RAW is Blogged: Your Days Are Numbered
By Luke Parks on October 7th, 2008

Pre-Show Notes:
Last night, the WWE hit it out of the park with their No Mercy PPV. I thought some of the stuff was ok but other stuff was flippin’ awesome. Did I really just say that? Flippin’ awesome? Anyway, the crowd at the Rose Garden was hot! Remember, pro wrestling just returned to Oregon a few years ago because of some crappy ban. Either way, Matt Hardy and Mark Henry had a decent match to open the show and the hot crowd sent it from “decent” to “good.” The women’s match was next and it was a better effort from both of them. I think it’s time to have Beth drop the title to someone else. They followed this up with the horrid angle between Rey Mysterio and Kane with a DQ finish. I guess that’s all they could do so it ranked in my “ok” category.

They planted seeds for a future Survivor Series match involving MVP, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Ted DiBiase, Kofi Kingston, Manu, and Cody Rhodes. That was fine with me. The crap involving JBL & Batista was just that, crap. They destroyed JBL and gave in to selfish Batista. Oh well. Triple H and Jeff Hardy put on one amazing show. They took their time building the match and then the finish happened perfectly. Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels also put on one hell of a show. Words can’t describe their match and it even got topped off with Jericho losing a tooth!

Enough of the bull, let’s get to RAW is Blogged!!!

RAW is Blogged:
Before I start, as most people know, I’m an avid Red Sox fan. So, I will be getting updates on my phone. If by some chance I miss something, please do not have a cow. I know there are some of you that just love when I miss the smallest of minute details. You’ve been warned!

Opening Segment: Chris Jericho, Batista
Jericho started us off by telling us that he would be in charge tonight because Mike Adamle was in an “high level” meeting with Shane & Stephanie McMahon. He whined some about Shawn Michaels, the fans, and how his body hurt. It wasn’t long before Batista made his way down to a huge ovation. Batista told Jericho that he had a number for him and that number was however many days until he got a title shot. Jericho said he would make Batista fail and his name would be synonymous with failure. Batista responded by giving him a spinebuster! Great opening segment.

After the commercial break, the cut to a replay of Jericho announcing during the commercial break that Batista would face JBL again for the #1 Contender’s slot with Jericho as the special referee.

Match #1: Jamie Noble & Mickie James vs. Glamerella
Prior to the match, they showed William Regal sitting on his throne with Layla at his side. Santino told the Seattle crowd before the match that he had a new favorite NBA team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. A little background information, the Seattle SuperSonics left Seattle and went to Oklahoma City, hints Santino’s new team. The match didn’t last too long before Santino got the win by grabbing Noble’s tights in a rollup.
Winners: Santino Marella & Beth Phoenix

After the match, Santino got out of the ring celebrating. Jamie Noble chased after him but he got away and William Regal attacked Noble. I mean, Regal went flippin’ crazy and tried to destroy Noble.

Backstage, Shawn Michaels said he had plenty of gas left in the tank and would take Cade out.

Match #2: Kofi Kingston vs. Ted DiBiase
The Jamaican Sensation made his way out for a match. Flanked by his pals, the Second Generation Sons, Ted DiBiase made his way down to the ring. CM Punk then made his presence felt when he came down to even the odds. Back & forth match that didn’t last very long. Kofi went for the “Booah, Booah” stuff and got distracted by Rhodes then DiBiase hit the Million Dollar Slam for the win.
Winner: Ted DiBiase

I don’t care for a finish like that. It makes the face look like an idiot. I’ve probably ripped this before but any idiot who is in control and they stop in the middle of the match to mess with a goofball on the ring apron deserves to lose.

This week’s WWE Bullshit Factoid of the Week stated that last Monday, RAW was the most watched entertainment program on cable. I guess if they said sports, they would have had to fess up that Monday Night Football probably beat them.

They then aired a video that recapped the match between John Cena & Batista. They aired another one later in the evening that was also pretty good. Hell, I might actually like Cena when he returns.

Backstage, Randy Orton asked to help Chris Jericho so he reluctantly accepted.

Elsewhere, Dolph Ziggler tried to intro himself to Kane & Mark Henry along with Teddy Atlas. Is it me or is this guy about as annoying as Rico used to be and how the expression “WWE Universe” is now?

Match #3: Rey Mysterio & Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry & Kane
The heels controlled the match early. The pairing of Henry & Kane worked well. After dominating Rey for a little while, Hardy got the hot tag for the go home sequence. The ending came when Hardy & Mysterio were in control but Henry caught Rey and threw him into the top rope. That caused Matt Hardy to fall and Kane to hit a chokeslam for the win.
Winner: Kane & Mark Henry

Match #4: No Disqualification Match - Shawn Michaels vs. Lance Cade
It must be the night of the quick match. Lance Cade put Michaels through a table. When they got back in the ring, HBK got a chair and proceeded to beat the holy hell out of Lance Cade for the win. Reminded me of Rock-Austin at Wrestlemania X-Seven in Houston.
Winner: Shawn Michaels

Post match saw Michaels beat the hell out of Cade some more.

After the commercial, they had another BS factoid that said Smackdown was the highest rated program in the history of MyNetworkTV. Well, it’s only been around for 2 years so it’s not a giant achievement.

In the ring, Jerry Lawler was hyping up Cyber Sunday. For Santino’s opponent, you can choose Rowdy Roddy Piper, Goldust, or the Honky Tonk Man. My money is on Honky Tonk Man. What’s funny is Lawler called the Honky Tonk Man, Honky, most of the segment. It was a racial slur used against white people. Pretty funny to say the lease.

In-Ring Segment: The Great Khali
Khali came out and griped about the stuff with Johnny Knoxville. It looked like a work to me. Knoxville asked him how long his dick was. Anyway, Khali hosted the Kiss Cam which led to him kissing Lillian.

After the break, The Miz & John Morrison came out for commentary. Jillian Hall was in the ring and she proceeded to sing some Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

Match #5: Jillian Hall vs. Kelly Kelly
After Kelly came out dressed in “thug” gear, Cryme Tyme came out to do commentary. I didn’t keep up with the match too much because Miz & Morrison were going toe-to-toe with Cryme Tyme on commentary. Cole & King couldn’t even call the match. It went from being dumb to being absolutely funny.
Winner: Kelly Kelly

Main Event: #1 Contender’s Match - Batista vs. JBL
If being the special guest referee wasn’t enough, Jericho made William Regal a guest timekeeper and Randy Orton a special commentator, thus stacking the deck against Batista and creating a John Cena deal. The match basically involved Batista getting cheated by Jericho, Regal, the water boy and even the camera man. Ok, maybe not the last two but they stacked the deck as much as possible against Batista. Mike Adamle just happened to return from Connecticut all the way to Seattle within 2 hours to bring a guest referee and make an announcement afterwards.
Winner: Batista

After the match, Mike Adamle announced that Jericho would defend his title against Batista at Cyber Sunday with a special guest referee. The choices would be Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, or Stone Cold Steve Austin.

I give this RAW:
3 out of 4 ring posts
The show was ok but the logic behind it was odd. The GM has a meeting the day of the show he’s in charge of. Instead of appointing a “Vice-GM” or someone, he appoints the champion of the show. Interesting. For the opponent of the guy who’s trying to take the title from him, Jericho appoints a guy who tried to kill him at the start of the year. This is wrestling folks, please remember. So, Adamle shows up at the last possible second with a referee in tow and a few announcements. I liked the show but when you step back & think about it a little, some of that shit makes no sense at all.
