Pre-Show Notes:
As you may have heard, Brock Lesnar won the UFC World Heavyweight Championship over the weekend. Lesnar dominated one of my favorite fighters and UFC Legend, Randy “The Natural” Couture. Lesnar is a beast. He could potentially dominate the UFC for months & years to come. He’ll defend his title later on against Frank Mir or Antonio Nogueira once they have their title fight. By the way, I was 3-1 on my predicted fights with the main event as my only incorrect pick.
Now, some people e-mailed me last week and asked why I didn’t comment on the presidential election, if I was a “sore loser” or something. Well, to be honest, I’m not mad or happy. It’s one of the “eh” deals. I read some of the comments on the comment board about how great Obama would be. I usually keep politics out of this stuff, hints why it’s in my “Pre-Show Notes” section. But to tell me, someone who follows politics & knows what proposals will screw up & will do good, that Obama will be good for us?
One thing I need to clarify before I move on is my comment about Regal devaluing the IC title. Now, for those that have been reading my blogs since I started here in 2006 it’s that I think William Regal is one of the more underrated workers on the WWE roster. In my opinion, he’s the best technical wrestler in the WWE right now. I always wanted him to work a longer program with Jamie Noble, since Noble is also a great technical wrestler. What I meant with my comment was how the title switch was done. I was a bam, bam, bam, and we had a new champion. I thought the squash match took away from the title switch. In other words, they could have handled it differently. They gave them the big time introductions. In my opinion, they could have cut out some of the other crap on the show, like the Mickie-Beth match or the Mike Knox-D’Lo squash match and given Regal & Santino time to put on a great match. I think if they had been given longer to develop a story in the ring, Regal’s pop for winning would have been bigger.
Now, let’s get to RAW is Blogged!!!
RAW is Blogged:
RAW is live from Atlanta, Georgia!!!
Opening Segment: Stephanie McMahon & the RAW Superstars
Stephanie came out for a Q&A session. Randy Orton was up first and he asked why he wasn’t getting a title shot and why John Cena was. Stephanie gave some BS answer and Orton seemed satisfied. Cody Rhodes got on the mic and asked why Orton wasn’t punished for attacking Ted DiBiase and why he’s on Orton’s team for Survivor Series. She said they could be adults and deal with it themselves. Ah, that’s where the UFC is better than WWE. If two guys hate each other, they fight. She then made Orton against CM Punk in a 30-man Lumberjack match. Santino then got on the mic and highlighted that Akon was in the arena. He looked to be a few rows back. I guess he couldn’t afford the “right at ringside” seats. Santino pulled out some crapped rap and said that William Regal wasn’t in a restaurant but he just got served. Santino = comedy gold. JBL got on the mic and asked where Vince was. Stephanie said that Vince was out of the picture for now. I guess he’s dead again? JBL isn’t happy about the match with HBK. HBK got on the match and talked about what would happen if he didn’t wait 6 days. He then jumped off the platform and attacked JBL. A good way to get Survivor Series built between these two & their teams is to have their members get involved. But what do I know, I’m not a writer. What happens? Everybody clears the ring. This whole segment seemed like an ego boost for Stephanie and made the Superstars look like pawns in Stephanie’s evil game.
Match #1: Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria
Cole & Lawler talked about a Divas Survivor Series team match. Yay! Instead of filling the spot with a title match, they’re making a pointless match between 5 Divas from RAW and 5 Divas from Smackdown. Kelly Kelly started us off before Victoria made her way down. It was a quick match will Kelly picking up the victory. Yawn.
Winner: Kelly Kelly
Post match, Victoria attacked Kelly before the RAW Divas ran down to the ring. As Victoria left, Beth Phoenix attacked her. What’s funny is how these Divas couldn’t get along and now they’re working as a team. I know girls who argued years ago and now, they still don’t talk to each other. Don’t you just love pro wrestling?
Match #2: Batista vs. Manu
They noted this was Manu’s debut. Well, what a great debut it was for Umaga Jr. as he got destroyed. I want to take this opportunity to voice my displeasure in the burial of younger stars by main eventers. I know Batista is the main event guy and it’s Manu’s singles debut but this is ridiculous. Do a double DQ or something. Have Rhodes interfere or something. This is ridiculous when a guy who looks like a monster gets killed by Batista.
