By Anthony O'Reilly on September 3rd, 2008
Hello everybody and welcome to the first One Night Blog edition of the school year. I am your teacher: Anthony O’Reilly. ECW was taped last week so odds are most of you know what will happen tonight. However for those who like surprises I’m here to guide you through all the happenings of ECW. Before I get into the show let’s talk about the wrestling universe today.
I read that last week Vince was unhappy because R-Truth sold too much to Kenny Dykstra. And I agree. When people like Kofi, Evan Bourne, and Umaga debuted they looked absolutely invincible. Killings looked like he was in trouble for most of the match. However when he was in control he was amazing. He made an elbow hit look extraordinary with the corkscrew spin he added on it. And his scissors kick was outstanding with the spin thing he did at the end. He also seemed very charismatic coming to the ring dancing and everything. Next week R-Truth needs to kill Funaki or someone like that. Just break their neck. He needs to just bulldoze them.
It saddens me that Killer Kowalski has passed away on Saturday morning. Kowalski was a great wrestler but his legacy still lives on. He is the trainer of the best wrestler in the business. Of course I’m talking of Triple H. The wrestling business lost one of its best. Knowing how much pain he was in he’s in a better place now. R.I.P. Killer Kowalski.
My question of the week concerns Raw. In particular the Raw Scramble. The big news last week was that Cena was inured and now Rey Mysterio will take his place in the Scramble. Now I’m a Rey Rey fan but not a fanatic. I booed him at the Royal Rumble this year (yes I was there live). But I think it’s too soon to bring him back. So my question is if Rey was incapable of returning and you were Vince McMahon, who would you place in the match. Personally I’d pick either Y2J or Kofi.
ECW shows a memorial for Killer Kowalski. Wrestling will really miss that man.
We are treated to the Dirt Sheet tonight. MNM is getting amazing heat. They go over the Scramble match and the Miz promises that he’ll win. I sure hope so. Morrison is pissed at not getting into the match. They invite Mark Henry out first. I can already see where this is going. Chavo Guerrero then comes out to a hilarious edition of his song done by MNM. Chavo says he’s looking forward to getting his championship back. Yeah right. On the screen they show MNM acting as Finlay’s brothers. Normally I’d be annoyed at them stereotyping Irish but this is hilarious. Finlay comes out to a great pop. The comedy BS starts already as Horny kicks Miz in the knee. Hardy then comes out to the biggest pop. Morrison gives him a look which even further point to a future feud. Hardy calls Atlas, Morrison, and Bam gay. This whole segment went exactly where I thought as the faces and heels brawl. Bourne and Dreamer come down to even it up for the good guys and the heels are cleared. Good opening segment to build up Unforgiven.
Backstage after the commercial both sides continue to brawl. Teddy Long comes in between them. Tonight’s main event is MNM Chavo and Henry vs. Dreamer Bourne Finlay and Hardy.
Super Crazy’s music hits and he is to face Gavin Spears. I know people don’t think a lot of this guy based on his debut. But he’s 131 on the PWI 500 so he’s got to be good. Spears claims to be the crown jewel of ECW. Sorry buddy but Bourne beat you to it. This was a quick match but it defiantly proved that Spears isn’t as worthless as we all thought. He did pretty well in there against Super Crazy. Super Crazy gets the win after a unique springboard moonsault.
Back from the commercial break and Ricky Ortiz comes out to face Ryan Braddock. Isn’t he a Smackdown person? Braddock dominates most of the match and looks all right too. I know that his last match he jobbed to The Show but he looks all right. Ortiz becomes more and more impressive each week. Hits some nice maneuvers except my only problem is with his finisher. He runs with a running splash. I thought that was only for the lard asses. Can’t we give him an enziguri or something? Other than that he looks to be getting better.
They recap HBK and Y2J’s segment. They bring up the injury HBK suffered. I’m very happy it’s not that serious. If that match was to be cancelled I’d be so damn mad. They also go down the Republican Convention. McCain’s going down. They also go down the Unforgiven card.
