Why Chris Hero Won’t Sign With TNA, WWE Worry Over Ratings?, Disastrous Wrestlemania Lineup, Saving WWE Title Match

Will Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno) return to WWE in the future?

When Chris Hero was released from his WWE developmental contract he hoped to be back in a situation similar to Claudio Castagnoli, who of course is now known as Cesaro. It’s not uncommon for this to happen as even Daniel Bryan endured a release, although for a very different reason. This is also one of the reasons why Hero has not gone to TNA despite their interest. He knows if he signs with TNA it will damage his chances of returning to WWE at some point. I’ve been told Hero hopes to be back as soon as this year, however, we’re told there isn’t interest in his services at this time.

Do you think WWE even worries about television ratings?

WWE certainly cares about how many people are watching their programming, however, the two-fold interest on TV viewership and pay-per-view buys is no longer the business model in WWE. Back in the 90s and throughout the Monday night wars, it was literally a war between the WWF and WCW as to who was getting the highest rating and most pay-per-views buys. Since WWE won the war, WWE has transformed into a much bigger entity. They’re now a publicly traded company that has expanded globally. The launch of the WWE Network gives them their own TV clearance even though they consistently have some of the most-watched programs on cable. That’s not to say pay-per-view isn’t important as it made up  17% of their net revenue in 2012 so the launch of the WWE Network is not without risk, however, their hope is the network will become profitable and help them moving forward to stay ahead of any possible competition.

Now that there is a Wrestlemania undercard (which, wasn’t the case last week), what are your thoughts on it?

Disaster is a good word to describe the Wrestlemania 30 undercard. They’ve added Los Matadores and The Real Americans to the WWE Tag Team Championship bout with The Usos and Rybaxel but what about the most legitimate tag team they have in the Rhodes brothers? Even then, the way Los Matadores and Rybaxel have been booked leaves their inclusion in a Wrestlemania title match a head scratcher. The Vickie Guerrero Divas Championship Invitational gets all the Divas on the card but gives no payoff to help a single Diva moving forward. The 6-man tag match with The Shield is fine, I guess, but haven’t they teased dissension for months? The 30-man Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is a last minute attempt to get guys on the card but they’re still taking talent in and out of the match. It appears to be a train wreck waiting to happen that is likely to be constricted by time constraints. So unlike a week ago, there is an undercard for Wrestlemania but it’s not without issues.

Do you think the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match has the potential to be booed out of the building like Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg was a decade ago?

I’ve stated numerous times the only way WWE can save the title match at Wrestlemania 30 is to insert Daniel Bryan. I stand by that 100% and if they do not do that, it will be a disaster. Given the issues I just mentioned, the risk that is Undertaker vs. Lesnar, WWE is putting a lot of pressure on Bryan, Triple H, John Cena and Bray Wyatt to save this show. I’m not discarding Undertaker either, I just think it’s not going to be easy for him to have a good bout with Lesnar given Lesnar’s physical style and the miles on Undertaker’s body. Undertaker has proved me wrong before but it’s not without a big risk.

From the Ask WNW vault…

October 2011: How do wrestlers know how long they have to wrestle? If a wrestler has 15 minutes to wrestle how does he or she know exactly what time it is to end their match? - Performers in WWE and TNA Impact Wrestling are given an approximate amount of time for their match and they are to stay within those time constraints. As for “how they know,” the referees wear wires where producers can communicate with them and they can relay that information to the wrestlers.

  • Bad News Barrett

well im afraid ive got some BAD NEWS !! that pasty white , twig armed ,flabby bellied , skinny fat nobody -chris hero will NOT be returning to wwe NXT anytime soon ! he will stay floundering in the indies where a man of that stature belongs ! and also at wrestlemania XXX daniel bryan WILL NOT beat my good friend triple H and WILL NOT be in the triple threat main event . so you fans who paid your hard earned money will be forced to see a mania main event matchup between orton, batista and H . which i know you will all LOVE hahahahaha thank you and good day to you all !

    • Bob’s Diner

Just letting you know, this gimmick would work much better if you used correct spelling and grammar. There is no way Wade Barrett would post like a 12-year old. Eva Marie? Yes, I’d believe that. But not Barrett

      • Xavier

The Vince McMahon disqus is funny but the Triple H, Eve Marie, IWC and this Barrett one are not.