Winner: Batista
Post match, Batista told Orton that he was tired of hearing him whine for 3 years. He told Batista not to worry about him but to worry about Sunday. YAY!
After the break, Stephanie McMahon was on the stage and she introduced Chief Jay Strongbow. How should I put this…what the f*ck!?
Cole & Lawler then went down the Survivor Series cards. Lawler called the Casket Match one of the most terrifying matches in the WWE. Well, I would put Hell in a Cell, Steel Cage, Inferno, TLC, and Ladder in front of Casket as well as I Quit, Falls Count Anywhere, and even a Tables match.
Meanwhile, Orton found Rhodes backstage and got on him for backing down from Batista. He threatened to kick Rhodes off his SS team. Rhodes told him to keep talking since that’s what he’s best at.
Back in the arena, Todd Grisham introduced a package on Evan Bourne. It basically highlighted his injury, bringing the crowd down, before Grisham brought Bourne out to “update” us on his condition. He came out with a boot on his right leg. Bourne talked about picking up where he left off before Mike Knox came out. Can’t he get released…please? He stared Bourne down before walking off. Did Bourne take Mike Knox’s beard comb or something?
Rey Mysterio was making his way to the ring and he ran into Shawn Michaels in the hall. He told them to cut the music and talked about the people he had walked to the ring with. He joked about walking to the ring. Just think ladies and gentlemen, a few weeks ago, he was in a heated battle with Chris Jericho. Now, he’s crackin’ jokes! Dolph Ziggler showed up and HBK highlighted again his & Mysterio’s match before walking off.
Match #3: The Miz & John Morrison vs. Rey Mysterio & Shawn Michaels
As your typical tag match would have it, the action started off quickly. They both executed a dive on their opponent before we headed to the first commercial break. The heels worked over Mysterio before HBK got the hot tag. They had a cool finish where Mysterio hit the 619, HBK hit the Sweet Chin Music on Miz, then Morrison hit a Superkick on HBK so Miz could get the pin. It was good that at least one young team got over.
Winner: The Miz & John Morrison
Another John Cena package aired. Then, Chris Jericho told Stephanie McMahon that when John Cena returned, chaos would reign on RAW. Yeah, and we had a calm scene during the Adamle Administration. Elsewhere, Kane met up with JBL. JBL said he was a great leader because he could relate to his men. Last political related comment but Obama doesn’t relate to me at all. Anyway, Kane mentioned that JBL’s hobby was financial analysis while his was electrocuting men’s groins with car batteries (an ode to Shane O’Mac).
Elsewhere, CM Punk went down how frustrating the last few weeks had been. Yeah, winning the tag titles and being left off the show will do that to a man. He said that Orton’s kick was a statement but with the lumberjacks, he wouldn’t be able to escape. Punk said he didn’t get everything handed to him like Orton but he would get payback. Punk once again proves that he’s a great talker. I just can’t wait until they turn him heel and they get awesome heel promos that guys could take notes from.
Match #4: Cryme Tyme vs. JBL & Kane
This was basically a squash. Kane was about to nail JTG with a chokeslam before JBL stepped in and hit the Clothesline from Hell for the win. There ya go! Bury a formidable tag team!
Winner: Kane & JBL
Backstage, Kofi Kingston was talking with Evan Bourne before Mike Knox ran in and took out Kofi. Knox then pushed over Bourne with his leg before hitting Bourne in his hurt leg with a crutch. By a show of hands, who would rather watch Mike Knox over Evan Bourne? That’s what I thought. Not a damn one of you. By a show of hands, how many of you think it’s wise to bury a Tag Team Champion for a guy who will never draw (Knox)? That’s what I thought. None of you again.
After the break, they recapped Knox’s assault on Evan Bourne.
Match #5: William Regal vs. Matt Hardy
Regal talked about how Atlanta displayed what was wrong with the United States. He then cut a pro-British promo. Matt Hardy then made his way down to the ring. The action spilled outside and they both got counted out. They brawled after the match which is always fun to see.