Matt Hardy comes down for the main event. After the commercial Finlay and Mr. ECW have joined him. Bourne comes down as the last face. Next up are the heels. Morrison and Hardy, who had the ECW match of the year last week, start off. Bourne hits a springboard dropkick on Chavo at one point during the match. He just keeps coming with new moves in his arsenal every week. He also hits the greatest standing moonsault in the business on The Miz. Surprisingly Bourne plays the Damsel in Distress for the match. He does sell good though I have to say. He has good facial expressions. The heels do a good job at pummeling him. Dreamer dominates for two minutes than is in trouble for two more and then Hardy comes in. Hardy cleans house but is trampled by Henry. Their making everyone but Finlay play damsel. Hmm sign of things to come? Bourne hits the best SSP he’s done in ECW by far on Henry. I mean this one was so high up in the air. Bourne takes care of Miz. Frog Splash by Dreamer and he takes care of Morrison. Butt splash by Finlay and he takes Chavo out. Hardy hits the Twist of Fate. Wow what a match. ECW’s tag team matches are always good but this one was crazy. Henry raises his belt at the end of the show.
An average show. Not nearly as good as last weeks. I’m sorry for the lateness but Orientation was long. ECW gets a 7/10 this week. To see my Unforgiven predictions make sure to check out the Talent Exchange this week.

IM BACK! Ive been watching you ham and eggers act like children and am here to “tell it like it is.”
Hey Anthony…. fan is short for fanatic.
I would have brought in SID for the scramble, that would have been a shock and people who dont know him would have been blown away by what a freak he is.
How cool is Teddy Long? Ive been watching him since he was a ref, and when he brought in DOOM that was killer. For you children DOOM was a masked team with 2guys named Butch Reed and Ron Simmons. Any way they were badass and so is Teddy! A great Teddy Long phrase “when you party with Ric Flair, brotha you are living a story to tell!”
Ill be watching!

please don’t remind us its the start of the school year :X
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Sorry Joe but you got to face the facts. Senior Year for me and I couldnt be more psyched. And for everyone whos going to complain about Tim would you rather him or HBK. Sid wouldve been a surprise but hes not signed yet.
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Why when everything was going nicely do they have to bring back the talent exchange, the shows have been better when it hasn’t been in effect.
The Dirt Sheet on wwe.com is good, the one on TV isn’t so good.
Ortiz is getting more of a crowd reaction every week. His finisher is a bit lame but at least its different.
Spears is getting better also. All he needs is a win and some character. I like the arrogant gimmick but he needs to push it himself. Good to see Crazy get a significant win.
The main event was fantastic. The finish was something that I had never seen before, usually in big tag matches, it all turn crazy but having the faces dominate and then one by one have them take out the faces was quite unique.
Overall good build for Unforgiven.
To answer your question Anthony, Jericho would have been the obvious first choice. I don’t think Kofi would have fit into that role but there are definately other names that could have been added rather than Mysterio, EG:- D-Lo Brown, Lance Cade, Chuck Palumbo, Paul London (he’s had a gimmick change) Paul Birchall or even the debuting Primo Colon but maybe Primo would be too much of a stretch. However you look at it they weren’t short of names to insert.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:05 pm
wow, after so many years of being a jobber, it loos like “I am SUPER, I am CRAZY” is actually getting a push of sorts.
Nice ECW even though I would have liked the main event to be a little longer. I preferred last week’s show. Tha SSP was crazy tho because Henry wasn’t as close to the turnbuckle as the wrestlers usually are.

HBK is CLEARED to wrestle!
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I can’t believe foley is going to that shit dump TNA. I thought he would never do that, he is a traitor. He has been in wwe for 12 years and been very supportive to WWE. What the hell is TNA going to do with foley. Guess he won’t be in smackdown vs raw 2009.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:28 pm
That is almost like stone cold going to TNA. I thought WWE had a close relationship to foley.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
RVD i am pretty sure you could’ve fit that all in one post. However I agree that Foley to TNA makes no sense and I hope when he gets their and sees how the morale is so bad backstage he realizes he made a mistake. Good blog, Anthony
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I cant belive school started although im pretty psyched cus its my junior yr!!! Evan Bourne is amazing, that SSP was insane!!! I hope WWE gives him the same push they gave C.M. Punk. Good blog Anthony hope you have a good Senior Year!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
WTF you just started school in Septembers 3rd and I had to go in August 3rd. Where do you live?