        • Bob’s Diner

          Agreed

  • King A sshole

I think that, eventually, all content will be put exclusively on the Network, and that goes for Raw and Smackdown too, the digital age is here, and things like dvds, blu-rays or any other kind of home media platform will be obsolete in the near future. Why pay $240 to watch all eight movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when you can watch them for ten dollars a month, plus hundreds of other movies, on Netflix? Cable and satellite television are dying, and they know it, several of my family members, friends, coworkers and neighbors have gone digital, and depending on how the Wrestlemania stream goes, I’m next. My and my sister hardly watch regular television anymore, other than for Raw, Smackdown and my favorite show, Vikings.

    • Bob’s Diner

I agree – what they are doing with the network is very much a sign of things to come. Look at what Time Warner are doing now as well.

The only issue is how much WWE get paid for television rights. With what they are seeking right now, if there were to move Raw to the network I couldn’t see them getting enough subscribers to even come close to that figure

  • Eddie Edwards

If it wasn’t for the network I wouldn’t be ordering WM

  • David F.

I feel bad for Shield have to deal with old broken down washed up has beens and that AJ doesnt have an actual match. Thank god Game of Thrones season 4 starting same night if Wrestlemania blows I have that to console me lol

  • Chris B

WWE have spent so much time and effort on their main events, found themselves in limbo when they came under threat (punk leaving and waiting to try and get him back/Batista coming back but not being the draw they thought he would be) that the rest of the show has suffered terribly. The intercontinetal and US championships are not defended, the tag belts have teams competing for them that simply aren’t up the card enough yet to warrent a match at mania (sorry Los Matadores and Rybaxel), the shield, returning a year on from facing Big Show, Sheamus & Randy Orton in the opening bout of mania 29 now have a match slapped together against Kane and the outlaws with nothing on the line and no gain from it. AJ’s red hot start as diva champ, her war with the total diva’s, all squandered to slap a match together at mania and not even a super heel live Vickie will be able to save it with so little time to build.

As for the battle royal, other than bragging rights, what does the winner actually get, put a title shot on the line for god sake, have the winner have a guaranteed match for the wwe title at a ppv, Summer slam for instance, time to build them up and get them into the title picture.

    • Bob’s Diner

They get a cool statue to carry around. And maybe hit someone with it

  • Xavier

I agree with you Richard about the undercard being a train wreck. It’s really unfortunate considering how talented the roster is (probably the most talented the WWE has ever been). I really wish Vince/HHH would of booked The Usos vs The Real Americans vs The Brotherhood vs Reigns/Rollins in a ladder match instead of the fatal four way they are doing now. Imagine of Mania opened with that match followed by Bryan going over Triple H. That’s how you kick off the 30th edition of Mania right there. Big E vs Ambrose too merge the IC/US titles would of been a great option for Mania as well.

    • Brandon van Reenen

I agree. Would have been a seriously badass ladder match. I hate how the undercard just seems thrown together.

    • Cubed56

I think the undercard is actually ok. I do agree though, Los Matadores should be replaced by the Rhodes but leave Rybaxel. The Shield in there match is ok as it’s setting up one of two things. Either Rollins and Ambrose will turn on Reigns, or they will win and become the anti-authority faction ala DX. Personally I’m hoping for the later as I feel The Sheild has a lot to offer as a faction yet, also with the plan for Reigns to be pushed I feel he’s not even close to ready to be on his own. The battle royal will be alright, hopefully they let the winner get a push afterwards, so hopefully Ziggler or Cody Rhodes wins. The divas match is what it is. IMO the main events are gonna more then carry the PPV, especially the Cena/Wyatt match.

      • Bob’s Diner

Why leave Rybaxel instead of Los Matadores? At least they have talent and could probably do some silly spots. What’s Ryback going to do? Have another WrestleMania moment of having a big guy fall on him again?

        • Cubed56

          Lol, thats a good point.

          • Bob’s Diner

You’ve got me thinking that should be The Big Guy’s WrestleMania gimmick every year – lift someone big, have them fall on him and win. Would be entertaining. He could be the opposite of The Undertaker with a losing streak… now to find 20 400-pound men…

          • Cubed56

            Lol, that would be awesome.

    • Bob’s Diner

Don’t you get the feeling they’ve just thrown together all these multi-man matches to get the whole roster on the card? It is honestly reminding me of WrestleMania 2000 – and we all know how great that show was (you especially)

      • Venom

This is why I sometimes feel wrestlemania is just another RAW with no commercials. And a friend of mine wanted us to travel to new orleans and attend the show which still would have been fun cause of the spectacle, I didn’t think it was worth it. I rather attend the next night on RAW show which seems like a fun show. They should consider making smackdown Tuesday live that week only.

