He has no scheduled match this Sunday. They recap the amazing main event last week. Out last is Matt Hardy who has been constantly working despite a slightly torn muscle in his knee. I got to give him props. Finlay starts off with William Regal. We need this feud. Hard ground and pound starts it off. Cody Rhodes then comes in and gets worked on by Hardy. Doesn’t hold too much back. Hardy provokes the heels on the apron and the faces come in to support him. And after five minutes we take another break.

Back from the break and Kofi monkey flips Cody. Cody then takes control and tags Regal. Kofi then tags Finlay. Series of European Uppercuts (how stereotypical). Finlay is dumped to the outside of the ring and takes a nasty bump. Cody then comes in and takes control of the Irishman. Henry then comes in and absolutely starts to destroy Finlay. Finlay tries to make a comeback but gets rejected. Regal in and locks on a full nelson. Regal keeps control until Rgeal hits a suplex, Hardy breaks up a pin, Regal tags Cody and Finlay gets to tag in Kofi. Kofi goes straight to the high flying antics. Crowd is hot right now. Leg Drop and Hardy takes out Regal. Henry tags himself in. Kofi caught in mid air and gets slammed. Damn. Kofi and Punk haven’t gotten a win since becoming champions. Heel celebrate in the ring.

Now this might sound a little weird. This show definitely did suck but I’m not disappointed with it for some reason. I know that makes as little sense as possible. It was below average. Would’ve liked to see the Amateur wrestling challenge dropped and something else done instead. I’ll see you guys at the Talent Exchange.