Winner: No Contest
In-Ring Segment: Chris Jericho
Lillian Garcia introduced the World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho. Cole mentioned his title defense at Survivor Series. Man, this thing has gotten a lot of build! (Sarcasm intended). Jericho then said we’ve all heard Cena’s story so he thought he would tell us his. He then talked about winning the Undisputed Championship after beating The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. He said that’s bigger than anything John Cena’s done. Wait, didn’t he hold the WWE Championship for a year? He mentioned all of the stuff he’s done since he’s returned. He then mentioned that Cena’s never beaten him. Just wait, Jericho.
Main Event - Lumberjack Match: Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
Randy Orton came out first followed by CM Punk. Did you know that Orton wanted Punk’s music and actually used it one time? Vince & Co. said it didn’t fit Orton’s character. Could this be the end of the potentially great feud between Orton & Punk? We’ll find out! During the match, Lawler explained how the Lumberjack Match originated from actual lumberjacks fighting within a circle of other lumberjacks. Sure, and the Casket Match originated from Ancient Mayans fighting during the Winter Solstice. Punk did a plancha towards the end of the match that was cool before Orton got in the ring and hit the RKO for the win. Well, your tag teams champs have officially been destroyed.
Winner: Randy Orton
After the match, all hell broke loose as predicted.
I give this RAW:
3 out of 4 ring posts
They did an alright job of building towards Survivor Series. The thing that bothers me is they wanted until 6 days before the event to really try & build it. Once again, the WWE doesn’t do a great job of getting us ready for a big PPV as far as long term build is concerned.

I have to disagree with your rating of RAW this week Luke, I personally would have given Raw a 1, maybe 1.5 out of four. Not saying that the wrestling wasn’t any good. The actual wrestling in every match was good (especially Punk/Orton), but as far as the backstage segments, the beginning segment in the ring, and everything else, it all seemed thrown together to try and get as many people on the show as possible.
Why was Chief Jay Strongbow there? Why did they cut to Lawler and Cole immediately after and NEVER address Strongbow for the rest of the show. Why show Akon on camera multiple times throughout the broadcast? Why did they show that video package of Bourne (last time I checked he was on the ECW roster). And for the love of God why have Mike Knox come out to interrupt Bourne’s interview, only to say NOTHING.
This Raw just didn’t make sense to me. And I’m not even gonna talk about Kelly Kelly beating Victoria, or Cryme Tyme being turned into jobbers.
Oh, and one more thing. The lumberjack match really does have roots in lumber camps. It ensured that fights between two men were settled, and that no one had a chance to back out. And trust me, those kind of fights have been around a heck of a lot longer than the WWE.
Let’s hope Survivor Series isn’t as much of a cluster fuck as Raw was, because if it is, Cena will probably just come out and squash Jericho, and we all know that’s exactly what everyone wants to see.

HEY LUKE! I watched my first UFC ppv this weekend. It was good, i was in a bar with about 300people. I was the only one cheering for brock so i kept my mouth shut. When the ref stopped the fight the ENTIRE bar went dead silent. So i yelled out “Who woulda thought a prof. wrestler is the toughest man on the planet!”
The bar tender then told me to “get out of the bar before all these jerks in the Tap Out shirts kick your ass.” I took hes advice and made my way to the door with all these guys eye ballin me. As a left i hollered back into the bar “I always knew prof wrestles were tough, just didnt know mma guys were such Pussys!” I will admit my ride was waiting for me at the door, which i was very happy to see because that comment went over like a led balloon. Any way CONGATS to pro wrestling fans. Pro Wrestlers are NO JOKE!
good blog this week luke.

Three things…..
Lack of title matches: For the first four years of this event, it had no title matches. With this card, there are 2 titles matches while other champions like Punk, Kingston, Regal, Benjamin, and Matt Hardy are in elimination matches. Carlito and Primo are the only champions not on the show, and I doubt those who care are the majority.
And you knew some girls who held grudges, so all women do????? Okay.
“Ah, that’s where the UFC is better than WWE. If two guys hate each other, they fight.” ??????????????????????????????????