        • Bob’s Diner

Last year’s WrestleMania was certainly more boring and predictable than Raw. However, at least it had less stupid skits and the build was a million times better than this year’s event. I like that idea for Smackdown – would really make it worthwhile for people traveling

          • Cubed56

the build for last years WM was better? Really? I though it was just as bad if not worse then this one.

          • Bob’s Diner

Again, not saying it was great, but at least it was solid compared to this year. Was much more planned out. This they planned things the fans didn’t want, tried to tell the fans they really did want it, then kind of caved and tried to make it up to the fans. Then filled the undercard with a bunch of matches that make no sense and contain every wrestler that has nothing to do

          • Cubed56

Thats fair, i see where your coming from, and can understand why you and others feel like that.

          • Mario

But once more , like previously mentioned , this is what happens when you need to write or create so many scenarios for all the programs ( shows) they now have to face . Along with that dreadful and stressful deadline attached to them all and in order to please every party .

          • Jbreed

The Chris Jericho/Fandango match from last year had a better build than most of this years matches.

          • Cubed56

That build was a joke, that just my opinion though.

          • Jbreed

It’s exactly my point. But the thing is they actually put some time and effort into it.

          • Xavier

Agreed. While I’m not a fan of the undercard this year in still looking forward too this year’s Mania more so then last year’s. the main matches have been built up really well and I’m liking forward too all of them.

I find it interesting that people are saying that they aren’t interesting in anything about Mania this year especially with Bryan (the guy those same people have been clamoring for) is more then likely gonna be in 2 matches and have a chance too go over HHH, Batista and Orton all on the same day. If that’s not enough to make the YESmovement happy then can we really blame Vince/HHH for not taking that whole movement serious anymore?

          • Bob’s Diner

My issue is purely with how it has been booked the last month; the title took a back seat to HHH/Bryan while they tried to get the crowd into the idea of that match. I think they’ve finally succeeded with that, but it has meant the title match is an afterthought and the entire undercard has just been thrown together with as many people possible to try and make them seem important. Seriously, Rybaxel getting a title shot? The Outlaws facing The Shield? Every diva in the world having a match dedicated to the most annoying woman to never wrestle in WWE? And all announced about 13 days away from WrestleMania? That is some good planning and buildup, right there.

          • Cubed56

Exactly. It boggles my mind how when people cry for something and then get it, they keep crying about its still not good enough.

          • Bob’s Diner

Come on, guys, you should know better – unless Daniel Bryan is in EVERY match at WrestleMania we should be rioting!!!

          • Venom

We’re not saying we arnt interested in anything about Mania. We’re talking about the undercard matches. Cody and goldust have worked hard this whole year yet they’re thrown in this battle royal match yet the usos are defending against Los Matadors and Rybaxel??? How does that make sense?

It’s WM yet once again the US and IC titles arnt defended. I know they have a PPV called Night of Champions but it should also be the same rules at mania. Even have the NXT championship defended on a pre-show.

  • https://twitter.com/DannyIWR Danny Murphy

I would have gone with The Usos vs. The Rhodes’ Brothers vs. The New Age Outlaws vs. Luke Harper & Erik Rowan, AJ Lee vs. Tamina Snuka or Natalya or Naomi, Cesaro vs. Jack Swagger and Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

  • Padres4life

i think the fact that the Network is only 9.99 per month and that Wrestlemania 30 is being offered on it, I think just because of that, they’ll get a big increase in network purchases within a week’s time….this might end up being the most profitable WM of all time because people will still order it for PPV and tons will get the Network because of it as well.

    • Cubed56

I agree, but then everyone is going to be complaining when the stream craps out during the show.

      • Xavier

        LMAO

  • John

Cody Rhodes & Goldust have been working at such a high level for the past 6 months that they deserve a much better spot on the WrestleMania card than being thrown into a stupid Battle Royal where they will be thrown out & nobody will notice.

Considering this is the 30 year anniversary of WrestleMania, the card is absolutely awful. Even the big matches are horrible! Clearly the whole show is being build around Daniel Bryan winning the title.

    • Jbreed

How does the brotherhood go from the number 1 tag team to being so irrelevant in such a short time? And you’re right. Daniel Bryan being in the main event is what we all wanted but it’s screwing everything else up.

