Booking The Miz, Wild Crowd, Lesnar's WWE Future, Where Dolph As Champ Leaves Swagger

What was the point of having The Miz win the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the non-televised Wrestlemania Pre-Show only to drop it back to Wade Barrett the following night? It doesn't make any sense.

A lot of readers want to know why WWE would book The Miz over in the Wrestlemania Pre-Show only to have him go under the following night on Raw. This isn't an unusual occurrence as I'm reminded of Christian's World Heavyweight Championship win against Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules 2011 only to drop it to Randy Orton the following Tuesday at the Smackdown taping. While this was different, it was still head scratching considering WWE put Christian over in a 21-minute match on pay-per-view. As it turns out, it was all part of an angle to turn him heel. I interviewed Edge, Christian's good friend, and asked him about the decision and he said knowing the big picture he was fine with it. I don't know if Miz winning the title only to drop it the following night is part of a bigger plan or if they just wanted to generate hype for the Pre-Show but I have learned to be careful before judging outcomes too quickly. Christian ended up the top heel on Smackdown and had one of the best runs of his career after what appeared on the surface to be a very questionable creative call.

What was your reaction to the crowd from this week's WWE Raw in East Rutherford, New Jersey?

The crowd on this week's WWE Raw was awesome and was the complete opposite of what we saw at Wrestlemania 29. A hot crowd can take a mediocre show and make it excellent. Raw would have been good had it not been for the crowd but they made it that much better. The northeast crowd filled with transplants from all across the world for Wrestlemania weekend threw off storylines by cheering heels and booing babyfaces but that never matters. The energy they brought to the show helped it immensely and everyone backstage felt it as well. A hot crowd energizes workers and this provided a huge shot in the arm to an exhausted roster.

Will Brock Lesnar achieve a great role in WWE after Wrestlemania 29?

Brock Lesnar is 1-2 since returning to WWE last May and is signed on to work a part-time schedule over the next two years. There is no way I can accurately predict how he'll be used going forward (as it likely hasn't been determined) but WWE will continue to book him in high profile pay-per-view matches they feel will draw big. WWE is booking Lesnar as more of a "must-see" spectacle rather than a dominant force. Wins and losses seem to mean less and less these days as Ryback went under to Mark Henry at Wrestlemania yet concluded Raw with the WWE title belt in his hand. Dolph Ziggler did a job and walked out the next night the World Heavyweight Champion. I can't explain it but the fans don't seem to care.

With Dolph Ziggler winning the World Heavyweight Championship and most likely setting up a feud between him and Alberto Del at Extreme Rules do you think that's an indication that Jack Swagger's push is over?

I am interested to see how WWE books Dolph Ziggler as champion. Remember Christian's World Heavyweight Championship win at Extreme Rules that lasted less than 48 hours that I mentioned above? We'll see how much confidence WWE shows in him as champion but it does look like Alberto Del Rio will be out for "revenge" following this week's WWE Raw. As for Jack Swagger, he's due in court in Biloxi, MS on Tuesday to respond to a DWI charge from his February arrest. I am interested to see what happens as many felt like Swagger was finished after he was arrested just days after winning the Elimination Chamber. Vince McMahon had him push his court date back and kept the Wrestlemania bout intact. Vince was reportedly souring on Swagger after he made the decision so we'll see how it plays out. Regardless of what happens to Swagger, WWE has a new stellar mouthpiece in Zeb Colter.

Last nights RAW was the first time I’ve thought that 3 hours wasn’t enough! Humming Fandango’s theme may be this years equivalent to the YES chant!

Last nights RAW was amazing and it is completely thanks to that crowd! For the first time I can remember, 3 hours wasn’t enough! Humming Fandango’s theme may be this years equivalent to the YES chant!

Jack Thwagger will be left in the courtroom, and then sent for rehab hopefully. If it wasn’t for Coulter he’d be banging on an indy door begging for a match. Unfortunately with all his credentials he brings nothing to the ring. He couldn’t help himself, it didn’t help when he teamed with Ziggler (and Vicki) – it’s him, sad but true.

The Raw crowd last nite was awesome, you could just feel the electricity. And, King/Cole/JBL had a great time with it. It really brought the show to life.

“Unfortunately with all his credentials he brings nothing to the ring”

Nonsense! Swagger is excellent in the ring… There’s a couple of guys on the roster that may be better, but that’s about it.

  • I loved last night’s Raw! Best Raw since last year’s raw (that followed WM28) I wish fans would be like this every single week! Wwe likes to dictate what the fans should like and dislike but no one can tell a NY/NJ crowd what to like! Proud moment right now for being from NJ! Fans represented in a big way! But let me get this straight, instead of turning Cena heel, they turned Ryback? It’s safe to say Ryback has had more character progression in the last 8 months than Cena has had in the last 8 years!

  • Loren Goldstein

My kids were messing with my TV last night and I missed the first half-hour and the Ryback stuff. I’ll agree with everyone else and say that the energy in that arena was just amazing. Screw getting tickets to WM30, I’m looking forward to the RAW afterwards.