I thought Raw was okay. Could’ve been better seeing as it might be my last Raw in a while depending on the main event of Survivor Series. Yes I will actually stop watching Raw if he wins this Sunday. If he didnt get injured and won this Sunday I’d begrudgingly watch it. But to have that bullshit happen calls for extreme measures.
Brock winning was unbelievable. Me and my friends just went crazy at the end. Neighbors called the cops on us.
Glad to see the RKO back in action.
M&M2 vs. Rey and Shawn was good. Shawn was hilarious pre-match.
Even though I’m probably the #1 person aganist Diva wrestling I’m interested in this Survivor Series match with all the Diva’s in it. By the way did anyone see what Candice was wearing? Or rather not wearing?

One thing that bothers me in WWE and always has is their memory! Cena has beaten Jericho, Jericho’s last match before he was ‘Fired’ was against Cena, he had a long heel fued with him!!
Womens segment was saved by the fact that Mickie James looked amazing!
The comment about Orton and Punk’s music is funny, they say it didn;t fit is character so he says a big FU to WWE by get tattoo’s all over his arms like CM Punk, next he’ll be growing his hair, drinking Pepsi and getting his lip pierced.
Anyone see a Morrison/HBK fued soon? that would be cool, but make Morrison Like Billy Kidman used to be, a loner, make him look grungy I hate this pretty boy crap.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
“One thing that bothers me in WWE and always has is their memory! Cena has beaten Jericho, Jericho’s last match before he was ‘Fired’ was against Cena, he had a long heel fued with him!!”
Jericho is a heel and lies. In the late-’80s, Andre the Giant and Bobby Heenan completely ignored any Andre loss and kept saying he was undefeated.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
I saw a clip of Orton walking to the ring with that music and it didn’t fit him. He’s too pretty to have such a hard edged song. His new theme fits his persona now very well.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
RAW has offically been renamed Monday Night Burial, I am so sick of great wrestlers getting squashed, and buried, (Noble, Punk, Kofi, Etc..)
November 18th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
RAW last night should be called monday night ClusterFuck
November 18th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Luke, you sound a bit perturbed today.
Raw wasn’t outstanding but it was fine to me. We should all know by now not to look to Raw for quality matches, we have ECW and Smackdown for that.
The main event was good and HBK was gold last night. I am happy that M&M2 got the win and the way they won. Loved Morrison’s excitement post-match.
I am fine with the Divas match at Survivor Series. Everyone isn’t cool on the Raw side. Didn’t you see the look Mickie James gave Beth after Victoria was laid out? Victoria deserves better by the way.
Santino was gold with that rap also. Cena may have competition if he was ever to bring back the rap gimmick, lol.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
why’s every one down on mike knox? he’s my favourite heel in the company- he really needs a push and could easily be raw’s answer to Kozlov.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
I see I’ve been gone longer than I thought. From the looks of things, I haven’t missed anything noteworthy.
Mike Knox is the answer to nothing. Mike Knox should go back to covering up Kelly Kelly, at least that’s when his character meant something. Mike Knox is now a rugged idiot who I guess forgot how wrestle because he’s been unimpressive since his old ECW days.
Wait, Luke, in your blog, you said that Jericho said that Cena NEVER beat him? So I guess we’re going to forget SummerSlam 2005 corrct? I didn’t know that ppv fell off the face of the earth. My fault.
The Divas Survivor Series match bothers me. A few years ago, it’d be a big deal, but when only 5 out of the 10 women can wrestle, why bother?
How the hell did CM Punk go to World Heavyweight Champion to Tag Team Champion? Just how long was CM Punk on top for anyway?
Out of all the bullshit, I enjoyed the HBK/Y2J Matches. I still call that feud of the year, if not, then it’s Edge/Undertaker.
One last thing, I was glancing over the Survivor Series card and it could deliver. Survivor Series is all about the Traditional Survivor Series match. What sense does it make for all them to be short matches, and that’s what I’m afraid we’ll get. Good talent, in short rushed matches, making room for what? Cena and his incredible return to Boston and winning the WWE Title for an ASTOUNDING 4th time in the last 3 years? Gee, I can’t wait.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Raw got a 1/4 in my book. It just wasn’t entertaining to me. I swear (and I know that I read it as a certainty, but I still swear) if WWE has Cena bury Jericho at Survivor Series, then I am done with the WWE.
