One Night Blog - Scramble the Superstars
  By Anthony O'Reilly on August 27th, 2008

Hello everybody and welcome to another award winning edition of One Night Blog. I am your host for today: Anthony O’Reilly. My first topic of tonight does not concern ECW, WWE, TNA, or anything like that. But it is very good news. I got my laptop back!! I know this affects you in no way what so ever but what this means is that I’ll be able to get blogs up sooner and faster. Also I’d like to welcome Kendra to the WNW blog family. Kendra will take Adit’s place and do the TNA blogs every week. I have a few more things to talk about so let’s get to it.

Firstly I want to briefly talk about the departure of Gail Kim from TNA and her imminent return to WWE. Gail Kim is perhaps one of the best female wrestlers out there. As both a former WWE Women’s Champion and the first Knockout Champion I have a feeing there is big things for her planned either as a face on the Raw division or a heel in the Smackdown division.

I’m ultra psyched for the premiere of R- Truth this Friday on Smackdown. He’ll be a big name one day in this business no doubt. But for now he’s got to fulfill the stereotype that superstars that are brought in by vignettes will just squash an entire roster full of jobbers before they can get anywhere. Not being the biggest TNA fan I’ve been watching a few matches of his to see what to expect. And man I can see he’s got a lot to offer.

I really feel sorry for former WWE referee Wes Adams. During the main event between Morrison and Miz vs. Hardy and Henry Wes mistakenly made the three count on Morrison thus ending the match. For those who don’t know refs are supposed to count pins like their a shoot meaning that they can’t stop a three count. Miz was supposed to stop the pin by interrupting it but he couldn’t get there in time and then Morrison tried to kick out but it was too late. As a result Adams got the future endeavors wish. I just feel sorry for him. So in a new feature I’ll be doing every week, your question of the week is do you think it’s the ref’s fault for counting Morrison out or Miz’s for not getting to the pin in time or Morrison’s for not kicking out?

Everybody knows that I am not the biggest John Cena fan. However I would never wish harm against anybody. It’s a shame that he got hurt. For those who don’t know Cena has a herniated disc in his neck. John Cena is a machine. He keeps going and going and just doesn’t stop for anything. However he is a human and the human body can only take so much punishment. Just like last time people are saying its worst then expected. I have a feeling he’ll make another Royal Rumble return. The bright side of this is that this’ll leave the Raw main event open for a few months. I wish him a full and healthy recovery.

I want to plug something outside of this website. Guy’s listen to WrestleZone Radio every week at 9 p.m. eastern time. It’s a great show and it’s a lot of fun to be in the chat room. It’s hosted by Richard Gray and Ryan Clark. You get so much news in there and sometimes Richard will spoil some Premium News in there. You can also phone in and ask questions about anything in Pro Wrestling. My Tuesday isn’t complete until I tune into it. I’ll be under the name of OneNightBlog if any of you want to PM me. You can reach it through this website or it’s also at wzrradio.com.

For the second night in a row WWE action is being broadcasted on the Sci-Fi network. Let’s get into tonight’s show.

The video rolls and the pyro explodes as we are welcomed to another edition of ECW by our hosts Todd Grishmam and Matt Striker. Tiffany is standing on the ramp and introduces us to the General Manager of ECW: Theodore Long. Long comes out to a nice pop and starts dancing with Tiffany. Supposedly he has a major announcement. They announce that ECW will have its own Championship Scramble because whatever SD! and Raw could do they can do better. I’ll agree with them on the Raw part but SD!’s the A show. They will be qualifying matches all throughout the night. A lot of people have a problem with three scrambles but I don’t.

Speaking of the qualifying match Matt Hardy comes out first for the first match. He is followed by the Shaman of Sexy. Here’s your dream match people. Did Striker call Morrison MoJo? ECW’s have had some great opening matches as of late and this is without a doubt one of the best. These two brought out their A game today. They even pulled out a few moves we haven’t seen in a while including Morrison’s split leg corkscrew moonsault. Something about these two superstars that they can bring the best out of any superstar. A lot of Twist of Fate and neck breaker attempts all throughout the match. Hardy wins it with a surprise Twist of Fate. He qualifies for the ECW scramble. Now I’m stoked that Hardy’s in the scramble but we could’ve had Morrison in it too. We could’ve gotten him instead of some of the people who will qualify later on.

Mark Henry bitches about being in the scramble because he doesn’t have to be pined. Long says life’s not fair and that three championships could change hands. Could Henry’s be one of them? Later on we’re shown the Raw Rebound of how Cena got injured.

Back from commercial and the other half of MNM’s music hits as The Miz tries to qualify for the Scramble at Unforgiven which will be in his hometown. His opponent: Evan Bourne. This is another great match as both superstars were fast and showed a lot of chain wrestling. Bourne continues to display his great aerial offense against The Miz. Miz shows some impressive offense against Bourne. Miz has evolved so much since his days on Smackdown. Bourne hits another beautiful standing moonsault. Bourne misses a frankensteiner causing him to go into the capital of Thailand and then allowing Miz to hit the Reality Check. As with the last result I’m glad Miz is in but couldn’t we also have Evan Bourne? Bourne would’ve made that scramble great. For the record this is not Bourne’s first loss as Vinnie Mac would want you to believe. He lost to Knox a few weeks ago. The hometown hero goes to Unforgiven.

Back from commercial and Chavo Guerrero comes out with the ever gormless Bam Neely. Out next of course is Mr. ECW. An all right match here. Wasn’t a squash but it wasn’t anything like the previous two matches. At one point in the match Chavo knocks Dreamer into Bam making Bam fall off the apron. How pathetic do they want to make Bam Neely look? Dreamer’s been impressing me as of late with his offense. I hope he gets out of jobberville. Chavo’s good but I feel that they could’ve let Bourne or Morrison go over him.

WWE then plugs Smackdown Your Vote. I’m one year short of voting this year but if I had to choose it’d be Obama. I feel he has what it takes to pull the nation out of the dumps. They also go over the Scramble rules.

The long anticipated Knox vs. Finlay will become a qualifying match for the scramble. They recap all the violence that has occurred between these two. This match was everything I thought it would be. It was hard hitting and just a classic slug fest. With Finlay in the Scramble it seems that this is the end of the rivalry. Which is a shame because it was a very good match in my opinion. Finlay uses a I’m not gonna try it for the win. Afterwards Finlay dances with Hornswoggle. Again Morrison or Bourne would’ve been better then Finlay but Finlay will be great in it too.

So the scramble will be Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy vs. Finlay vs. The Miz vs. Chavo Guerrero. This is the second best scramble behind SD!’s. A great show tonight that mainly focused on pure wrestling. With the exception of Chavo vs. Mr. ECW every match was great. ECW gets an 8/10

Next week I might be a little late. I’m a Campus Minister in my school and I got to help the freshman get into the high school routine.

Tune in every Tuesday to WrestleZone Radio at www.wzrradio.com at 9 p.m. ET