WOW your only a senior Anthony.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:22 pm
I knoe foley wanted to do events like hardcore reunion shows and other wrestle events, but TNA is crazy. Same thing with ric flair I think he wanted to do NWA reunion show and other wrestling events and WWE wouldn’t let him
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:25 pm
NY.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
school’s up north always go back to school right after labor day. i’m in miami and i’ve been teaching since the 3rd week of august. of course we get out earlier since we start earlier. it’s all the same amount of school days at the end of the day tho
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Indeed. I live in NY as well and schools just started going back. Though our local high school started a new thing of having the freshmen start a day before the other grades so they can get use to where everything is. I say it’s not gonna help when the halls are full lol.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Yeah thats what the frosh did today. what school u go to shadow?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Well I’m 22 so no school here but its Kingston High.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Wait… Anthony, you went to the Royal Rumble this year???! I was there this year as well and I must say that when Cena returned, I got a massive headache from all the cheering and booing that was taking place!
Where did you sit exactly??
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Right behind the entrance ramp. couldnt see ppl cominn down the ramp but the view of the ring was good.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:53 pm
not trying to break up the sudden talk of school and all but did anyone else catch the line from Morrison when Chavo got in the ring? Morrison said that Kerwin in the production truck messed up. I’m sure that was in reference to Chavo’s Kerwin White gimmick
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
this blog is horrible. take your crappy conversation to e-mails. leave the comment page for just that: comments!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pm
Maybe I’m just easily impressed, or maybe I just enjoy and pay attention to all the small details (probably both), but that Twist of Fate was practically perfect. Some people, especially the bigger guys, aren’t too good at landing and selling it. But for someone as big as Mark Henry to make it look that good made me smile.
And that SSP WAS pretty amazing. And I love Bourne’s kicks. He, MVP, CM Punk, and THE Brian Kendrick probably have the best kicks in the WWE (at least those are the names that I thought of right away).
September 4th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Dude… that is awesome. I sat two sections over from the entrance in Section 15 E Seat 11. The seat was consider the floor but luckily they were elevated and I was on the last row and got a perfect view of the ring.
The show this week was alright. Nothing overly special but it was worth a look. I did like the dirt sheet though.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:09 am
To the guy named dude, this is Anthony’s board. He doesn’t mind the non-wrestling chatter. Your comment isn’t the most perfect example of what comments you think should be posted.
Shane, I didn’t pay much attention to what Morrison had said but that does sound like a tongue in cheek jab lol. I like the what hardy is he banter between miz and morrison.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:15 am
Got to thinking about the first Mynetwork ep of SD. I think having Jeff Hardy and Even Bourne teaming up would be awesome. Maybe against MYP and Benjamin.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:47 am
First off, dude, Anthony didn’t start the chatter. so I’d advise you to take a page out of Cena’s book and STFU.
MNM’s remix of Chavo’s theme was priceless! The Finlay skit was funny, but it got stale really quick for me. Probably because of the horrible Irsh accents. I mean, they were worse than Candice Michelle’s head scissors on RAW.
Oh, would someone mind telling me who the hell is Sid?! I hope it’s not the Sid I’m thinking of.
September 4th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Foley to TNA? And he throws all of his legacy in the WWE behind? Thats suck. I kinnda hope TNA books him to look like a jerk so he could realize that he made a very wrong dicision by joining them.
I don’t think he’ll be called “The Hardcore Legand” or “Miss Foley’s baby boy” in TNA. Also, if he doesn’t wrestle regularly, I think we have a slim chance of seeing him as Mankind, Dude Love or Cactus Jack again.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:41 am
Yep it’s that Sid. Of course Psycho Sid. I dont know why but I hate that guy.
Unless it’s something absolutely ridiculous like sex or the wheather I dont mind chatter on the board as long as it has some relevance to something I discussed. I.e. I discusssed school.
I think in order for the SD! debut on MyNetwork TV to work they gotta focus on just Smackdown wrestlers so that viewers know what their gonna get.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:42 am
I think they are referring to Psycho Sid Vicious/Justice.