      • Bob’s Diner

This is what happens when you pre-plan your booking with people in the main event. It backfired VERY badly and has resulted in WWE constantly changing their minds about what to do – causing WrestleMania to be a mess

        • Cubed56

I agree to an extent, booking in advance has been done for years. The problem is they pre-plan WM so far in advance with no real backup plans, so when unforeseen things happen they are forced to throw some things together without an extended build to it.

          • Bob’s Diner

Oh totally – I absolutely get what you are saying and probably was trying to say what you said, only you said it better. Also, who on Earth looked at the crowd reactions back at SummerSlam and thought “Well, we’ve had fun with this Daniel Bryan thing but it has run its course. You know what will really get this crowd pumped at WrestleMania? BATISTA!!!”?

          • Cubed56

O for sure, if they could go back and change it, they probably wouldve had Batista be a heel to begin with.

        • Jbreed

The worst part is, thanks to the mess Triple H all of a sudden ends up once again with one of the biggest roles at WM.

          • Xavier

I have no problem with it. Bryan/HHH makes so much sense on so many levels.

          • Jbreed

I actually agree but what I meant was it’s funny how the mess Triple H created, or was partly responsible for creating, has actually all worked in his favor.

        • Xavier

Pre planning isn’t always a bad thing though. The whole Hogan/Savage angle was mapped out a year and a half in advance, that may easily be the best most well constructed feud in the history of the WWE. The match itself was good as well. WM21 was another card that creative had planned out 6 months in advance depending on the feud. WM22 & WN23 were also mapped out pretty well in advance with some changes being made given some circumstances (Batista injury, Eddie’s death and Triple H’s injury). All 3 of those Mania’s were pretty good IHMO.

          • Bob’s Diner

Agreed. I wasn’t totally clear in my response… as I say, I just don’t know how anyone could have looked at the crowd reactions at SummerSlam and thought Batista was the future of WWE! That would be like going back to SummerSlam 1997 and going ‘Yeah this Austin guy is done. Let’s bring back Koko B Ware and have him win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania – no way Austin will ever be as popular as him!’

          • Xavier

Lol I agree about Vince not taking the hint at the crowd reactions. But I wouldn’t compare Batista to Koko B Ware though. Koko was never anything more then a lower midcard guy, Batista was a main even tee who was over in 04/05 similar too how Bryan is over now here in 13/14.

          • Bob’s Diner

Yeah I was being a bit of a clown, but I know you get my point. I would never deny Batista was over and probably could have been a big return IF Daniel Bryan hadn’t become so darn popular

          • Stephen Cash

Batista was never over as much as DB is now….

          • Xavier

Pssshhh, you must have a very short memory. Batista was bat**** over in 04/05.

      • Guest

Personally i don’t have any opinion either way about the Rhodes Brothers, but please explain the logic as to why ‘Rybaxel’ (2 Jobbers) are in a tag team championship match while Cody & Goldust are thrown into a midcard Battle Royal? The fact that you would be surprised if Daniel Bryan wins the title at WrestleMania makes me totally understand why you actually think that it’s a good card. The fact that i called the big matches horrible might be a bit over the top, but i certainly wouldn’t call them great matches, especially not for a WrestleMania card! Bryan is going to beat Triple H, then become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Bray Wyatt is going to beat John Cena. Undertaker is going to beat Brock Lesnar… I’m sorry, but when the biggest show of the year is more predictable than the majority of ‘B’ level shows then you have a problem.

    • Cubed56

Now are you saying that cause you truly believe it, or are you saying that cause your one of those fans, who if they don’t get what they want goes and pisses and moans about it like a 4 year old that doesn’t get their way. Honestly I’m getting sick of everyone crapping all over this card when it hasn’t even taken place yet. Sure it may not look like a great card on paper, but I’m gonna go on the record and say this WM will deliver and people will be talking about how good it was the day after. If you break down the card, there are opportunities for WM moments all over it.

      • John

Well i’m not one of those fans actually. In fact, i don’t have any opinions on what the WrestleMania card should’ve looked like. It’s not my job to book WrestleMania, but as a fan i’m entitled to express my opinion on a show that WWE are asking me to pay to watch, and in my opinion WrestleMania XXX is the worst WrestleMania card in years!

Also WrestleMania is a Pay-Per-View event, which means what the card looks like on paper is kind of a big deal, so it’s a silly argument to suggest that fans shouldn’t crap over the card until it happens.