The only thing that would change that is if they put him back in a feud with HBK. If they keep him in the title picture just so they can build for Cena-Batista without having to have either of those two meatheads get pinned, then I am sooooo done with this company. Keep feeding their ego’s, imo. Just get Y2J out of there completely if you really think that Big Dave and Cena are going to save Raw. I can count at least ONE viewer that is not going to be tuning in or ordering anymore PPVs.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I guess you don’t understand wrestling at all. Just because Manu and Punk lost doesn’t mean it was a squash match. Manu put up a great fight against Batista and CM Punk put up a great match in the best lumberjack match in a few years.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
JOAT, apparently Jericho’s forgotten about that one. Unless I heard it wrong, I’m pretty sure he said that. Apparently, they like to forget things, like how Batista & HBK had been feuding and then they magically squashed their differences for their tag match.
Matt, I do understand wrestling a lot. I’ve been watching it since for about 10 years and writing blogs for almost 3. If Manu put up a great fight, then I’m the greatest MMA fighter in the world. The match was about 4 minutes and Batista pretty much squashed him. They gave him enough offense so it wouldn’t be an all out squash but having a “monster” lose in his debut isn’t a good thing. Wouldn’t you agree? Punk put up a decent match but why squash one tag champ backstage and then have the other one lose?
BDJ, I would echo that sentiment but I didn’t know if anybody knew the word, clusterfuck.
Chris, what I mean by “Ah, that’s where the UFC is better than WWE. If two guys hate each other, they fight.” is that in the WWE, we might not see two guys ever feud. In the UFC, if two guys want to kill each other or the crowd wants a certain fight, they get it. In WWE, it might be years before we see something we want. As for the comment about the girls, nearly all that I’ve met hold grudges against somebody that never go away. In the real world, they don’t magically squash their differences & team up together.
November 18th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
“As for the comment about the girls, nearly all that I’ve met hold grudges against somebody that never go away. In the real world, they don’t magically squash their differences & team up together.”
Maybe not by choice but being told to work together by their bosses is different. If you are paired up with enemies or have to fight your friends, you still should want to win.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Raw was not bad at least to me I enjoyed it.
Opening Segment: Stephanie McMahon & the RAW Superstars: was dull, about the only exciting thing was HBK attacking JBL. the rest of it was wrestlers complaining and one guy trying to be funny and he’s not(Santino).
Match #1: Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria: typical Diva’s match, the excitment after words was more fun to watch, I was amazed Beth and her team were actually working together on the attack on Victoria. A shame Victoria is on Smakedown, it would be nice to see her face Beth for the Women’s title. she deserves a shot at it more the Diva title.
Match #2: Batista vs. Manu: I have to agree they should have made Manu put up a better fight more a threat even if he got A DQ win.
This new group of Second Generation wrestlers like Ted JR, Manu, Cody Rhodes they are treating them badly. What is the sence of bring them up to the main roster if your treating them like life time jobbers.
why was Mike Knox brought to Raw aside from his attack later on Evan Bourne and Koffi. All he does is stare at people and walk away, so boring.
Match #3: The Miz & John Morrison vs. Rey Mysterio & Shawn Michaels: the match was good well done, nice to See Morrison and Miz going over Shawn and REY. They should have Morrison in singles matches again, Miz while he has improved he is not a favorite of mine.
I enjoyed Kane’s little Talk to JBL, bottom line don’t get him angery, Kane doesn’t care who it is he destroys.
Match #4: Cryme Tyme vs. JBL & Kane: yes I agree they buried another good team. S eems to me Cryme Tyme has lost as many times as MVP. Except there is a Reason behind MVP’s loss angle.
Match #5: William Regal vs. Matt Hardy a quick match which could have been better with more time.
In-Ring Segment: Chris Jericho: Jericho’s memory loss comes out here, plus what I like to call the famious words….”I’ve never been beaten” Everytime a wrestler says those words they lose.