If he were to come back, I do not think I would have a problem with it. It would be interesting to see what he looks like and how things are going to be.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:39 am
this is a wrestling web site. not a chit chat board for your little discussions. talk about wrestling. like how ECW was good this week.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:59 am
So many people are talking about Foley to TNA. I gotta be honest I think it’s going to be good for TNA. Personally I would love to see Foley vs. Abyss in a barbed wire massacre match at BFG.
Even if he doesn’t wrestle I still think he can help TNA get more attention and help elevate some of the young guys.
The recent moves between TNA and WWE have been sort of sad for the people leaving, but really each company can smile big with the stars they are taking in. Like Gail Kim and The Truth going to WWE and Foley coming to TNA. I just hope that Kim and Truth don’t get the “Braden Walker” or “Marquis Cor-Von” ECW treatment.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:02 am
You all make me SICK. Foley 2 tna was always going to happen. He likes to help “the little guy” And remember Vince is an ASSHOLE to work with. I dont watch tna but i read the spoilers, it seems to me Foley will be the leader of some faction of old guys vs a faction of young guys. It could be very good if Russo wasnt in charge.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Sting, Nash, Razor Ramon, Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett. All five of these guys didnt raise ratings and I hate to say it but Foley cant either. TNA is going to fuck him up so bad that not even DSW will want him. They just cant do anything right.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Only 6,000 tickets sold for the ppv suday. What a shitty decision to have it there on opening week. I wonder if the browns vs the cowboys have anything to do with it?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:20 am
The only way that TNA would EVER do anything against WWE is if John Cena or Edge would work for them.
Not Foley, Angle, Nash or even Sting will do anything for them.
Also, with the bullshit booking, TNA will not be at any level close to WWE.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:56 am
I’m with Anthony.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
I was gonna agree with you on the rating of the show. But, I just watched the main event. And, just because of that match, I’m giving ECW “Show of the Week” status. Barring what SD! does, of course. I don’t think anyone can deny that the end of that match took them back about ten years. That’s the biggest pop to close a show since Brock Lesnar’s superplex on Big Show that “broke” the ring.
September 4th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
i thought i was suppose to give the “Dub Poll” question. *sniff sniff* next time instead of the “question of the week” call it the “Dub Poll”, or Extreme Poll” or “ECW Poll”… which brings me to MY “Dub Poll” question this week: HOW WOULD YOU CALL THE “Dub Poll”? i like ‘the weekly “One Night Poll”‘ give your ideas.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
To dude, if you didn’t notice by now your the only one complaining about non wrestling chatter. Either deal and just ignore it or go else where.
Tim, the PPV is still gonna sell out. Idk where ya get ya ticket info but that sounds like bull.
September 5th, 2008 at 4:03 am
I agree with Shadow. There not going to sell just 6k tickets just because it’s opening weekend. Now if WWE was having the PPV at noon(CT), then I could see them selling only 6k.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:04 am
Wait… how have ticket sales been sluggish? Also, due to what opening weekend??
September 5th, 2008 at 5:42 am
wrestlingbuff its opening weekend for the NFL!! BTW my Redskins got destroyed last nite!!
September 5th, 2008 at 5:42 am
I think Tim rad it wrong and theres stilll 6k left to sell. Wrestlingbuff- Opening weekened for th NFL
September 5th, 2008 at 5:44 am
Your damn right they were Brandon. Nobody can stop the NY Giants.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:58 am
Once again i will prove you kids wrong. I cant believe you would ever question me!

I was putting togehter a Money in the Bank that I think would kick ass. i was thinking Jeff Hardy, Evan Bourne, THE Brian Kendrik, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, Santino, R Truth and Mr. Kennedy. That would be one hell of a ladder match
September 5th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Thats pretty close to what I had in mind for MITB but Ihave 10 in it because everything is bigger in Texas.
September 5th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Tim, key thing is that was reported on tues. No way in hell will it stay that low.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
No it wont stay that low because they are giving the tickets away on every radio station around here. If it “sells out” its not because people bought all the tickets. This is somthing tna does, and a horrible idea to have the show here on opening weekend.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
True but how often does WWE do something like this. Even the King will be at the opening game for the first quarter. Besides its just Unforgiven
September 5th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Thats my point Anthony. I think the main events are 1 of the problems. Very little build up and most of the guys have NO chance of winning. But i won tickets so im goin. Just seems strange to me.