If Swagger is done, as I hope he should be as he has never impressed me, what will they do with Coulter? I agree that he is great on the mic but he will need a wrestler to pair with. Any ideas?

    • Wu’teh

He might be a good fit with the shield depending on where they take them down the line, though I’d imagine he’d have to tone down/drop the “we the people” stuff.

      • Loren Goldstein

At least their vests would match 🙂

    • Xavier

I’d love to see Zeb Colter paired with Lesnar. I always felt that Lesnar would of been 50x more believable in that role against Del Rio then Swagger. Imagine if Colter would of been around for that Guerrero/Lesnar feud in early 2004

      • Loren Goldstein

Although I think that would be a great pairing, how would you push Heyman out?

        • Xavier

Kind of how they removed Vickie from Ziggler I suppose, youcould do it without making it a big falling out.

        • Only if Cm Punk and Lesnar had a feud. But both should be heels. They are at their best when they are heels.

      • The Breaker

Coulter with Cesaro would be perfect, IMO.

        • That doesn’t make sense since Cesaro is a foreigner. He has to be paired with a true hot blooded American. I say take Kassius Ohno aka Chris Hero and pair him with Coulter, instant classic!

          • The Breaker

He’s the US Champ. They could work around it. Calling himself a “Real Anerican” while being a foreigner would get him a lot of heat!

          • Jay Raphael

I’m sorry dude but that illogical thinking. Am I talking to Vince Russo by any chance? Cesaro is Swiss and he hasn’t been shy about it. During his stint of carrying the American flag around, he would say he loves America but hates Americans. coulter’s character straight out hates immigrants. So you see how your idea makes no sense? Sorry I don’t mean to be a dick, just my opinion.

          • Nox Stephonos

He doesn’t have to stay with the whole “I hate Mexicans” routine.

          • Matt

Eugh! Stop bloody double naming Hero! Everyone does it! WE ALL REMEMBER HIS INDIE DAYS NOT JUST YOU!

      • Chalon

I don’t think Lesnar needs another mouthpiece, he already has a great one.

        • Xavier

I would remove Heyman from the picture.

    • Smart Mark

      Antonio Cesaro

  • coolkdd1

I hope this is a step up 4 the miz. Maybe him and barrett switch back and forward for the ic title and have a y2j/benoit feuud for the title and culminate in a ladder match 4 extreme rules. Plus I thought del rio and swagger was going to have a submission match at ER.

    • Fandango is getting over quicker than I thought.

Since WWE views the US title as worthless, I believe Miz will win back the IC title next month from Barrett, and eventually drop it to Fandango during the summer.

  • JYD

Any chance Miz was injured during Wrestlemania and that is why the put the belt back on Barrett? Also, I would rather see the title change hands like it did than keep watching the U.S. and IC champs lose non-tile matches every week or two.

    • US tittle should be change…

  • Tim

The crowd at WrestleMania was much louder in person than it came across of tv. The crowd was dead for the HHH vs. Brock Lesnar match, but what would you expect after the Taker vs. CM Punk match? Everyone complains about crowds for outdoor WrestleMania’s and wants them to go back to smaller indoor arenas. Does anyone actually think WWE would give up all of that extra revenue just to have louder crowd reactions?

    • Chalon

True that, they wouldn’t, and that’s unfortunate. They only make decisions that would benefit the product IF it will also increase revenue. I wish the quality of the product was first and the business aspect second, and in the AE where ratings was the most important thing, and that’s why they would go all out and spend more money on the segments etc. on a constant basis.

  • Thomas

Last nights raw was awesome. I can’t stop laughing at the Fandango theme, the crowd was really awesome. Ziggler coming to cash in the crowd went wild. One of my favorite raw in a long time. The raw after a wrestlemania is usually good but the crowd made that night just plain awesome!

  • Dustyn

I give to you, Barney Gumble – Fandango theme song:

    • Matt

Dude it’s frightening me how much you’re posting this…

  • TheBigKing1

Im guessing they had Miz win so he can extend his Wrestlemania winning streak to 5-0

    • That’s what I was thinking, but if you count preshows into his WM streak which I do anyway he’s not undefeated.

  • You thought the crowd made Raw awesome last night, I thought they ruined the show. Normally I have no problem watching Raw but last night I almost shut the show off because of how horrible the crowd was.

    • last raw crowd sux…… :@

    • Matt

You’re clearly not familiar with fans? When you got to an event (if you’ve ever been) do you pay your money to sit in silence? You can do that at home. Just get over it. The crowd was hot, loud, excited and mostly HAVING FUN! You can’t just call them horrible because poor John Cena got booed, called boring and the “same old shit”.

      • I have no problem with crowd being hot but I do have a problem with the crowd chanting random crap during perfectly good matches, that’s why I almost quit watching. Also this booing the faces and cheering the heels thing has got to stop, the smart fans have slowing been ruining wrestling over the past 15 years by doing that.

  • Maybe wwe realized that wade Barrett is 10 times better than the miz and fixed their mistake

  • @Funkatastic The Mike McCarthy

Swagger’s facing charges for a DUI not a DWI. Just thought I’d point it out.