Main Event - Lumberjack Match: Randy Orton vs. CM Punk: great match , and even a better Brawl afterwords.
Raw was fun to watch.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Yeah Chris, you should want to win but the way they just ho-hum into a team & act like nothing’s wrong just insults the audience. Say for instance if Kozlov & Triple H just pair up and act like nothing’s wrong & the announcers don’t make light of their situation, it insults your audience.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:05 pm

If Kozlov and Triple H teamed together right now, they would either work together just enough to win or get into a huge fight.
Plus, WWE.com is teasing the babyface women not getting along with their heel partners. I noticed that Beth pretty much ignored her babyface partners when she did her run-in and made no effort to be friendly with them.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Yeah, because that whole “can they co-exist” angle is so played out.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Man oh man what can I say first off it’s been a second since I commented on this RAW blog and rightfully so b/c RAW is the worse brand out of all 3 brands in WWE period and this is suppose to be labeled the so called “A Show” of the WWE ? And just by looking at the how many post are on these blogs now are not even funny at all anymore when I first started posting comments on here it would damn near be 100 post for one blog and now it’s barely 20 ? (And no I don’t blame Luke or any of the guys here at WNW I put the blame on the state of which wrestling is right now)thats one way I know that wrestling is in a period of rut.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Here’s my opinion on RAW, this is suppose to be the A brand show in WWE but the way creative handles storylines and feuds every Monday night has it looking like the C brand show which I think it is now and WWE has no one to blame but themselves for constant low ratings and creating half-ass ideas or one minute they push a superstar to the top one min and then the next he damn near at the bottom of the barrel and WWE has been notorious for doing this over the years constantly. Examples: Shelton Benjamin, CM Punk, & Carlito.
RAW in my opinion looks exactly like ECW in 2007 which had terrible ratings and at one point in time was going to lose its televison contract. All I can say is that maybe Vince will shake up some the ideas of the creative team on RAW.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:50 am
“Yeah, because that whole “can they co-exist” angle is so played out.”
Which way should they go if teasing that angle is played out but faces and heels on the same team getting along well enough to not fight each other during the match is insulting to the audience? I read other columns today that liked the idea of teaming heel and face women together since that is rare in WWE’s female matches.
November 19th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Hey, who perfers the Smackdown V Raw SS team matches?
I think in ‘06 was the last time they had them..
Wasn’t that more entertaining instead of the same old face V heel.
We had JBL teaming with Rey & Batista, who teamed with Orton and Lashley..
We had brands attacking other brands on each others shows.. We saw Batista getting his ass handed to him by both Kane & Big Show.. There was a massive 6 week build up over brand supremacy..
Now it kinda feels like another PPV..
November 21st, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I second that notion. Back in 2005, was maybe the last great stables feud in RAW vs SmackDown. I admit, the buildup was superb, the teams were great, and I was waiting for them to do this all along, but when it got to the match, it was ok. The match didn’t really live up to the hype. I think was only 20 min. long. I was hoping for a 45 Minute classic to really find out which brand was the best, but it was ehh to be honest.I was hoping for them to do a 3 Team Elimination match between RAW, SmackDown, & ECW, but I guess that idea fell on deaf ears.
It does feel like another ppv, but what do you expect? This is why I don’t bother, I just watch Youtube and Daily Motion for my good WWF fix.
November 22nd, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Yer Raw V Smackdown was awesome. I remember watching it with my brother. I was going for Raw & he was going for Smackdown.. It made it so much for fun to watch. You had Carlio & Masters two up and coming heels joining froces with Big Show & Kane (both faces and tag champs at the time)
Also how shit is team HBK… if HBK was team of the other team, it would be awesome..
Cryme Tyme are good in the ring.. but their promos/backstage segments are terrible..
I never understand them, maybe it is because I am white..
A few months ago when they were co commentating with Miz & JoMo.. they just got their asses handed to them
Khali. Enough said.
Morrison - “Your father is so white, he wears his pants higher than HBK”
Miz - “Your mother is so fat, she needs Mark Henry’s belt extension”
Morrison - “Your sister is so nasty, she has less teeth than Chris Jericho”
Cryme Time responded with pretty much “Yo yo yo yo”