September 5th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Tim: everything you just posted was in WNW, so why take it from the wrestling observer? also, i need ideas for the “Dub Poll”’s name. my idea is the “One Night Poll” as mentioned above, what’s yours?
September 5th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I’ll use One Night Poll.
Tim: That’s pretty sweet that your going. I found a live stream so thats all Im getting
September 5th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Another nice 45 minutes of ownage. I liked every part of it.
The Dirt Sheet was freakin’ hilarious. Chavo’s entrance theme…Finlay’s brothers…the reference to Chavo’s crap Kerwin White gimmick…just AWESOMENESS. I just wish it’d end with them kicking ass instead of getting their asses kicked.
Nice to see Super Crazy win a match. And God, is he ever over! I like this Gavin Spears guy…he has some potential there. But jobbing people out is not the best way for people to start their careers…sure, people without talent is okay, but not Spears. Well worked match with enough entertaining spots to keep me interested. By the way, why the hell did Crazy suddenly become a SD guy after being drafted to ECW, and then end up getting a small push it seems on ECW? NO SENSE.
Ricky Ortiz is improving every week. And that is very good. Because, had he done every week what he did in his first match, he would be less deservant of a spot on the WWE roster than Snitsky. I’m warming up to this guy. This Ryan Braddock dude though…not sure. Seems like another generic big guy to me. Good match from Ortiz’ side, but the sell on that top rope move was HORRID. Can’t see Braddock amount to much, even though he has the same (kayfabe) last name as the legendary Cinderella Man Jim Braddock.
Damn, well this sucks. The democrats (yay!) are being represented by (boo) Candice and (boo) Batista, while the republicans (boo) are being represented by Hickie James (mixed) and Mr. Kennedy (MEGA YAY!)? What’s up with that?
The main event was a KILLER. Seriously, it was just that good. Match of the week, unless someone works some magic on SmackDown. Just had a natural flow to it and entertaining all the way. It worked very well as a showcase for Bourne, too. Rubbing shoulders with these guys is gonna help him get over tremendously. The finish was GODLIKE. Serious ownage.
___________________________________
All in all, ECW was a very entertaining show that utilized most of its potential, which is more than I can say for Raw. FREAKING HILARIOUS DIRT SHEET, some new faces got good time to show their stuff and good wrestlers aplenty went all-in in the main event. Great. I’m very pleased with my purchase, err, download.
9/10
September 5th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
and i have to agree with Tim on… well, everything. and dont forget that at unforgiven the main events are most of the show, and with no build up, (and that no-build up takes most of the show so the rest of the matches are not built up) so unforgiven has very little buzz! hell, without H2K i would not bother downloa…. errr… buy it.
September 5th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Ryan Braddock reminds me of knox, maybe thats because i havn’t seen enough of him. and i promise you smackdown will top that, the main event is HHH vs. Khali!! we’re getting a summerslam main event on a smackdown!!! the undercard, though, not sure.. it has the icky “Gold Retard” Shelton Benjamin (great on the mic though) vs. the even ickyer MVP, who sucks both at the ring AND the mic! we also have hardy vs. The worst wrestler brian kendrick!! without HHH vs. Khali this show is going to be a waste of time… anyway, watch the show until the main event
September 5th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
hows that for an hbk impersination?
September 5th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Tim, I’ll say srry if i came off as rude. Sometimes ya comments can seem abit rough around the edges. But cool thing with you going to see it. I tried to see GAB but didn’t get a chance to get online to order early enough
September 6th, 2008 at 5:47 am
“Sometimes ya comments can seem abit rough around the edges”
that’s why he’s the best damn heel in the blog
September 6th, 2008 at 5:49 am
that and because he once called eddie (R.I.P.) DEADdie
September 6th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Ah yes, I remember that and the huge amount of people he pissed off then.
September 7th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
thats why there is NO ONE better than him at being heel!edge should cut a promo on eddie to gain some REAL heat, maybe have him come out in eddies car (R.I.P. also) just to piss vickie off, and start the first ever effective heel on heel feud of edge vs. la familia