        • Cubed56

Alright while I can respect your opinion, you’ve given no reasons as to why you think the card sucks. The only things I can gather from your two posts is you are a Rhodes Brothers fan and since they aren’t in the title match your whining. The big matches are horrible? Why? Sounds like you just didn’t get the matchups youd like to see, again whining. The whole show is built around DB winning the title? Your actually partially correct about that, it does seem that way, but honestly id be surprised if he walks out champ. Either way, you sound like you don’t like DB or your just plain unhappy about the build focusing alot around him, again whining cause its not what you want to see. Secondly, it’s obvious you have an opinion on what the WM card should’ve looked like or you wouldn’t be crapping all over it, instead youd be talking about the potential in it.

          • John

Personally i don’t have any opinion either way about the Rhodes Brothers, but please explain the logic as to why ‘Rybaxel’ (2 Jobbers) are in a tag team championship match while Cody & Goldust are thrown into a midcard Battle Royal? • Cubed56

You want some cheese with that whine?

          • John

I think that pretty much proves my point.

  • Nate Mayhew

It’s pretty clear that Rybaxel is in as to not have to admit that two of the biggest pushes in the past year or so weren’t complete flops, and Los Mats are in as a show of good will to Carlos Colon. It is the same reason I expect Carlito to be a surprise entrant in the Andre battle royal.

  • Mysterion

I apologise for doing this sh** but Richard, can you clarify the actual reason Bryan was released?

    • Stephen Cash

He was released for chocking Justin Roberts with his tie. Not PG

      • Mike McCarthy

Stephen is correct ^^. It was on the night The Nexus debuted.

  • Mike McCarthy

I don’t like that Richard keeps calling the Andre the Giant Battle Royale a “last minute attempt to get guys on the card” even though it was one of the first matches announced and they’re actually giving a lot of guys in the match TV time to develop a storyline for the match. I understand that the storyline isn’t outstanding but it’s about as good of a build to a 30-man match that isn’t the Royal Rumble that you can get. This isn’t a last minute attempt to get more guys on the card, what Richard is actually thinking of is the Fatal-4-Way Tag Title match which has four more guys than needed and features four men that haven’t done anything special to earn a title match on the biggest match of the year. I can’t argue with thinking that the Divas Championship match and Tag Title match are a disaster, but the 30-man battle royale has been booked better than Orton & Batista.

    • Bob’s Diner

I agree. It is also a nice nod to the past as well, since Battle Royals have happened at numerous WrestleManias as well

  • Jay El Bee

I’m not saying they deserve the WM spot over Goldust & Rhodes but aren’t Los Matadores undefeated or at least close to being undefeated, not that that’s much of an accomplishment since 90% of their matches have been against 3MB.

  • monty

HHH vs DB open the show to give proper rest to whoever wins and advances(i hope its DB but HHH has a history of doing stupid crap like he did to Booker T)

30 man battle royal gets a shot at IC Title

Title unification Big E vs DA–US title vs IC

    Divas fatal 4 way

    shield vs kane and outlaws

    Cena vs Wyat
    Taker vs Lesnar

fatal 4 way for WWE title, yes i do see DB vs HHH as a draw

I hope the authority is screwing over DB towards the end and Punk’s music hits and crowd goes wild and he helps DB win the title. This way we can have 2 huge WM moments

next night Takers comes out on Raw and once he gets to the ring lights go out STING IS HERE. One year of build up towards WM31

    • Bob’s Diner

I don’t know how to break it to you… but they’ve already decided half of those matches aren’t happening. The show is now a week and a half away. They aren’t changing anything else. And don’t get your hopes up for Daniel Bryan leaving as champ

    • Mysterion

Can you quickly clarify why you want Punk back? He clearly doesn’t care about all you fanboys clamouring for his white knight on a horse return, does he? You chant his name and he just ignores you all. Get over him.

      • JJ

It’s a business, most of us fans understand this and respect his decision. If vince finally folded, which is more likely then not, then CM Punk could return. It’s no rush really; programming has definitely taken a hit, but a lot of superstars get burned out after a while, and last I checked he hasn’t had much time off.

  • JJ

This could easily go down as one of the worst wrestlemanias ever if they don’t make drastic changes or moves.

    • Jay El Bee

I agree, watching Bryan throw thousands of kicks for what could end up being a fourth of the show doesn’t make me interested in this years WM at all.

  • Eva Marie

Chris Hero? Is he friends with Batman?
